Mammoth Mountain Inn

The hotel

Built in 1957, Mammoth Mountain Inn was Mammoth's first ski-resort accommodation and the only slope-side hotel at Mammoth's Main Lodge. Today it offers activities year round — in summer there's hiking, biking and outdoor adventures, and in winter it's a core skiers' and snowboarders' paradise, with the ultimate entry point to the slopes. Ski to the hotel at the end of the day and you can soon be blowing the steam off your hot toddy. Take a dip in the outdoor pool or one of the indoor or outdoor hot tubs. The Yodler dining terrace is the ideal place for a light snack on a sunny day and the great après-ski atmosphere in the Dry Creek Lounge is further enhanced by regular live music.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Threw out bag of dirty laundry

Apr 24, 2024 Mike J

Convenience to the lifts is an understatement. Room was very comfortable, and remodeled. My only complaints is that my dirty laundry was taken and presumably thrown out. The clothes bag was not near the trash can. No big deal, but the Asst. Mgr. said the housekeeper did not throw it out and I must have lost it in the car. Very disappointed… Read more

The clothes bag was not near the trash can. No big deal, but the Asst. Mgr. said the housekeeper did not throw it out and I must have lost it in the car. Very disappointed that they put the blame on me and would not reimburse for the cost which was only around $120 to buy what I lost. I think it was an accident and not deliberate, but still putting the blame on me? Read less

Location, Location, Location.....Arrive at the M.M.I. entrance and unload your gear, your skis/snowboards and boots remain at the (inclusive) valet service in the main lobby during your stay. I park my vehicle in the underground parking and not move it until my trip is over. I eat breakfast every morning at the M.M.I., lunch on the slopes, and dinner at the M.M.I. or the Yodler restaurant (across the parking lot). After breakfast, a few steps to the lobby and valet room, put on ski boots (in lobby), grab skis and walk a couple dozen steps to slopes. At the end of day, ski down to lodge, leave skis/boots with valet, put on street shoes and go (usually to hot tub). The management is excellent, with a friendly family feel, and not by accident...... A decade ago I had the opportunity to meet the (then) General Manager, Luis Villanueva, who has a stellar history of managing large Hotels in the U.S. and Europe. This man Loves his work and it shows! He is currently V.P. of lodging for Mammoth, and his customer service and work ethics are in play at M.M.I. Tom Eby, Weston Mc Carty, Brian Murray, Katelynn Burnside, and Hudson Barber are managers/staff members that go out of their way for guests. Read less

We make 3-4 ski trips per season and if we can’t stay at the MMI, we change our plans to adjust to make sure we stay there. The staff at Mammoth Mountain Inn make us feel like family with their warmth and attention. Special mention to Tom Eby, Katelynn Burnside, Brian Murray, Hudson Barber, and last, but certainly not least, Weston McCarty. Thanks… Read more

Customer service is excellent! They do their best to accommodate your needs. Hudson helped us extend our stay another night on a weekend and gave us a really fair deal to compensate for missing first night of the trip due to road closure. They may not always be able to do it, but this situation turned into a win-win for everybody. This was our… Read more

I hesitate to review because I don't want anything to really change at the Inn. We LOVE staying here because it's at the base of Main Lodge at the ski area and the convenience is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and clean. You can't beat the location for skiing but know you have to drive into town for anything if you don't plan to eat at the… Read more
I hesitate to review because I don't want anything to really change at the Inn. We LOVE staying here because it's at the base of Main Lodge at the ski area and the convenience is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and clean. You can't beat the location for skiing but know you have to drive into town for anything if you don't plan to eat at the restaurant onsite. The food was good at the restaurant and the staff was nice but they were clearly understaffed (post huge storm) which was understandable. The only negative is the place is older, so know that. The tub/shower inserts creak when you use them which is disconcerting but it's safe and clean. Noise from the rooms above can be distracting but overall it's a great place to stay. There is a pool, a hot tub outside and 3 smaller indoor ones that's awfully nice after a long day of skiing. I certainly hope the Inn doesn't get torn down and turned into a super expensive village because it keeps the old Mammoth Ski Area vibe alive and it would be shame to make skiing even more unaffordable.
