The New York EDITION

Midtown, New York

The hotel

A taste of elite New York living, the residential feel of The New York EDITION sets it apart from your average Manhattan hotel. Inside an historic clocktower, near the Flatiron building and Madison Square Park, its grand interiors are swathed in neutral, warm, ivory and oatmeal. The elegant guestrooms are just as decadent, featuring oversized windows, rain showers, complimentary WiFi, 48” HDTVs, and BEATS Bluetooth speakers. Its spa is reserved exclusively for hotel guests, but there’s no keeping New York’s gastro-aficionados from The Clocktower: with Michelin starred Jason Atherton at the helm, its classic-meets-contemporary British menu is served in three exquisite dining rooms (and the Lobby Bar). The centrepiece of the dining experience is the Gold Bar, with its gilt-framed photos, 3 foot globe chandelier, glistening cocktails, and 24k gold leaf bar ensuring it lives up to its name.

I travel to NY often for work and have stayed at The NY Edition roughly five six times over the last six months. It’s become my go-to property and absolute NYC fave. The location is excellent, the accommodations are beautiful and modern and the staff is completely on-point delivering excellent service to business travelers. My stays have specifically been made incredible by the wonderful service from Gabrielle Lewis. Anytime she knows I’m coming, she leaves a lovely sweet treat and handwritten note to welcome me back. She’s always available if I have questions or needs, and she quickly connects me to the appropriate contact on the property if my need is outside of her responsible area. Even still, she follows up to ensure that I’ve received prompt attention. When traveling for work and managing a chaotic amount of details, having someone like Gabrielle completely changes the experience. So thankful for her! I highly recommend The Edition property. Honestly, there are lots more “Gabrielles” to be found in their incredible staff. Read less

The first thing I noticed upon entering the hotel is how not ADA-friendly the check in and entrance experience is. You walk in and pick up your luggage to go up the stairs on your left to the check in desk. The check in experience was mostly ok. I asked if I needed a reservation at the restaurant and he said no, I should be fine. After checking in I tried to go to the restaurant with one other person (party of 2) and they were full. They checked and offered us a bar seat for 45 minutes. Does that sound right? They book the bar too? Anyway, the food probably would not have come out in 45 minutes so we went somewhere else. The room was very white. I appreciated the water bottles with the turndown service. The highlight of this hotel for me was the Le Labo products, which smell really good. The table with banquette was also good for sitting at and doing work. For a high end hotel, I had a meh experience and would probably try out another hotel if I had the choice. Read less

But what makes the experience is the staff! Every single staff person at The Edition is the nicest, most courteous, accommodating, and "ready to help you in anyway possible" person - I mean every single person from reception to concierge to bar staff. And they always do special little things for you to make you feel extra welcome like they do at Four Seasons or Kempinski. The rooms are new, clean, spacious with plush towels, slippers, and robes. Great location too - central yet quiet. Highly recommend 01 rooms - spacious room with a view of Madison Square Park. Your guys are doing all the right things. Please keep it going strong. I will definitely come back soon. Read less

The hotel in general is nice - the lobby and rooms are fairly basic. Basic in a clean modern way though. Our room was small - but then again every room we've ever booked in NYC has been small. The lobby bar is interesting and on a weekend night will get some energy. The things that stood out here though is the restaurant and bar on the upper floor. Very cool atmosphere and decor. We would stay here again, purely for the staff though. Every staff member at the Edition took their time to ask us how our stay was, if there was anything we needed, and made friendly banter. We remarked a few times how abnormally helpful and friendly the hotel staff were - so 5 stars for staff - front desk, housekeeping, to the bartender. Thanks guys! Read less

We have stayed here twice. The first time was amazing, hence our second stay. We live in NJ, so come here for a little getaway when we can. We always book through American Express fine hotels and resorts. We arrived early, but our room wasn't ready. Not a problem, we just asked that they call us when the room became available. Check in is at 3pm, so around 330pm I inquired at the front desk and was told the room was ready. There was no explanation as to why no one had notified us. The manager overheard and sent a complimentary bottle of wine to the room. We went to dinner that night and came back to find that the room was never serviced. No note and again, no explanation. The following day we had our complimentary breakfast, however upon checking out we were charged for the breakfast. The person assisting us at check out never even asked how our stay was. When I told him I was a bit disappointed and that there was a significant difference in service from the last time, he just said "sorry." Didn't ask any questions. Couldn't care less. He removed the breakfast, but surprisingly enough we were still charged! I called the manager a few days after our stay and he was very apologetic. He offered to send me a "care package" so I provided him with my address. A month later I still haven't received anything. The hotel itself is nice, but service is inconsistent especially for such an expensive hotel. Read less
