The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

Fantastic classy hotel. Nice restaurant REIGN downstairs for breakfast and dinner. Staff were attentive and friendly. Slightly expensive but really comfortable. No dislikes, very clean.

This is the place to stay in downtown Toronto. Central to everything with many of the finest restaurants within 10 minutes by cab or on foot. Old world charm and grace. Excellent service. Unless you're willing to pay $70! per night for valet parking, I suggest you park in the (very) nearby Royal Bank Plaza. Highly recommended hotel whenever you… Read more

My fiancé and I stayed at your iconic beautiful hotel and we were sooo disappointed - I’m not sure what the deal was with dj music throughout the hotel but it was awful, completely not the ambiance I was expecting. Breakfast the next morning was mediocre at best, we certainly never mind paying for a lovely meal - but the lack lustre presentation was underwhelming- my fiancé makes a better omelette. It was my birthday and we are recently engaged. We came from Vancouver and we’re so looking forward to a special stay at the Royal York - it did not deliver. The hotel itself certainly does but it’s all the little things that will make memories. Read less

We were sold on the idea of staying at a hotel with such a Rich History of class and elegance dating back to the golden era of Jazz . 1929! On May 4th 2024, When we arrived at the hotel we just wanted to intake it all in , have a cocktail and enjoy the ambience of the “grandest hotel” in the British Empire of 1929. We were so disappointed to have a DJ blaring boom boom music in the main lobby which we could not escape. This was a horrible experience. We didn’t even get to relax and have a cocktail because this garbage bombarbment of music was not escapable. I will be escalating my complaint to the Fairmont at a much higher level. Give your head a shake Royal York , remember who the “paying” guests are at your hotel. You really missed the mark on this one. Never again will I ever pay this kind of “hard working money” for this hotel again . Boooo ! Read less

Always ask if there are events going on, this is a crowded hotel!! If there is more than one conference or event, I would suggest looking elsewhere. I am sensitive to the crowds and would have liked a slightly quieter trip. Otherwise the hotel is very nice and the service is great. One other issue is that the entire hotel is very dark.
