Mammoth Mountain Inn

Mammoth, USA

The hotel

Built in 1957, Mammoth Mountain Inn was Mammoth's first ski-resort accommodation and the only slope-side hotel at Mammoth's Main Lodge. Today it offers activities year round — in summer there's hiking, biking and outdoor adventures, and in winter it's a core skiers' and snowboarders' paradise, with the ultimate entry point to the slopes. Ski to the hotel at the end of the day and you can soon be blowing the steam off your hot toddy. Take a dip in the outdoor pool or one of the hot tubs, or pop to the games room. The Yodler dining terrace is the ideal place for a light snack on a sunny day and the great après-ski atmosphere in the Dry Creek Lounge is further enhanced by regular live music.

Aside from being on the mountain I have nothing good to say about this property. It reminds me of my freshman dorm (which isn’t a good thing.) The carpet has holes in it, the walls are dirty, the fixtures are falling apart, the lightbulbs are probably better in prison, the ceiling is crumbling, the hall smells funny, no hand sanitizer anywhere.… Read more

There was yogurt in the fridge. I get the feeling that the management figures that they have a captive audience so why bother making improvements. Read less

The location is wonderful and the staff pleasant and accommodating but the rooms need a total rehab. Our room had bugs, a non functional light and generally a run down feel. Unfortunately checking out felt like a relief.

We were on a road trip and spent 2 nights at the Mammoth Mt Inn. Great location with a view of Mammoth Mt and the trams and gondolas. We chose a reservation that included 2 tickets for the gondolas. Easy unloading with free parking. Very welcoming, beautiful lobby. The front desk staff were great! So helpful and conscientious. These were the high points along with the bed was comfy with plenty of pillows. The property felt almost empty, bar and restaurant closed. Reason was COVID, however we had the feeling it was more because of off season. The store/coffee shop was open 2 hours in the am and 2 hours in the pm. The wing in which we stayed felt like a long grey hospital ward. The room is outdated and cramped. In the one plug on the wall you could get to was plugged in the TV, mini frig, lamp, DVD player and you were supposed to use it for the coffee maker in the morning. I was worried to overload the plug we made the coffee on one of the night stands. The plug at the sink did not work. No AC or ceiling fan, a box fan was provided. We had a sliding door onto the (shared with the whole wing) balcony. The door was so hard to open it took all of my husbands strength to get it open. There were just a few chairs strewn about on the long balcony plus a couple of discarded beer bottles from past guests. The bathroom was so small, toilet and tub. We had to open the door to the bathroom in order to dry off. The property has installed tile in the tub area and in front of the vanity area which is in the room, next to the bed. So many cracked and broken tiles in such a small area! They moved as you stepped on them. I don't get why they haven't replaced at least the ones in the tub area. For our family this hotel was a splurge. We expected a step up. They even charged us a resort fee! Why? What resort? Yes, one of their pools was open, but you had to go down a long corridor, outside across a driveway, into an underground parking structure up an elevator to find it. It was creepy. We loved the gondola ride and sitting on the balcony but overall Mammoth Mt Inn, it's hallways, sliding doors and rooms deserve an upgrade. Great location, poor value. Read less

Most these bad reviews are spot on. No AC, filthy and run down. To add to that, the west building has 1 tiny and super slow elevator that is also the service elevator. During COVID times, only 1 family at a time. I had to resort to the stairs. But with thin mountain air I was completely winded to get to the 3rd floor (really the 4th floor). But worst of all not a SINGLE hand sanitizing station in the entire building unlike all other hotels during these times. Because of how filthy everything was, I have zero confidence any handle or elevator button has been sanitized in months. Oh, and the lobby, newly renovated and attractions is just a tease. It is in no way representative of the hotel. I could go on, but I’ll stop here. I definitely regret not staying at the village like we normally do just to save some money. The Yodler (the restaurant) was the only saving grace. Outstanding food and friendly staff. Otherwise stay away from this hotel!! Read less

My son and I recently stayed here and really enjoyed our visit. The things that matter most to me when on a mini- vacay are cleanliness of the room & bathroom, comfort of the bed, quiet at night for good sleeping, and the customer service being provided. All of these areas were excellent during our stay. The hotel is older, so if you are seeking a 5-star ritzy experience, this may not be the pick for you. But if you're someone who is seeking great location, helpful service, a comfy bed in a cozy room etc... you'll be happy here! They have DVD's for checkout at the front desk, a small but clean/heated pool, a general store near the lobby.. and lots of restaurants/shops just down the hill. *All staff & guests wore masks (for Covid protection) and you could see they were actively cleaning the hotel throughout our stay. Thank you to the very helpful staff! Read less
