The hotel

Although it’s reopened with a new look, feel, and name, The Beacon Grand doesn’t want to ignore it’s past completely. The hotel pays a nod to the past, and homage to history of the city, with it’s original architechtual details – and it remains a social hotspot in the heart of Union Square. You’re in the centre of it all here, shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue is right opposite, the famous Powell Street Cable Car trundles right past the door of the hotel, and you’re right on the steps of the Theatre District – where will you start?! Well if you're not sure the 'Social Hosts' are on hand to give you insider tips. The rooms offer high ceilings and signature design, with a gel foam mattress that’ll ensure you have no problem getting to sleep. Beacon lounge is the heart of the hotel, acting as a communal living room by day and a lively gathering spot by night. Enjoy a whiskey or cocktail with live music at the weekends. Or if you fancy something a bit more exclusive, you’re one secret door away from the Hidden Library where vintage bourbons and classic cocktails are serviced just to your taste. It’s an iconic hotel that you can’t miss with the glistening of a rooftop star – so make sure you don’t miss out on seeing the inside too.

Best hotel in San Francisco. The Beacon Grand was the perfect place to stay for my family and me. It's in a central and safe location near lots of great shops and restaurants. The Powell St. cable car stops right in front, which was convenient and fun. The rooms at the Beacon Grand are gorgeous. Everything from the paint color to the bathroom fixtures. Big windows to let in lots of sunlight when we wanted it, and very effective blackout shades for when we wanted to sleep in. Everything was so crisp and clean and new. I miss the pillows! The staff was wonderful too. I have a chronic knee injury that flared up while there. The guest relations manager saw me limping around and got me in to see a doctor just one block away who even took my insurance. Within just two hours I had a knee brace and a prescription that let me continue enjoying my vacation. Everything at the Beacon Grand was excellent and I look forward to staying again next time I'm back in San Francisco! Read less

Great hotel, shame I’m still waiting for the refund of my security deposit a week after checking out. Contacted guest services and reception, still nothing. Hopefully someone will reach out after reading this review. Tarnishes what was a very pleasant stay.

My husband and I stayed in the jr. suite for our anniversary and it was absolutely amazing! The entire hotel has recently been completely remodeled and they did a fantastic job. It has a mix between a high end hotel and a friend's mansion type of vibe. Hmm, I wish I had a friend who has a mansion. Anyway, the staff is top notch, the food and… Read more

If you want to really treat yourself, book a room here, dress up a bit and enjoy being pampered. Read less

Helpful and friendly staff, nice location to walk everywhere and easy access to public transportation, as well. Hotel is pretty and rooms are small but nicely kept. A bit loud in the rooms, but overall a nice stay and I recommend this hotel if you're staying in Union Square area.

Very impressive lobby, bar and breakfast room. All staff were efficient and helpful from the luggage porters, to reception and room service staff. This is an older building, an although renovated with good quality furnishings is perhaps not as crisp as a modern hotel. Our room was very comfortable, perhaps a little on the small side, lovely facilities and characterful bathroom but better attention could be paid to the paint finishes in the bathroom and in particular on the ceiling. Breakfast was tasty, service a little slow and very expensive even for 4 not 5 star hotel, nearly $100 for 2! Appreciated hotel keeping luggage for us as flight was later in the day. Disappointed Star Light lounge on roof wasn't open. Would definitely stay again if we could get a reasonable room rate but would eat out for breakfast based on value for money Read less
