The Beekman

Financial District, New York

Virgin rating

The hotel

Built in the same decade as the Brooklyn Bridge, The Beekman had stiff competition when it came to architectural neighbours – but its glamour and grace granted it kudos with the building buffs of the 19th century – and today. This skyscraper’s kept its drama with its marble entrance, Persian rug-slung lobby, and Victorian balustrade-draped atrium, which stretches nine storeys skyward before being capped with a glass pyramid. It’s not just opulent in design though, with its ‘nothing’s-too-much-trouble’ service and dining scene mirroring its old-world splendour and new-world luxury. Two of Manhattan’s finest names are behind The Beekman’s restaurants: Tom Colicchio reinterprets old and new classics at Temple Court, while Keith McNally recreates French brasserie elegance at Augustine. Or you could join the socialites (and sometimes celebs) at The Alley Cat for cocktails and Japanese Izakaya comfort food.

Beautiful, but in general very dark and depressing hotel. Breakfast area with too loud music and too cold and windy from AC:s. Breakfast a la carte with rather small selection and price is higher than quality. Music from bar until late at night disturbed sleep.

Rooms were generously sized, with high ceilings and all the amenities. Dinner at Temple Court was wonderful, large menu, tasty & very nice sized portions. Our waiter recommended the Hen of the Woods mushrooms as a side dish & an ice cream style desert. They were both of the best we've ever had!! The Beekman is highly recommended! Read less

Have continued to stay at the Beekman anytime I'm in the city for work or personal. It is one of my favorite hotels with an incredible bar and staff. I wanted to particularly point out Bianca at the front desk on this most recent visit, as she went above and beyond with her customer service and helping extend my check out. This hotel is gorgeous. Rooms are very old school European vibe, and bar had great drinks. We will be staying again.

The staff was accommodating and attentive (even when I got locked out of my room in my pajamas lol). I would recommend staying here if you get the opportunity! Read less
