Flamingo

The Strip, Las Vegas

Virgin rating

The hotel

This historic hotel was built by Vegas legend, Bugsy Siegel back in 1946 and it's seen countless celebrities walk through its doors in the last 60 years, as well as being the backdrop for the original Ocean's Eleven film and Viva Las Vegas. It has an amazing location right in the middle of The Strip and near the fantastic Caesars Forum Shops, with award-winning Flamingo Go Rooms. The hotel is great for kids with its amazing Beach Club Pool. The GO Pool offers a 21+ lively pool party experience with its amazing 15-acre tropical pool paradise, which has whirlpools and four different swimming pools nestled among the lush, green foliage. Then there's the Wildlife Habitat, where the resort's eponymous flamingos hang out with turtles, swans and ducks. There's a choice of eight restaurants including Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville and Margaritaville Casino, featuring the 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar. Margaritaville is as much a state of mind as it is a place. The multi-level Caribbean-themed entertainment venue offers two outdoor patios overlooking the Las Vegas Strip, a nautical-themed restaurant, five distinctive bars, live entertainment nightly (both indoors and outdoors) and a 3,000-sq ft retail store. You can also eat outside by the pool or even enjoy a spot of gambling in the pool casino located at the GO Pool! At the Margaritaville Casino at the Flamingo, guests feel the energy of the Las Vegas strip while enjoying the laid-back vibe of the islands.

Mid 50s couple from Midwest. We have traveled to Vegas many times over the course of years, and stayed at the flamingo often, but this will be the last time. We like it’s convenient location, but there are others near we can stay at. Family of 5, with 3 young adult children (18, 21, and 23) Issues that made for not so great experience: Check in experience was horrible. Staff standing around doing nothing apparently- a Wednesday/early evening. Thank god for mobile check in which we eventually did with a kiosk. even that took forever. We had 2 rooms. Each room allows 2 free wifi devices per room (not 2 people, but 2 devices). For any additional device is $15/device. For 5 working individuals with cell phones and on line work to do, this can add up. If you turned your device wifi off and try to use cellular for the cell (Verizon carrier) rarely could get service in the hotel room area. Could get cell service at least in the casino. This was annoying at best and I prefer to not spend my time each day registering each device. Just charge more per room and allow guest wifi please Hallway carpet on our floor was gross (floor 19) . Dirty, crumpled up, and smelled of smoke and THc. The rooms were reasonably remodeled and were ok. the pool situation sucks for the <21 y/o or families that don’t want to listen to blaring base all day. Flamingo has devided their pools into the “go pool”- aka party pool, that they also sell tickets to non patrons of the hotel. The go pool area a party area, Is crazy busy and people were lining up at 8:00 and to get in by 9:00 am and get a chair. You have to go through security like getting into a bar. The entrance for hotel patrons is the same as for outside ticket buyers. The other pool that allows those under 21 to enter is about the size of my back yard pool (for a hotel of 3600 rooms) and no where to sit/enjoy unless you get up at 8:00am and are lucky to get one of the maybe 75 Chase lounge chairs there. My 18 y/o and I hung here for about 2 hours in our total stay. We called it the “toddler pool” as this is what it seemed. I guess this is their way of keeping patrons of the hotel in the casino. Their pool security needs to get it together. Post clearly at the entry (prior to waiting to get in) what is and what is not allowed. I was sent back to my room twice trying to enter the one/only time I went to the pool because: 1. Used a metal thermos glass for a drink 2. Had some Chips in my bag. I acknowledge, This is my error as it does clearly state (once in the pool area, past the guard) that outside food drink not allowed. What was annoying that I was told the first time I tried to enter when they inspected my bag was to put my drink in a plastic container (rather than metal). so I leave the pool and go buy a plastic dispenser, take it to the pool to try to Enter again and then I am told by a different security guard that outside food and drink not allowed and to take it all back to the room. I was annoyed and challenged her, explaining what I was told by the prior guard, and she ultimately let me in but told me not to open my food/drink🤦🏻‍♀️. Overall, for us as a family, multiple minor things added up to make not such a great experience. Will not return back to the flamingo as a family, even if the price seems right. Read less

