There were more negatives than positives with my recent experience at Anantara Riverside Bangkok. My stay started off poorly when I arrived at the hotel front desk for check-in at about 1325hr. A front desk staff member sternly told me "Check-in is at 1500hr" and went back doing whatever she was doing. Whilst I am aware of the official check-in time, I was rather astonished with her attitude and her lack of effort to say it with a smile. Fortunately the hotel is connected to a small mall where I spent the next 1.5 hours for coffee. When I returned to check-in, the entire process took nearly half an hour to complete. The rooms were spacious and clean. Airconditioning was working great for Bangkok's weather in April. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the bathroom at all. Shower is in the tub which I think it's rather hazardous - especially for the elderly as the tub is rather slippery. Individual cold/hot water taps (not mixer) which could be dangerous for young children. The drainage was very poor in my case - I was in ankle-deep water by the time I finished my 7 minutes shower. When I reported this to the front desk, the response I got was "Yes, we are aware that some rooms have poor drainage." The breakfast was fantastic. Great varieties and choices. The spa at Anantara was heavenly. It is managed very professionally. The treatment selected was clearly explained and my 'health status info' that I completed was definitely reviewed (unlike a formality at most other spas) as the therapists checked with me again during the treatment. Anantara Riverside Bangkok is a mixed bag in my opinion. Would I return or recommend to my family and friends? Probably not. Read less
