The hotel

Cape Town has plenty to offer when it comes to sightseeing, and The Commodore is perfectly placed for you to enjoy the V&A waterfront, Table Mountain, and Robben Island with ease. Upgrade to an Executive room to make the most of the views from your balcony on the top floor, or even to a King Suite if you want the extra space for your stay. The nautical theme runs throughout the hotel, from your room right through to the bar and restaurant, where you can enjoy fresh seafood and local wines. As you’re in the heart of the harbour, you don’t have to go far to find more restaurants and bars either, where you can while away sunny evenings in the oldest working harbour in South Africa.

A car came to pick us but we realized later in the evening that it was not a Uber but a car rental connnected with the hotel. When we were ready to go back from the restaurant to the hotel we called the car but we had to wait half an hour without any explication. In lack of an answer we called Uber who gave us a quotation of 50 zar (one way) Because our original car phoned us announcing his arrival we cancelled Uber. Finally back to the hotel he pretended from us another 220 zar. Totally 440 zar versus the 100 zar that we would have paid with Uber. Clearly a very bad and not fair deal and a strong unpleasant discussion with the hotel Read less

One of the best parts about this hotel is its super convenient location to the Waterfront. Just a few minutes walk and you're there! I walked back several times late in the evening and never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. The room was clean and well maintained, but had a very strange layout when it came to light switches and outlets. The only place I could find to charge my devices was a single accessible outlet all the way across the room on the far side of the desk. Thankfully it was just me and I could rotate through my electronics, but if you had more than one or two things to charge it might be a challenge! Excellent breakfast buffet. Hotel has a generator that kicks in during load shedding (which they post a schedule of in the lobby). The shortbread cookies with the tea/coffee in the room was a nice touch. Read less
