Virgin Holidays' view

Edmonton is a young city with hip start-ups, cool cafes and locals that love any excuse to go out on the town. From June through August, the sun can rise as early as 5:00am, and sets as late as 10:00pm, so that’s 17 hours of vitamin D and plenty of time to pack in warm-weather activities. Jasper is known for being one of the most picturesque resorts and this easy-going alpine town has locals that treat you like long-lost pals, plus there's always something amazing and outdoorsy to do. The mountain town's got a lot to love: historic charm, super beautiful natural surroundings, and all the amenities you could ask for. There’s a reason everybody’s heard of Banff.

Stop 1: Edmonton

Edmonton offers that Downtown buzz that city-lovers enjoy. With world class food, friendly locals, a large choice of hotels and lots of culture and art, the city is a great gateway to The Rockies. Enjoy sampling different cuisine in some of the city’s coolest, most creative restaurants and bars.

Days 1–3: Enjoy Edmonton

Enjoy time exploring the city and getting over your jetlag before your adventure continues in The Rockies. If you feel the need for shopping, experience West Edmonton Mall. This Edmonton icon houses 800 stores and services, 110 eating establishments, nine themed attractions, spas, a dinner theatre, fantastic nightclubs and a full-scale casino — all under one roof. Alternatively you could simply relax, explore downtown and visit the local breweries.

Stop 2: Jasper

Jasper features some of the most beautiful, untouched wilderness in the world. If you're into outdoor activities, Jasper is an adventurer's playground. If you like to relax, there's no shortage of quiet activities for you to enjoy, with spectacular views on all sides. Jasper’s got brewpubs, cafés and restaurants that serve up local game like bison, so you just know it’ll make the perfect basecamp for whatever you get up to in Jasper National Park.

Days 3–5: Enjoy Jasper

Enjoy time exploring Jasper National Park, whether you choose to hike, bike or simply explore by car stopping to admire the views. Visit Maligne Lake, the second-largest glacier-fed lake in the world and marvel at its azure-blue waters. Experience the Jasper SkyTram, the longest and highest aerial tramway in the Rockies! Then at night marvel at the awe-inspiring dark skies.

Stop 3: Banff

Bijou Banff seems even more pocket-sized thanks to the cosmic scale of the national park cocooning it. But don’t let its size deceive you; Banff delivers big on attractions. It was the discovery of the natives’ ‘healing’ hot springs by railway workers in 1883, which turned this off-map basin into a crowd-puller – and a national park. The lively streets of downtown Banff are lined with top-class restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as a vibrant range of art galleries and museums.

Day 5: Drive to Banff

Take a leisurely drive from Jasper to Banff, enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Icefields Parkway (3-4 hours).

Days 5–8: Enjoy Banff

Most come for the mountains, which lure hikers and bikers in summer. But its’ more demure delights include simply soaking in the Banff Upper Hot Springs, riding the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, to amble along its peak-hugging boardwalk, or taking scenic trips to beauty spots like Moraine Lake and the Columbia Icefield. Stroll along the Bow River and visit the iconic Fairmont Banff Springs hotel, known as the ‘Castle in the Rockies’.

Day 8: Fly home

Enjoy a final morning in Banff before driving back to Calgary Airport for flight home with Air Canada.
