The Garland

Hollywood, Los Angeles

The hotel

Set in seven, leafy North Hollywood acres, The Garland is a relaxing, family friendly boutique hotel that doesn’t skimp on style while placing you and your tribe within a free shuttle ride of Universal Studios and a wealth of other essential LA attractions and experiences. The vibe here is funky retro, from the indecently comfortable leather armchairs by the lobby fireplace to room and suites (including family suites) that feature back-in-the-day geometric prints and funky furniture. Farm-fresh dining is the order of the day here, and we love The Garland’s weekly programme of muck-in activities that includes guided urban walks, Dive-In movies by the pool and courtyard games.

Very nice hotel. We were moved from our 1st room as the noise from the nearby freeway was a bit loud. This wasnon the 7th floor of the Portola building. Ask for a quite room when reserving to avoid this happening. 2nd room was in the El Dorado building. Hotel offers free shuttle jus every hour starting at 7am to either Universal Studios or Universal Metro stop. Metro is a great way to the get into the main part of LA. Just 1 stop away from the Chinese Theatre and hop on hop off bus tours. Only cost $1.75 for a single trip or $7 for a whole day. Bar in the hotel next to the pool stays open to 10pm. Main restaurant is called the The Front Yard and food is very nice, drinks are expensive and an automatic 15% service tax is added to the bill. Plenty local bars and coffee shops around the area of the hotel as well so it's in a great location for a LA holiday. Read less

I really like this place. It’s full of 70s style decorations, and rooms are well appointed and comfortable. It’s in walking distance to several restaurants, a neighborhood and a Ralph’s. The breakfast buffet is high quality although not free. While it’s off a busy street, the property feels quiet and secluded. It also has a free shuttle to… Read more

After finding food and drink in LA expensive, the happy hour was welcome relief. We particularly enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc. They were very flexible with our parking needs and were able to facilitate an early check in for us. The location is good and we felt safe walking around at night after having been out to eat. We stayed two nights at The Garland while we were in LA visiting Universal Studios with our two kids. The whole layout and ambiance of the hotel is amazing! There's a cute courtyard area where you can lounge and have drinks, or have food from the restaurant. The pool area has complimentary towels, and a fire place you can lay by while you lounge on plush patio loungers. The nights we were in town Universal closed early (6pm), so we took full advantage of the pool at night. The boys LOVED it. The rooms were very spacious, clean, and modern. The boys even said they liked it better than the Disneyland Hotel room we stayed at the previous nights. The hotel also offers a free shuttle service to Universal, that we used both days of our stay. It was a nice bonus! All the hotel staff we interacted with were courteous and helpful. They were even able to get us into a room prior to the check in time. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again=) Read less
