The hotel

You might feel like you’ve boarded a luxury cruise ship as you enter this distinctive boutique hotel, perched on the edge of the bay. The Argonaut’s original red brick walls, rich wood beams and ‘deck floors’ help to transport you back to San Francisco’s nautical heyday. At the same time, the plush décor provides all you need to settle in to your charming surrounds. Until, of course, those views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz lure you out to explore all that is Fisherman’s Wharf.

We stayed at the Argonaut Hotel in April 2024 and had a very enjoyable stay there. We stayed in a deluxe king on the 2nd floor which faced onto Jefferson Street. Yes, it wasn't quiet and there was street noise but we enjoyed laying in bed listening to a saxophonist whilst reading our book! It was also great for people watching! The room was clean, well appointed with a sofa, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge and with no signs of wear and tear. The room was cleaned every day without fail and the bed was really comfortable. The only slight negative was the noises from families that we heard from the next room or the room above ours, so the sound-proofing in the room wasn't great. Argonaut Hotel is located at the quieter-end of Fisherman's Wharf but it is close to some really nice restaurants and bars, shops, a CVS, the tram stop, Ghiadelli Square and walkable to Pier 39, Lombard Street etc where it is more busier and touristy. It suited us because we could choose when we wanted to be in the hustle and bustle. Thank you for a great stay Read less

My wife and I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the sea and Golden Gate Bridge. It was for our honeymoon. And it was absolutely perfect. The room was wonderful and well kept. We took a room with a view of the sea, which also had a view of the bridge, and the start point turn table for the cable car, which was great to have on our doorstep. Everything we needed was on our doorstep, and right in the hotel is a fantastic restaurant and a wine tasting bar! Which we took full advantage of. We walked, cable car’d and UBER’d our way around San Francisco from here, it felt rather like we were in the perfect spot for our honeymoon. We plan to come back sometime in the future… same room if possible! 11/10 for the hotel and lovely helpful staff. Read less

We stayed one night after our long transatlantic flight and liked everything about it so much we re arranged our trip to spend our last night in california there. The hotel has a perfect location right beside the beach and we loved to walk along the shore and watch the swimmers and boats. The staff were fabulous at helping me re book our second night and, as it was my birthday they had put a card and wine in the room for me when we arrived- so unexpected and just a lovely touch! The staff called when the room was ready ( before the official check-in time), the car was parked for us and delivered to us when we needed to leave, the bar outside with fires burning was a great place for excellent cocktails! And we had a really excellent dinner in the blue mermaid to celebrate my birthday. The room was simple and spacious and the way it has been renovated from an old building was very clever and I really liked the nautical theme throughout. The bed was huge and very comfortable. I absolutely loved staying at the Argonaut. On our last morning, while we had a lovely breakfast, Tenzin printed out our boarding passes, super efficient and extremely professional person. He couldn't have been more helpful. All the staff in the restaurant were similarly attentive and really friendly to us. Thank you for a great stay. I would love to be able to return one day. If you are heading to San Francisco we would highly recommend this hotel ...such a treat! Read less
