We used our free IHG anniversary night to stay at this lovely property. Seamless valet ($20 if you have a hybrid), warm and friendly check in by Madison, who gave us an option of a couple different rooms, beautiful room on the fifth floor with a Juliet balcony facing the street (#511), pretty rooftop pool area and large separate terrace. Co-vid protocols followed, with all staff wearing masks, limits on the number of people on rooftop, and hand sanitizer available at numerous stations throughout the hotel. The hotel is a block from the shops and restaurants on State Street. Eric and Edwin at the front desk responded quickly to any requests. Really nice staff all the way around. Only issues were noise transference from adjoining room (we felt like we could have participated in the next door guest’s speaker phone conversation), the mattress or topper probably was ready for replacement in our room (a bit saggy), and bath towels could be plusher. Also it would be nice if you could buy something other than a ($9!) bag of chips with the $10 welcome gift provided to IHG reward members (i.e., typically overpriced hotel snacks). Next time I’ll opt for points. Complaints aside, we loved the hotel and had a wonderful time. Read less

Start with the positives: the staff were lovely and helpful and they were doing what they could during a pandemic to make our stay more enjoyable (like making reservations for the hot tub). That said, for the amount I paid, the location was terrible (located right on a busy street corner). There was street noise (cars, people screaming) all night long. Hardy the peaceful beach vacation I was hoping for. Also, the décor was severely lacking (both literally and figuratively). There was one random chair by the window) and looked dated and disjointed (Spanish tile in the bathroom with attempts more modern aesthetic in the main room). I would not stay here again. Read less

We spent one of our afternoons at the rooftop pool, while we were up there there was a wedding on the lower part of rooftop. It felt like we were crashing their wedding. so uncomfortable!! I’m half convinced I’ll be in the background of one of their wedding photos. But what really bothered us was NONE of them were wearing masks. They were all crowded right around the only staircase down and we would have had to walk through them to get to the elevator in order to leave or use the restrooms. We didn’t know how to get out without a minor confrontation, something we shouldn’t have to consider in the first place, so we waited for an opening to get through when it felt safe. May not sound like a big deal, but it took longer than you’d think and we had a dinner reservation to get ready for. Aren’t they supposed to wear masks if they’re standing up? Everywhere else in town we went was very clear about this. And everyone was encouraged by staff to wear masks around the hotel, as you would expect. Why not these people? We ended up feeling bad for resenting a group of strangers who were trying to have fun at a wedding, but it was far from what we pictured for a peaceful afternoon at the pool. We know this is a strange and difficult time for everyone, but this felt really unacceptable. Read less

I have stayed at virtually all the properties in Santa Barbara that are considered high end and based on the price this has been on the list. Total and complete waste of money. The hotel presents well when you walk in and the Restaurant is OK. Not great. Just ok. The only saving grace of this hotel is the staff who are all gracious and kind but thats pretty much every place in Santa Barbara. This is one of the most offensively over priced hotel I have ever stayed at. It is in desperate need of a full interior renovation. The place is dated. Rooms are small and minimalist. Bathrooms are of motel quality as are the beds and linens. I was embarrassed to put someone here. At 250 a night...maybe. I moved to the Holiday Inn Express with similar location and got bigger room. Better bed. More functional AC. Half the price. If you want to spend 5 or 600 a night have at it. Not here. Bacarat is worth that. Thats about it. Read less
