Lanzerac Manor & Winery

Stellenbosch, Winelands

The hotel

Seemingly lost in the vineyards and foothills of Jonkershoek Valley, this hideaway is wrapped in hypnotically beautiful scenery – but is just five minutes from the historic town of Stellenbosch. Since the first vines were planted more than 300 years ago, Lanzerac Hotel & Spa has become a haven for oenophiles. And its legacy lives on, with its ancient oak trees, historic wine collection, original design features, and time-honoured viticulture techniques still used on this working wine farm. You can drink in vineyard views from your elegant room, which opens onto the estate’s gardens. And you can drink in the world-famous Lanzerac wines in the tasting room, after a tour of the bottle-lined wine cellar. On the off-chance you fancy a break from the wine, you can indulge in spa treatments or relax in the gardens with a picnic from the gourmet deli.

We were very fortunate to stay at this amazingly beautiful Hotel during our tour of South Africa. The property, which borders the Estate Winery of the same name, is well kept, and beautiful. The rooms are breathtakingly gorgeous! We have never stayed in such an opulent room on any of our previous travels...words can not describe how amazing the decor, and amenities were! Our room, as were many others, was decorated in the French Provincial style. It was just over the top fabulous! The bed was comfortable, and be sure, if your room has one, to take advantage of the huge claw footed soaker tub in your bathroom. The food at the hotel was quite good too, with an open dinning room. Simply an experience we will never forget! Read less

Our luxurious room faced a courtyard, it was beautifully decorated with a large shower and clawfoot tub. The breakfast each morning was fresh, plentyfull and the service was excellent. Our trip was cancelled because of the Corona Virus but we were able to spend a few days at Lanzerac Hotel & Spa. The staff and accommodations were fabulous. They set up dinner for us at several different locations and a wine tour that was fabulous. We were not able to use the spa as we had to head home early. We would definitely stay at the… Read more

Very luxurious hotel of approx 55 rooms. It was bigger than we were expecting but we had a lovely room - decorated to a very high standard with a huge comfortable bed. Complimentary mini bar and snacks is a nice touch along with bottle of wine and chocolates. Breakfast was delicious with a very nice hot menu option. Gym is really good with stunning views next to the spa over the mountains. Spa was lovely and enjoyed some good massages. Deli has great food and they’ll package it up and send it up to the pool if that’s where you’re sitting. Great selection of cakes. Pool menu is limited and service is slow , as is the deli. Pool itself is gorgeous, big and refreshing. Hotel has beautiful grounds and very well kept gardens. We ate at taphius one night. It says it’s a casual dining option but it isn’t - they still serve the food in a very fancy way. One thing we didn’t love was all of the day visitors coming for wine tasting and lunch, wandering around the grounds and property - doesn’t make it feel very exclusive for hotel guests who have paid several hundred to stay there a night. Would be nice if they could create some more exclusive areas just for hotel guests eg a smaller deli/ bar. Did wine tasting but were a bit unimpressed by how slow the service was. Would recommend visiting tokara for a drink with a view. Read less

The only problem we had was the state of the private pool. Overall cleanliness of the hotel was excellent, but this doesn’t reflect the whole truth. The pool hadn’t been prepared and cleaned before our arrival. It was green with algae and covered in dead leaves. You couldn’t see the bottom. These were removed the following day and we assumed it… Read more

The pool hadn’t been prepared and cleaned before our arrival. It was green with algae and covered in dead leaves. You couldn’t see the bottom. These were removed the following day and we assumed it would also be treated and cleaned, alas no. Had to request that this was done. Given that when it was treated we still couldn’t use it because of the chemicals. Did manage to have one dip on our last day. Very disappointed with this aspect of the room. Read less
