ANdAZ West Hollywood

West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Virgin rating

The hotel

As sleek and understated as it appears from its spot on LA’s legendary Sunset Boulevard, the Andaz West Hollywood is actually a prime slab of Rock ‘n’ Roll history that dates back to 1963. Over the years the likes of The Who’s Keith Moon and The Stones’ Keith Richards have sent TVs flying off the (now enclosed) balconies, while Led Zep drummer John Bonham reportedly rode a motorbike up and down the corridors. Thoroughly renovated for the 21st century the Andaz relishes its history, but these days the musical motifs complement the minimally chic décor in boutique-style rooms rather than run rampant. Indeed, there’s a friendly, unpretentious welcome here that extends from the hotel’s enticing eateries to its breathtaking rooftop pool (where, incidentally, Spinal Tap’s end of tour party was filmed). Rock. And. Roll.

It was a central location but the hotel needs a face lift. Towels horrible. Pool did not have enough seating and it was too loud. Hard to relax. I would not recommend for the money. Place was filthy. Carpet stained.

The room did seem dated, with carpet that had seen better days, but a comfortable bed. I asked the next morning if there was a globalist upgrade available and they were happy to oblige, I just needed to wait till later in the day, I left my bags downstairs with them and was out till around 4pm. I came back and was upgraded to a suite, with a sunset and city view! Gorgeous, so spacious, and the room was so awesome. Breakfasts were also fabulous and the staff was really helpful and kind. Loved my stay here. There’s a Fred Segal just a couple of blocks down, great clothing store, and they were having a sale, couldn’t be better!! Read less

I've stayed here several times and the hotel is run down. The elevator was broken while I was there. The rooms in general need updating. And the smoke alarm was broken and beeping and had to be repaired twice, disrupting my sleep. A very bad experience.

It was my first time as a Hyatt Discoverist member and they kindly upgraded our room to one with a great view, and took care of us at our rooftop pool cabana for my birthday celebration with a few friends. It was a great staycation experience and we would totally do it again in the future. Read less

We enjoyed our stay at this renowned hotel. We are a family of five and activities in the area for children are limited however the stay was very comfortable. We missed not having the ability to make coffee in our room as per our usual routine in the morning.
