The Plaza Midtown Central Park

Midtown, New York

The hotel

Feel like you’ve been here before? You have, in the movies anyway. From Home Alone 2 and Bride Wars, to Sleepless in Seattle, the location has proved a blockbuster backdrop for some firm film favourites. The Plaza certainly lives up to its name, and being a National Historic Landmark it’s full of old-world elegance and grandeur. Just south of Central Park, there’s plenty of places to eat and drink right on your doorstep, but some of the hotel’s own restaurants are not to be missed. And not forgetting the aptly named Champange Bar, where you can sip on some bubbles whilst looking out on Fifth Avenue and The Pulitzer Fountain.

Everyone went out of their way to make our stay fabulous! I want to mention especially "Leo" the manager of the Palm Court, who personally walked us to a nearby restaurant late after food service ended at the hotel. He was so concerned about us (it was myself and my daughter and we were unfamiliar with neighborhood) that he stayed and spoke with receptionist to make sure we would be seated! One of the best meals ever. Alex, a front office manager, also went out of his way to make our stay amazing. This hotel is going out of its way to do everything possible in the midst of the pandemic to take care of its guests. Thank you Plaza! Sandy Slaton, Paradise Valley, AZ Read less

We loved our stay at The Plaza. It’s a classic property, clean and updated. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, with great bedding, lots of closet and drawer space, an abundance of hangers, and a wet bar including a microwave and refrigerator. There’s no coffee/hot water maker but you can request one. I do wish there were electrical outlets on both sides of the bed. The spacious bathroom has plenty of counter space, and an (unlighted) makeup mirror. The lighting could be better. Appreciated the two robe hooks, an often-overlooked amenity. The shower includes a handheld as well as an overhead rain showerhead, but the handheld cradle is not as useful as an upright hands-free holder would be. Service is top-notch. The concierge was very helpful. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and good food, though it is expensive and breakfast hours are quite limited, with the last seating at 9:45. However, Sarabeth’s just down the street is convenient and very good for breakfast. Unfortunately, the Food Hall downstairs is permanently closed. Read less

So look, it’s the plaza. Incredible history, amazing building, great location….but it’s not a five star. It’s Marriott service at best in a very nice building. If you are ok with a long check in process by people who don’t care and concierge that don’t know the city and having everyone put their hand out for a big tip than this place may be for… Read more

Rooms are great, it’s the people that make this place less than what it is. Has incredible potential but it’s far from a five star hotel. Read less

From the moment I started the reservation process I was extremely impressed ! My reservation was a bit complicated because I was booking 4 rooms of different types with multiple requests for each room! I was transferred to one of the Front Desk Reservation Manager’s Sarah and along with Emma who is the Director of Front Office made sure that everything went extra extra perfectly . My husband and I were celebrating our 40 th anniversary with our sons, wives and grandchildren at the Plaza and everyone we came in contact with was very professional and caring about how our experience was going . We were lucky to meet Hapsumi on the concierge team . She was beyond accommodating to the ever changing needs of 4 families with children on different time schedules. When she was off James jumped right in to pick up where Hapsumi left off ! The room butlers were also very helpful as was Pedro from accounting . We had some combined room charges that he very efficiently and quickly redirected to the proper rooms . I want to thank the entire team for making the trip truly memorable in the best of ways Again extra special thank you’s to Emma ,Sarah and Hapsumi ! And although I did not meet the hotel manager we appreciated the bubbly :-) Read less
