The Fairmont is all about service and location. Located right on ocean avenue, a 10 minute walk to the Pier and Shopping Centre. OK, the rooms may be a little tired (but a great view over the beach to the pier) and the elevators incredibly slow, but who cares when you enter a hotel where everyone is so friendly and helpful. No matter whether reception, bar, valet parking, smiles all round and only ever too happy to help. On arrival the room was not quite ready, so they took us to the sun terrace and gave us drinks and lunch on the house - whatever we wanted from the menu. I'll be staying here again next time I'm in town. Read less

Excellent experience all round, with great amenities, friendly staff and excellent service. Rooms facing south will hear the sound of the outdoor bar below, especially on weekends and the cost of valet parking ($50) was excessive as there are alternatives close by for half the price. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed here during our California road trip. Having stayed in a number of Fairmont hotels we were really looking forward to our stay but we were so disappointed. Our room was fine with good view towards Santa Monica pier. Be aware if you are facing south at some point you will suffer the noise from the disco/bar. Starting about 9pm it just goes on and on and on. The bass thud almost making the walls vibrate. Our agent had requested an extra fridge( I need to store injections) and this was provided - great. The box of left behind mouldy food in the fridge from a previous guest was not so great. The bathroom was small. There was an over bath shower with 2/3rd fixed glass screen. The shower was fine but because of the fixed screen we found it impossible to get into the bath! No rail, couldn’t hold the side of the bath because of the screen - ridiculous. On checking out the female receptionist failed to make eye contact, in fact just failed to look at me. Even when I asked questions she couldn’t raise her head. On a positive the concierge staff were lovely. Sad though that when you ask for recommendations for a pancake restaurant, and make the journey there is closed down and clearly has been for some time. The lobby feels like you're stepping into another world. Friendly staff, great room service and well thought out art makes this place feel special. The tree out front has the most incredible energy! Don't forget to touch her and take some of it with you!
