Katathani Phuket Beach Resort

Phuket, Thailand

The hotel

In a secluded bay, overlooking a beach regarded as the most beautiful on Phuket, this is certainly an idyllic holiday choice. Soft golden sand to glide along, sunsets to admire, and, of course, beautiful accommodation, ranging from Junior Suites to those set back amongst trees and tropical flowers. Ideal for families as well as couples and groups of friends, spend the day lazing by the poolside – there are six to choose from – whilst the kids splash about in their own pool (they’ve got four!) Pampering pursuits include a full-service spa and a beauty salon, ensuring you look and feel your best. As well as lots of sports activities you can get involved in more cultural endeavours, take a Thai cooking class and learn how to carve those fancy fruit decorations or enjoy a workout whilst learning the art of Thai boxing. As we’ve said, this hotel is great for the youngsters too – whilst parents are busy snoozing under the shade of an umbrella, kids can head to their own private club, getting stuck into activities such as balloon painting, necklace making, clay sculpting and much much more. Finally, a word about those restaurants, there are several to choose from, serving Thai and Western delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s also La Scala for Italian cuisine and light music, plus several beach bars for an enticing tropical cocktail!

We only stayed one night as we were attending a wedding. The staff were very professional and the facilities and services were great. Looking forward to visiting this resort again in the future now that we have had a taste of it.

We stayed over the NYE period into January 10th with our 6 yo. Our first room backed onto a rear laneway and a 7/11 in the Atlantic Building (Garden View). It had two double beds but we changed across the hall for a much better room (Bhuri Wing) with king bed and couch made into our daughters bed. (Room 8116) Still Garden View but closest to the biggest and deepest pool on this side of the resort. This wing also has it's own lobby. Most people staying seemed to want to be close to the beach but this was a great spot for us. Beach was only a 2 min walk across a small road and a short walk to the breakfast area called Seacret, located on the beach at one end of the resort. Great views in the morning with the long boats anchoring out from the beach. It is slightly smaller than the breakfast area at the complete opposite end (Com Talay) and slightly less choice but much prettier and peaceful. We stayed 9 nights so tried both for a change. The bathroom was quite dated. Big chunky saloon type toilet door. Round shower room. Apparently they aren't all like that. A/C was amazing I must say. Complimentary bottled water was always topped up and rooms were always clean. Kids Club was a nice change for our 6yo. Some things she wanted to do we had to pre book. Not a massive size but carerers were attentive and friendly. With approx 7 pools there is something for everyone. The adults only pool didn't seem to be for adults only and the resort should have a strict 'No saving sun lounges policy. People were out there at 7.30am saving them only to rock up later in the day to use them for an hour then disappear. When done they leave their pool towels on the lounges so no one else can use them. Pool towels are re stocked in the rooms each night. My biggest tip is to be friendly to the staff. Learn a few words in Thai. The Security & breakfast staff are so friendly if you just learn Hello and Thank you, it goes a long way. Some nationalities are so rude and demanding it was awful to watch around breakfast and to the locals in general. We didn't eat at the resort restaurants as Kata Noi has one or two good places to go and only a 15min walk up and over a hill is Kata with even more choice. Walk along the beach to the stairs, it's a much better walk than along the road. Cabs or Tuk tuks are pretty much non negotiable. 200baht ($10AUS) to Kata. 300baht to Karon. A cab ride to Big Buddha and Wat Chalong Temple is 1500baht. The driver will wait an hour at each which is enough. Go early to beat the heat. Elephant riding is to be strongly discouraged. Feeding only. Amorns tailors came recommended in the strip but they didn't have the material I wanted so ended up at Kata Universal Collection in Kata near the Kata Universal Resort entrance. Mr.Chris was accomodating, friendly and willing to negotiate within reason. (Mob 0836442541) Great resort, well kept grounds and best staff. Read less

My partner and I only stayed at Katathani for 1 night for a wedding. The highlights were the bed (so comfy and a king deluxe!) the 6 pools and the private beach. The staff were also great with the organising and on-site management of the wedding. The only con was how busy the resort can get. But we went in peak season so that wasnt a surprise.

Travelling with 2 kids 4&6 years. The resort was perfect, very safe, a lot of fun for the kids and a beautiful beach. Many different pools so the kids don’t get bored, mini market on the hotel with good prices and superb staff.
