Despite in the middle of the Covid era, we had a wonderful stay. It was obvious that the staff was well aware the importance that hygiene plays in the spread of Covid. All staff were masked, frequent sanitation of surfaces were seen, and guests were politely reminded of mask requirements. When we checked in we had our own PPE kit along with our individually wrapped coffee amenities and smores kit. Our suite had a great view of the beach but the highlight was the throwback record player with vintage records to play. With all these extra precautions in place, we were still able to enjoy a relaxing weekend. We enjoyed outdoor dining and cocktails at the Fig while the crash of the ocean played in the background. The complimentary bike rental allowed us to tour the empty beaches from Santa Monica to Venice. Even with the beach closures that weekend, we had a wonderful stay and will definitely be coming back. Happiness for me is exploring and traveling. Passport is on hold for 2020, but the bright side is finding local historical treasures. Originally this hotel site was the mansion for the founder of Santa Monica. It is now transformed into a gorgeous boutique tranquil retreat. How soothing is the sea. Impressed with the attention to safety and wellness during the pandemic, with automated temperature checks upon arrival and rooms allowed at least 48 hrs before the next guest. Lots of open air spaces to allow for fresh air circulation and plants which are nature’s air purifiers. Relaxation that was much needed and appreciated. So much so that I have booked a return visit for the end of the month. Looking forward to it! Read less

As a couple who is going through postponing our wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic, we could not be more disappointed and frustrated by the customer service (or lake thereof) we have received from the Fairmont. It has now been over one month since we've began the discussions about postponing and we still do not have anything finalized. It takes a minimum of one week to hear back from our (new) contact at the Fairmont, who is very rude when she does finally reply. After selecting a new wedding date, we received a new contract with several changes that were not discussed or reviewed with us before being sent over. An industry standard is to red-line the new changes instead of making us search through a 10+ page contract for the changes that were made. Speaking with other couples who are postponing, it is clear other beautiful southern California venues are more than accommodating during this difficult time. Seeing the Fairmont take advantage of the pandemic AND treating their customers who will pay tens of thousands for an event is very sad. Absolutely do not recommend throwing any events here or working with their catering/events staff. Read less

They do a very nice job on the In-Room Dining and the bar in the lobby always has a great buzz to it. This is the perfect spot for a weekend in Santa Monica---you drop off your car at the valet and do not pick it up until you drive home---you can walk almost any place you want. Stayed here four nights following the cancellation of our cruise whilst we were in the air. The staff were all very welcoming and went the extra yard to ensure we had everything we needed. We had a premium sea view room which had a wonderful view out over the beach up to Malibu. The room was well laid out with a wall size mirror beside the doors to the balcony making the sea view look twice as big and room light and airy. The room was well presented, modern and clean. There was plenty storage space, large flat screen TV, mini-bar, coffee maker which also made decent tea - a novelty in the US! The bathroom was strange in having 2 small doors to open it, but also had a night light. The bathroom was quite small but had everything you might need. The hotel also has a very popular restaurant The Fig, named after the huge fig tree in the grounds. The Fig also offers very popular half price meals between 5-6.00, a coffee shop, a bar ( which also sells food), a spa, gym heated pool and hot tub. One of the advantages of the hotel is its location being within walking distance of the beach, Sant Monica Pier, 3rd Street Mall, many restaurants and the the hop on-hop off bus. Id be happy to go back here! Read less
