Lotte New York Palace

Midtown, New York

Virgin rating

The hotel

Railroad magnate Henry Villard's 19th-century mansions were combined with a sleek tower to create one of the city's best hotels. It's a place where the staff greet you as if they have known you all their lives, and nothing is too much trouble. The location is one of the best in Manhattan, right in the middle of Midtown, but hidden away in a gated courtyard. There's dining options suited to all at the Lotte New York Palace, from luxury brunch to baked goods, whatever you opt for you'll be in for a treat. Enjoy handmade cocktails in one of Manhattan's most popular bars, Trouble's Trust, or relax in 19th century-style surroundings in Rarities - either make for the perfect post-day-in-the-city tipples.

Like most Floridians whenever a tropical storm comes our way we escape. My first time at the Palace and was greeted by friendly staff and the location couldn’t be better. Please have a drink at the gold room and rarities for a one of a kind experience you will remember

Fantastic property, offering the best modernized “NYC Classic Experience” in the city. The staff is Five Star along with the Concierge team. Rene at the concierge desk is the best of the best. Visiting both bars on property is a must and a real experience.

Special thanks to Isabella for helping us cater a superb picnic meal in Central Park, which our family will not soon forget, and to Clara for making us and I daresay all guests who visit the lobby feel special. Will certainly return. Thanks to all. Read less

This is my second visit to the hotel (the first was several years ago - and was a better experience). There is much to like about this hotel - but it has some problems that stop it from being a great hotel. The high points: 1. Great location in midtown, especially if you are shopping or going to the theater. 2. Glorious historic building. Make sure you visit the Gold Bar - and take a look around the original structure. 3. I had the Towers one bedroom suite, and it was huge! You could easily host a party for a dozen people comfortably. Great view, a comfy bed, and a big walk-in closet. 4. It feels very safe. There is a private entrance to the Towers rooms within the hotel, so a good choice for those seeking a bit more security. 5. Nice toiletries and linens. 6. Power shades and a Crestron light control system. 7. The staff was mostly friendly (but per the below - not very efficient). And the downsides... I arrived at 5:30 pm - anxious to shower and change clothes for an 8 pm dinner. Unfortunately my room was not ready - and I was told they would text me in 20 minutes when it would be done. They told me to go to the Gold Bar - and they would credit my room $200 for the inconvenience (which I thought was quite generous). I enjoyed the Gold Bar - but never received a text. Finally after an hour I went to the desk, and was told it was ready. They did not credit me $200 - but did pay for the drink I had. The room does not come with a coffeemaker - which would be standard in any other luxury hotel. I called down and they sent a traditional 8 cup maker to the room, which is not ideal for one person but sufficed. The next day I called down for additional coffee since I had run out. It was not delivered. I asked again for it at the desk, was assured it would be delivered, but it never came. Called again - and the request was ignored. Asked at the desk again on my next trip ourt - and despite the promise my request was ignored. The mini-bar has been shut down, all the glasses removed from the room, and a big ugly sign inserted on the front saying that due to covid it was not available. It is inconvenient - and greatly detracted from an otherwise pretty room. No turn-down service. This is kind of a nice-to-have in these days - but I did expect it at this level of hotel. Be prepared for really expensive room service for breakfast. Coffee is $18 (not a designer coffee - just coffee) - and perhaps that is why they don't want you to make it in the room. Most breakfast entrees are around $50, so with tip it is easy to spend $100 a person for breakfast. The place is looking dated. Like most older hotels, there are not enough plugs, so they put an ugly extension cord out for the desk that made a nice desk look like a temporary work space. So I was satisfied with the hotel, loved the location and the classic aura, but I think there are some management issues that could make it a much better experience. My suggestions: Put in a single cup coffee maker. Reconsider the mini-bar situation (there are safe ways to do it) - and at least stock the drinkware. Spend a couple hundred dollars per room to install wall plugs in key locations that accomodate guests' different charging requirements. Do some training with staff. Their followup is not good.
