Hilton Toronto

The hotel

Hilton Toronto is seriously well-connected — it’s attached to the city’s popular PATH walkway, an underground labyrinth linking you to top downtown sights and forming the world’s largest subterranean shopping venue. If PATH’s 1,200-plus stores don’t satisfy your retail urges, you’re also an above-ground walk from hundreds of shops at Eaton Centre, along with that Toronto tourist must, CN Tower. They haven’t rested on their ‘location’ laurels here though: Hilton have made sure there’s plenty to return to after exploring, with a fitness room, indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, and spacious modern guestrooms (some with complimentary Continental breakfast thrown in). If you’re just returning for dinner, you’ve got the steakhouse’s prime Midwestern beef and Tundra Restaurant’s Canadian styling and global dining to pick from — each chased with a cheeky post-dinner coffee from the hotel’s own branch of Starbucks®.

Myself and my Partner stayed here for 5 nights before we went into Vancouver for another 5 night back in early June. First impressions, the doormen were absolutely miserable, no welcome greeting or offer to help with cases - nothing. HUGE queue for checking in, however, it did go relatively quickly. We were in the King Superior room which was very big compared to what I thought it would be like size wise, with an amazing view out across the city. We were very high up and did hear noise throughout the night but what do you expect in a big city like that. The cleanliness of the room was fine, nothing terrible, nothing great. The bed however, was incredibly comfortable and wish we could have brought that home with us. The pool area up on the roof had amazing views again and LOVED the fact that the outdoor pool was heated. The location was perfect for us with everything on our doorstep. The only thing which shocked us massively, and this isn’t anything obviously to do with the hotel itself, was the sheer amount of homeless people literally lying in the middle of the pavements outside and even one man was lying with his legs into the middle of the road with his head resting on the kerb as a pillow. Never did I expect to see this and soooo many homeless people in Toronto. Mattresses in the middle of the pavements with people sleeping on them. Very very sad to see and I’ve been to many large cities across the world and never seen it as bad as that before. This and the general “vibe” of Toronto, left us feeling a bit unsafe walking around even during the day at times and quite intimidated. I would definitely not have walked anywhere on my own, day or night for example, without my Partner with me which was again, really sad to have to report as I honestly expected people to be really friendly and it was the total opposite. (Vancouver was only slightly better on the friendly scale but even then, it was like pulling teeth!). All in all, the hotel itself was perfectly fine, very clean lobby area, rooms were ok but could maybe do with a bit of a revamp but the location is ideal. Would return to the hotel in the future if we went back. Read less

Had a great stay for one night when our AC was down for a few days during a heat wave. The pool was great! Good menu and drinks. We ended up in a suite and it was very comfortable with a king bed and living area. We had dinner at Tundra which was decent and the lobby coffee in the morning was great. Overall a good stay

Our 5th stay at the Hilton downtown TO and we still think it’s the best place to stay. Friendly and welcoming staff, clean and comfortable rooms ( the bed = wow!) , amazing view, easy access and close to everything. The outdoor pool is perfect for a rooftop experience. Worth the money.

Stayed here the Friday of the big Rogers internet and cell outage in Canada and while the hotel had issues due to that they never let it get to them. The front desk staff were under a tremendous amount of pressure to get everyone registered-there was a lineup so long it took nearly an hour to get from the back to the front - yet there was nothing but smiles and helpfulness from them. They brought out pop and water for everyone-a small but appreciated gesture. The room was very clean and the AC worked great and wasn’t too noisy. I found the USB chargers in the lamps did not power my iPad and very very very slowly charged my iPhone. I had much better luck using a charger plugged into the wall socket in the bathroom. The rooms are dated and a touch beat up -at least the one I was in (1712) was. However, I found the room large and well equipped and super important for me very quiet and I a nice view of Toronto. Overall I would stay here again and I would recommend this hotel. Read less
