The hotel

The Roosevelt is Hollywood's only historic hotel still in operation today. It hosted the first ever Academy Awards in 1929 and has seen throngs of people - including celebrities galore - pass through its doors. The hotel has even been featured in a few films and Shirley Temple took her first tap-dancing lesson on the tiled stairway! As if that's not enough, Montgomery Clift and Marilyn Monroe are reputed to haunt the joint - proof this place is too good to leave!

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Roosevelt for two nights, from Monday to Wednesday. On the first day we had expected to relax in the hotel, but without any prior warning we were dissapointed to find out that the pool, lobby, and the hotel restaurant were all closed for the entire day. After we checked in, we hadn't been in our room for more than 30 minutes when hotel staff attempted to enter our room without knocking. We didn't have time to put the do-not-disturb sign up, but thankfully had thought to lock the door. There needs to be better communication between cleaning staff and the front desk about when rooms need to be cleaned so that guests aren't terrified by someone attempting to enter their room. Not to mention, this made me wonder if our room was even clean before we entered. There were stains on the curtains in front of the window, and dust under all the furniture. This all would have been easy enough to get over without leaving a negative review, however both nights we had our sleep violently and loudly interupted and it really ruined our perception of the hotel. Tuesday morning at around 7:45 am before we woke up, construction on the Mezanine (closed for our entire stay) woke up every guest on the south side of the hotel. Then again at 11:45 pm on the same day a horrible, screaching alarm played in every room of the hotel along with a frightening PA announcement refering to a mysterious "life saftey alert system" that lead us to believe our lives might be in danger. The alarm was so jarring that I'm sure any children in the hotel were crying. We had to complain to the front desk at 8 am to get the construction to stop, and we never recieved any apology or explaination for the alarm. There are many hotels in Hollywood, and I would never spend the excess amount of money it costs to visit The Roosevelt again, the experience is simply not worth the money. Read less

The staff is very nice and polite, but not overdone. Security detail is friendly and professional. Most of the other guest are from far. They give off the vibe like they wealthy and a bit booshie. And lots of good looking females out here

Had an incredible time here. Such an iconic place. The pool was really cool, there is a bowling alley (didn’t get a chance to go), staff was accommodating, room was great. I hear they have yoga on the roof, too. I’m all about design, very cool details to discover in the hotel.

We had a minor room assignment issue when we arrived, but the manager Travis went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of and happy. He is great. Can't wait to go back next year Read less
