The hotel

Rubbing shoulders with the political bigwigs of Washington DC, The Mayflower is just a few blocks from the city’s most famous address, the White House. It’s a landmark in its own right though, welcoming guests for more than 90 years and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, its supersized and super-opulent marble lobby would befit any visiting statesman. Its dining venue would suit dignitaries too – EDGAR Bar & Kitchen is all edgy masculine styling, high-end drinks and cocktails, and American brasserie favourites with an upscale twist. Luckily, its fitness centre is open 24/7 to work off all the treats and tipples – although, you’re better off getting out and exploring all the landmarks, museums, and galleries within a stroll of your doorstep, from Smithsonian museums to world-class shopping magnets, or hopping on the subway just around the corner.

Clean and bright and a great central spot for our daily walks to the many sites and historical monuments… Short walk to Georgetown was cool and we enjoyed the easy back and forth ride from Reagan International! Highly recommend the classic Mayflower! Read less

The rooms are small. There’s no seating in our room. Just the bed and a desk chair. The coffee machine was dirty and would only provide one cup of coffee. There’s no place to put a drink except the desk. Beautiful setting, great historical ambience, but as a practical and comfortable hotel, I won’t be coming back.

For such as storied institution, the Mayflower comes up short in too many ways. The room was fine, with a wonderful view of rooftop machinery. The desk chair sat far too low to be functional. The water pressure too light to clean and the AC constantly struggling. Shadows of previous glory- the lobby and ballrooms, mentions of an executive lounge… Read more

The water pressure too light to clean and the AC constantly struggling. Shadows of previous glory- the lobby and ballrooms, mentions of an executive lounge (now non-existent). Overpriced laundry services, parking (use Spothero) and lack of amenities means I won’t stay here again. Read less

One of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had and definitely not worth the money. Did not observe my Bonvoy status which would have automatically provided an upgrade. When I happened to ask if there was an upgraded room available, the answer was yes. So why didn't this happen automatically as it should have? Front of the house staff was not courteous or welcoming, rooms were in "meh" condition, and when they completely bungled what should have been a simple transaction, the first line employees did not seem to care in the least. Noting that I escalated to managerial level and they *were* helpful. But why did I have to demand that? Why wasn't it offered when the first line clearly were out of their depth and unable to provide assistance to fix their error? All around disappointing experience. Would never stay there again.
