The hotel

Daring to be different, this is fast becoming recognised as one of the hippest hotels in Hollywood. As chic and playful as the city that surrounds it, Dream Hollywood is dressed for the red carpet – from the fresh dove-whites of its lobby and gadget-stuffed guest rooms, to the sheer opulence of its dining venues. Led by the formidable TAO Group, the restaurants take you from the Far East at dramatic TAO Asian Bistro, to the sun of Sicily at Luchini Pizzeria & Bar, and to old Hollywood glamour at Beauty & Essex, with its multi-ethnic menu. But winning the Oscar for best-dressed set is The Highlight Room, an off-the-charts rooftop venue that brings together a spectacular cast: a contemporary Californian menu, handcrafted cocktails, a swanky rooftop pool with perfectly padded loungers and private cabanas, and views out to the Hollywood sign.

Stayed here for the first time last week. I knew there was a Destination fee/ "Facility Fee" of ~$50 (including tax) for this hotel but there was no explanation at check-in of what that fee was for. I essentially got absolutely NOTHING for that egregious fee. Is the morning coffee in the lobby what that fee was for??? The fact that I have to get dressed and go downstairs just to get my morning Joe is not acceptable for what claims to be high end property. Meanwhile, there is a full and complete mini bar with at least 20 different kinds of alcohol instead of a simple coffee machine. An obvious money grab, huh? Add to this the valet parking fee costing another ~$75 (including tax) and you're down ~$125 before even paying for the room itself. Tip: There is a private parking lot with in and out privileges a block away on Wilcox Ave. for $40 a night. The hotel is located in Hollywood as the name suggests. Unfortunately, it's become a kinda seedy area with lots of homeless people walking around begging. That's not really the hotel's fault but it does make staying there less and less desirable nowadays. Lastly, if you plan on working and/or getting some rest, there is loud, thumping music until at least 1 AM that makes that practically impossible. The room itself was nice enough though it had some of the rattiest, thinnest, shredded towels I've ever seen outside of a motel property. Crass and low class. I know I won't be staying at this property again. Read less

Just got back from an 8-day stay at the Dreams Los Cabo Suites Golf Resort and Spa in March 2024 The resort itself is quite lovely. The immediate push straight from checking in is to get you signed up for a tour of the resort which coincidentally is a sales pitch for the timeshare of the resort. If you decline the tour/sales pitch, you are left to explore and find things on your own. Luckily the resort is not so big that it is difficult to navigate the premise on your own. The suite we had was spacious and the view was more overlooking the adult pool than the actual view of the beach. The view was from the living room area rather than from the bedroom. Two full bathrooms were nice for a larger group sharing the space. Housekeeping and replenishment of snacks did a nice job during our stay. We wished there were more than three restaurants to choose from for supper meals. We quickly learned to get in line by 5:30 (for a 6 pm open) if we wanted to eat in the first round of diners. If you arrive at 6 pm, then you'll have at least an hour to wait for a table. Breakfasts, typically but not always, are able to get you a table in a timely manner. Beach and poolside chairs each have signs that you are not allowed to reserve chairs by placing resort towels or personal items on the chairs. Unfortunately, it was not a policy adhered to by the hotel or security team. During our stay, there were large family groups who would regularly “reserve” large areas of the beach and main pool areas. It was not unusual for 75% of chairs to be “reserved” by 6 am. The only exception to this is the adult pool area was easier to find chairs but there was no view of the beach from there. Although the gym/fitness space is not the best hotel fitness center, we'd still rate it fairly high. Pros- free weights ranging from 5-100# dumbbells, stretching area, TRX band, box jumps, plenty of weight machines, 5 treadmills, 2 recumbent bikes, and 3 ellipticals. Cons- no indoor stretching area, too much equipment in such a small area, no spin bikes, and no attendant, which is unusual for a hotel facility of this size and caliber. (An attendant would ensure water availability, trash removal, clean mtowel accessibility, and encourage proper gym etiquette for guests.) We'd like to emphasize and point out several staff members who made our stay even better. Angela is a warm and welcoming hostess at Seaside and the breakfast buffet. Victor, Amilcar, and Alma are attentive and friendly wait staff at the restaurants. Emilio and Lili are two fantastic beach bar staff who made sure to serve up drinks and afternoon meals. We had the pleasure of having many conversation with manager Alejandro Perez; she is a real asset to the Dreams Resort. Read less

The hotel is upscale and trendy; I think it was absorbed into the Hyatt Group, but seemingly not upgraded. The shower was fantastic, especially for ADA compliance. However, I would recommend safety strips on the floor as the floor was slippery! Another safety bar on the wall wouldn’t be overkill, either. The mattress on the bed was horribly soft! I don’t think there was any supporting structure inside the mattress, leading to an aching back in the middle of the night, with it being much worse upon waking. However, ostensibly the worst part of the stay was the throbbing music and bass reverb from the nightclub! I’m not sure if it was actually upstairs or downstairs, but we were on the fourth floor and experienced it quite clearly until 2am, when it closed up! Not good when you have an early morning seminar!! The valet service was exceptional, very helpful above and beyond with my wheelchair and navigating into the hotel. They were all wonderfully responsive and quite kind. The front desk people were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I recommend you bring a pocketful of bills for tipping, as the entire place is cashless. Exploring room service was exasperating—because it took a concentrated effort, we finally gave up and ordered UberEats. We weren’t disappointed with the Mediterranean food we ordered, either! Dream Hollywood is an awesome hotel with a funky interior design and great ambiance. The hotel lobby has an art museum feel and the rooftop pool and restaurant are stunning. I absolutely enjoyed my stay at Dream Hollywood and look forward to my next stay there.