We stayed for 5 nights in a Metropolitan Suite. The suite size was great as it was 4 of us, including two teens (16,19) and this not only gave them some space of their own but also access to 2.5 bathrooms. Hotel location is right in the middle of everything, and that was great as well. But that’s really where the positives end. We had a terrible view, but I suppose someone has to have it. The room is super dark unless you keep the curtains open, which means at night you are out of luck. There is nothing modern about the room. No USB ports and no microwave (safety hazard), despite microwaves being pictured in their suite 3D walk thru. Their wifi is limited to 2 devices and then a $14.95 fee per device kicks in. We roughed it out using data, but it was like being in a cave. Internet was spotty and slow when using data. We had minor inconveniences while we were there. Safe didn’t work and needed a reset. Maintenance came pretty quickly but seemed very put out about it. Housekeeping didn’t show up our first night and we had to wait for towels because there are no hooks in the bathroom so you have no choice but to use fresh towels every day. One morning we were woken very early by a call from room service. They had the wrong room. There’s also no make up mirror. Hope TSA lets me thru because I’m sure I now have a mustache and beard. Casino is small and smokey. Shops and restaurants are nothing to write home about. The “beauty” shops have hawkers in the hallway. Not interested in being hassled in our hotel. But that’s the kind of place it is. No security to get into the elevators so any schlub can roam the halls. They do have a neat texting service with guest services. That was very handy. Wouldn’t stay again but did enjoy location and room size. Read less

What we got was an old run down version. The manager gave us a room of less value than what we booked and tried to up charge us an additional $20 per night. I complained to another manger and she removed the charges, but acted like it was all our fault. We stayed in the new room given, but was not what we wanted, the management acted like they did us a favor. Three adults had to share a king room, with one having to sleep on the tiny davenport style couch. We've stayed at Flamingo many times before and always had great rooms. This was the worst ever, and we will not be staying there again. The smell of marijuana was everywhere and the rooms were disgusting. The impersonal kiosks check ins were terrible and most didn't work. We had to find a live person to check out, just so we could use our rewards points. The staff seemed to not give a damn one way or another. MGM properties look appealing for our next trip to Vegas. Read less

Las Vegas is too too too much but in a good way if you don't stare at it too long. Check in process was a bit of a mess b/c no one seemed to know that the self-check in kiosks were working. Line could've moved twice as fast if people had been made aware that those machines were, in fact, functioning. First night, the guests in the room next door… Read more

Line could've moved twice as fast if people had been made aware that those machines were, in fact, functioning. First night, the guests in the room next door were clowning, but nothing a pair of noise-cancelling headphones couldn't drown out. I have trashy neighbors where I live, too, and I expect I'll have them in the afterlife, as well. For the rate I paid, which was basically just the resort fee and tax, it was more than serviceable. If I were a luxury high roller, I might have been disappointed, but I'm a budget traveller and I have no real complaints. The Go Pool is pretty great. Gym was adequate. All of the workers I interacted with were cheerful but not fake/obsequiously cheerful. Checkout was easy and no hidden fees. I'll probably stay there again for the peculiar nostalgia the place holds for me. It's the last original Old Vegas property on the Strip, but I think anything from the 1940s was razed in the 1970s. The tide of humanity drifting through the lobby level and casino put a smile on my face. I live in a tourist city, but nothing could match the Flamingo lobby and casino for the variety of people-watching you can enjoy. You will literally never see any of these people again and it's a bloody relief. Vegas as a whole is just a potently ridiculous place. Maybe next time I'll stay at Circus Circus. That place looks haunted. Read less

Just returned from a one week stay at the Flamingo. Excellent location, the hotel and Casino were as expected. However, the registration check in is brutal. Depending on your arrival time, and assuming no changes to their system, plan on waiting hours not minutes to check in. The staff was understandably apologetic for a management that seems to favour technology and labour savings to customer service. This check in process should be unacceptable and the Flamingo should be embarrassed. Read less
