InterContinental The Willard Washington D.C.

Washington DC, USA

Virgin rating

The hotel

Nicknamed ‘The Residence of Presidents’, the name-dropping guestbook at this historic hotel backs-up its status as a DC ‘des res’. Some of that kudos is down to its address – on Pennsylvania Avenue, this district’s other notable residences include The White House, just one block away. Inside, The Willard InterContinental spills secrets of its 200 year history in its high-drama décor, from the uber-grand lobby to the regal ‘Peacock Alley’ (the ideal spot for afternoon tea). It may be perfectly positioned for sightseeing and restaurant-hopping, but they’ve also added time-wasting treats like a sumptuous spa and tempting dining and drinking spaces like their French-inspired brasserie, Café du Parc.

If you come to Washington, you must stay at the Willard, if you can afford it. The lobby is great to people watch, and they have afternoon tea in Peacock Alley on the weekends. They have the historic Round Robin Bar, which is probably the most famous bar in the United States. Overall, very expensive, but very, very nice.

Great experience. We brought our two young girls for a visit to the capital, and could not have found a better place to stay. Fantastic location - walking distance to many sites. Service was thoughtful and attentive; they have a "kid's concierge" who oversees a small library, which added a nice touch. Our room was spacious, clean and very well… Read more

First time back after a long while (10 years+), when I stayed as a frequent guest for work. They kindly offered me the same discounted rate. I was in a large junior suite on the 3rd floor, and on first impressions the room didn't look that different to when I used to stay, but they had made quite a number of improvements - TV, minibar, etc. The beds were, and still are, super comfortable. The only major let down in the room was the air conditioning, that sounded like a jet fighter taking off (and on inspection was full of dust). Other than that, housekeeping was fine and room service fast and very good quality (although a little sad that they've got rid of the Jumbo Shrimps!). The location is simply unbeatable and the front desk very helpful. It's a shame that the door staff and valet team are not as friendly - but as a good option in DC, with a little history thrown in, the Willard is a good option. Read less

We took a family trip to Washington, DC and stayed at this fabulous hotel. This is an exceptional hotel with equally exceptional staff. Everyone from the bell hop to the front desk to the concierge to the cleaning staff. The rooms and property were immaculate. Definitely would stay here again.

Exceptional - as always. Perfectly placed for sightseeing and a welcoming place to come home to after a busy day. If you are lucky, you may be allocated a room where you can see The White House. The blossoms in DC are spectacular and not to be missed. You will certainly get your 10,000 steps in each day as there is so much to go and see in the… Read more
