The staff here is so friendly - I was so impressed with the gal at the front desk. The rooms was small but clean and cute with a comfy bed. I literally only slept in the room because you have to explore the area. The rooftop pool view is beautiful. The restaurant has a great burger (go without the bun) and drinks.

I just adore this hotel! Like all Kimpton properties it is a one of a kind. You're' definitely not in a W, Hilton, Inter Continental or Marriott.... The place is charming with friendly helpful staff. I just adore this hotel! Like all Kimpton properties it is a one of a kind. You're' definitely not in a W, Hilton, Inter Continental or Marriott.... The place is charming with friendly helpful staff. We stayed in a junior suite which was just lovely - wonderful furnishings with a Moroccan/Spanish feel and a heavenly canopied bed. A sitting area with a desk separates the bedroom from the well-sized bathroom. A usable bath tub and very spacious bathroom is a delight. A separate water closet with a door is a welcome feature! The Hotel restaurant the Finch & Fork is a winner and an absolute must for dinner or weekend brunch. The hotel offers a complimentary wine tasting with appetizers each evening and each morning from 5:00AM to 10:00AM there is complimentary tea, coffee and cookies (although something car free would be helpful!) The sixth floor rooftop pool area offers a panoramic view of Santa Barbara and the gorgeous mountains. The location is superb - a wonderful 20 minute walk down State Street to the ocean. The hotel is not cheap but well priced for all it offers. The only dissonance of the stay has been the condition of the Jacuzzi and pool area. The hot tub had pieces of orange floating in it and scum on the foam in the water and there were fruit peels around the pool. When we asked if the Jacuzzi could be cleaned so we could enjoy it nothing happened and then we called the front desk and again nothing happened. We retreated to our room and soaked in the tub. not up to par for the rest of our Canary experience and hopefully an unusual exception. Read less

Wife and I stayed at The Canary for a long weekend. This is really the only decent hotel in the downtown State Street (north of the 101). The location is great if that is what you’re looking for. Easy to walk to shops, restaurants, bars, etc. Would be a great place to stay during fiesta. The hotel has bikes for guests to use if which is also nice (a lot of Santa Barbara hotels do). The hotel itself is nice overall. The rooms are nice but nothing special. Our first was small but it had a nice balcony. We moved after a day into a suite that was a little larger but still on the small side for a suite. This was totally expected given that the hotel is in the middle of downtown. The rooftop pool had a good scene. The pool is small (again- expected given the location). Overall, this property is probably the best place to stay in downtown Santa Barbara if you want to be on central State Street. Read less

We chose this hotel due to its proximity to restaurants & theaters, as last time in Santa Barbara we stayed at the Belmond El Encanto which was lovely, but definitely off the beaten path. We chose this hotel due to its proximity to restaurants & theaters, as last time in Santa Barbara we stayed at the Belmond El Encanto which was lovely, but definitely off the beaten path. Our 1st room was a bit noisy & we were graciously re-accommodated into a spacious suite for the remainder of our stay, a nice touch. We were so busy that I neglected to take many pics, but the hotel is elegantly appointed in a classic manner, not chic & modern like some Kimptons. We dined at Finch & Fork several times, which we discovered during our last visit to Santa Barbara. Amazing food & service! I recommend visiting both for the regular menu as well as the bar menu ... everything is delicious. Read less

Great location. Hotel atmosphere is nice. Staff is amazing . A bit overpriced for the room quality. Upstairs deck and pool area is nice. Walking distance to everything with the beach about 20mins away by foot.
