Exceptional anniversary getaway! Hotel is a historic gem with Spanish colonial architecture and baroque style furnishings. My husband and I stayed in a phenomenal suite with balcony that overlooked the beautiful ocean and mountains. King sized bed uber soft and luxurious, soaking tub…Walking distance from so many quaint restaurants & shops…Most importantly, all staff from valet to front desk went out of their way to ensure our comfort and made us feel truly welcome. We normally stay at the Bacara and were looking for a change of pace to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are absolutely delighted we chose the canary and will def return!! Thank you, Kimpton Canary staff, for a wonderful memory! Read less

When you are paying $1,000 per night for a mini suite, you at least expect a decent size room. NOT HERE. The French doors leading to the bedroom can’t be closed because the four poster bed takes up 90% of the tiny room. Furthermore, while the seating are and bathrooms are air conditioned, there are no air vents in the bedroom so you can’t sleep… Read more

We were in Santa Barbara for a week, for our daughter’s wedding. After reading the reviews of all the hotels offered in the area, we chose the Kimpton canary. Our week long stay was absolutely wonderful. Tyler assisted with our check in, and I was very impressed that he remembered speaking to me on the phone prior to arriving. Madison was our go to girl. She was there for us for anything we wanted or needed. She actually went out of her way on several occasions. And Edwin. God bless his patience and sense of humor when a dear friend of mine wanted to send a bottle of champagne to our room. The valet guys were super! We actually have never been to a hotel before this trip, where ALL of the staff constantly greeted us with smiles and made us feel so warm and welcome to be at their hotel. Even our wonderful room service server made us feel like welcomed family. Our room with a balcony was wonderful! We enjoyed the pool area, and the upper deck. Dinner in the restaurant was great, and Madison hooked us up with some other dinner recommendations that were fabulous! The only negative thing we have to say, is we wish nicer hotels would get rid of their rain shower heads. But, when we explained that we needed more water pressure, The maintenance gentleman that came to check it out, was completely understanding and he did tweak it to make it better. Thank you to all of you at Kimpton Canary for making us so happy during our stay! Read less

Very disappointed in this hotel. We paid over $650/night for this hotel with very poor service that we encountered at almost every contact point. Very disappointed in this hotel. We paid over $650/night for this hotel with very poor service that we encountered at almost every contact point. No room service for making up the room, asked for towels that did not arrive, went to restaurant for a cocktail only the bartender working and he didn't provide service for over 7-minutes and then without a drink menu, phone not working in room, no bathroom amenities, desk staff indifferent. However, the location is excellent, the bedding was nice, and view from the room was gorgeous, but not worth the price. I will go back to the Hotel Milo, another SB hotel which offers far better value. Read less

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and absolutely loved it, so I was very excited to return this past Mother’s Day Weekend. I am sorry to say that the service has declined and our experience was not really what I was expecting. Our service experience was very inconsistent. Tyler and Edwin at the front desk, and Austin at the valet were absolutely wonderful. Extremely friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in ensuring that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. On the other hand, we found Chandra at the front desk to be extremely unhelpful, and Eric, the night manager, to be surly, rude, and similarly unhelpful. Though there were minor issues to start - before our arrival I asked Chandra for an extra refrigerator in the room for our infant and when we arrived there was no notation about it in our reservation and no refrigerator in our room - the real issue began a day into our stay. We called down to the front desk to request that our room be serviced, and Chandra informed me that due to “several call outs” no service was available. Chandra repeatedly told me she could have sheets and towels sent to my room, but that was the absolute most she could do. When paying $550 a night, I do not think it reasonable to be told there would be no service and I would need to change my own sheets. Edwin, the manager, graciously offered to refund one night’s stay and to have our room cleaned, which we did not expect but really appreciated. We also found the service at Finch and Fork, the restaurant, though friendly, to be quite slow. For instance, I was told my Diet Coke (a can and cup of ice) would “take a while.” In fairness, I believe the restaurant must have recently opened to increased capacity and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. Overall, the property is gorgeous, the location is great, and some of the people working at the hotel are fantastic. However, we were disappointed that our stay was somewhat marred by such an odd issue (I have never stayed at a hotel that was unable to clean my room before), Chandra’s general unhelpful nature, and Eric’s rudeness when asked basic questions regarding check out and our reservation at the property’s restaurant. We will stay at the hotel again, but are a bit wary now! Read less
