Shutters on the Beach

Santa Monica, Los Angeles

The hotel

A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, Shutters on the Beach is an award-winning establishment with a distinctly discerning clientele. Similar in style to a 1920s or 1930s beach resort, it is light, airy and luxurious with many works of art on show, including pictures by David Hockney and Robert Motherwell. Rooms and suites boast all the comforts of home and are very generous in size with great views of the ocean. Amenities include the gorgeous ONE Spa offering a wide range of signature treatments, including the RED FLOWER HAMMAM detoxifying treatment. There’s also a swimming pool to laze by and a well-equipped fitness centre with sauna and steam rooms. One Pico is the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, showcasing a seasonally changing menu of modern American cuisine. If a more laid-back atmosphere appeals, however, beach-side cafe Coast more than fits the bill and is open from morning until night. For afternoon tea and evening cocktails, look no further than the lobby lounge, a cosy, intimate space that is popular with locals and guests alike.

It’s such a nice hotel and we all felt taken care of, top notch service. You will receive two drink tickets and as much Pacific Wheel ride tickets you want at the pier, just ask front desk. Remember to use the the free bikes available, it is so much fun. Hotel was clean and rooms was luxurious. I read on previous reviews about the smell by the elevator and the rugs in front of entrance being old, I’m not sure what those reviewers was talking about! This place was top notch. Most dining places within walking distance and walking to third street was just 15mins away. If you are planning R&R or with family before heading to Disneyland, I highly recommend this place! We were so busy we didn’t even use the pool or the hot jacuzzi. There’s a house car that can take you anywhere after 3pm. Staff is friendly and pleasant. Would come back again! I’m glad I selected this hotel in Santa Monica it did not disappoint. Read less

However, the people watching as excellent. The restaurant is about 500 feet from the water, but you can see the pier just north, and watch the Ferris wheel and roller coaster light up as it gets dark, that was cool. And the endless stream of people waking by was also entertaining, including at least one wedding party. Oh, and yes, the food was very good, nice selection of fish and seafood and a varied cocktail menu. Service was fine, nothing that stood out but nothing bad. Would recommend for special occasions. We were there for graduation dinner. Read less

This is by far the nicest hotel I have stayed in. The staff were extremely kind and accommodating and the hotel was spotlessly clean. I would certainly return if I am in the area again. The check in and check out process were seamless and efficient and any questions I had were quickly and kindly answered.

Such a wonderful team of staff members. Great food and love the lobby bar. Rooms were very clean and cozy, but still modern amenities. The breakfast at Coast overlooking the ocean made for a beautiful start to the day. The food was healthy, fresh and delicious. Can't wait to come back.
