The hotel

Waiting for your drinks to arrive as you laze on white sands, shaded by a coconut palm. Taking a dip in a lagoon pool among tropical plants and dining and drinking terraces. Stepping out on your balcony to soak in endless sea views before heading out for dinner. This may be the stuff of daydreams, but it’s the true island experience guests come to enjoy when staying at the adults-only Solana Beach. It does deliver a delicious cliché, but this hotel also comes with its own unique twists, like the nod to the sixties and seventies in your spacious guestroom, which is otherwise thoroughly modern. It also gives you the option to do absolutely nothing – or to pack your days with cycling, diving, snorkelling, and even complimentary glass-bottom boat trips, and your nights with island entertainment and meals in three delectable restaurants.

We went there for a dinner package. Everything was nicely organised and the surf and turf menu was delicious. Highly recommend. Special thanks to Yash, the assistant F&B manager, who organised everything greatly for a birthday celebration.

Just returned from an 11 night stay at Solana Beach. Here is my honest review: Good - Veena (Housekeeping) I loved her, so friendly with great cleaning standards for the room every day. Lovely swan on the bed and positive notes for the day. Thank you!! - Towels, slippers, robe and beach towels provided. - Scenery (gardens and the ocean front) around the hotel is beautiful. - The guys at the Boat House where the trips are arranged are great. - Glass bottom boat is well worth the trip, feeding the fish. - Reception arranged taxi for us to visit the capital, and it arrived within minutes. The chap was reasonable & helpful, he gave us his card in case we needed further taxis. - The mini fridge in your room is restocked everyday with Coke, Fanta, sprite and beers which are free of charge with all inclusive. - Rooms are very dated (decoration and furniture) but the room was very spacious and a huge bed is a positive. Bad - Staff Upselling the other restaurants/lobster/seafood when you’re trying to eat your food. - Ants on tables, birds in the food baskets. - We had three pushy hagglers on separate occasions from the beach. They approach you on your sun beds outside your room to buy jewellery and trips, made me not want to sit out there anymore. - Need closer pool toilets, it was closer to go back to our room. - 12:00 Lunch was late a few times, having to wait outside. Other times the doors were open, but the food wasn’t ready so had to wait at the table as the food wasn’t out yet. - Signing a bill every time for items which are free with the all inclusive package is very annoying, having to wait around for a bill every time you have food or drink. Other - If your room is situated in Block 1. ear plugs are required if you want an early night as it’s very close to the entertainment - Only basic drinks are included within the all inclusive ‘package’, you have to pay extra for cocktails and spirits - All inclusive on the day of departure is to 3pm - Please be nice to the hotel dogs, some are very shy but are happy to see food. - If you take a walk along the beach to the supermarket (about 1.5mile walk from the hotel) there is many stray dogs on the way so take loads of food for them!! The room and the resort facilities were most comfortable and great value for money. We enjoyed the breakfast and buffet dinners we had on the two nights. We also took advantage of the onsite activities coordinated by staff and really enjoyed. Would stay here again and recommend to anyone looking where to stay (east coast) of Mauritius. Read less
