Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

Bahamas, Caribbean

The hotel

No expense has been spared; no indulgence left out; no luxury thought too extravagant – the designers of the Baha Mar resort have included every bell and whistle to create the ultimate Bahamian resort. And who’d have thought you could better the beautiful white sands that Grand Hyatt Baha Mar reclines on? As well as the temptingly soft shoreline and Caribbean waters, staying here gives you the key to all manner of experiences and entertainment from golf, tennis, pools, and spa treatments, to feeding turtles at The Sanctuary. But it’s not all swimsuits and sportswear here, there’s plenty of opportunity to glam up by joining the high rollers at the Caribbean’s largest casino – a glitzy wonderland with floor-to-ceiling sea views. Las Vegas has nothing on Baha Mar.

We had a wonderful time at the Baha Mar for a work conference, as a couple and with our children. We give it 5 stars and would go back because it’s wonderful. We went for a conference and brought our children who range from 3-12 years of age. There is a lot to do for families, both on the beach and at the pools. Kids never seem to interfere with the couples-only genre due to the adult only pools that are out of site and separated enough by landscaping and location from the family pools. That is a HUGE plus for anyone looking for a romantic vacation because the resort is set up for maximum privacy for adults without children. We have been to Sandals down the street and Atlantis and found Baha Mar to exceed both in many aspects, one factor being that Baha Mar can successfully accommodate couples and families simultaneously. Rooms are clean with good a/c. Nice views. Mini bar had the usual high prices and the cable TV didn’t include all the channels but we weren’t there to watch it. Elevators are plentiful and in good working order. Fitness club is LARGE and has ample equipment. It even had two bikes set up on a balcony overlooking the ocean. Talk about fabulous! Both the hotel room TVs and the treadmill TVs are smart-TVs so you can log into your accounts with ease. The grounds of Baha Mar are lovely and clean. The staff was enjoyable and many, or should I say most, went above and beyond their job to help us find what we were searching for, including walking us to restaurants across the property. Now for the FOOD— Before we departed, we read reviews about the sticker shock. So we packed a plentiful amount of snacks and goodies for both us and the kids in a suitcase. This is a smart idea, especially if you have picky eaters. One of our children needs a nut butter sandwich daily and we are glad we packed a jar as we didn’t see any menus with PBJ. Also—the in-room hotel iPads and restaurant lists include eateries that include kid menus. This helped us on the nights that we ate out with our children. Not only did it save us money, but it allowed our children to eat items with which they were familiar. The price tags of the food were NOT out of the ordinary for a resort. The VAT and 15% tip were added after the prices on all food and beverages. Yes they’re higher than the States but it wasn’t unreasonable. I would compare the prices to eating out in NYC and any other big city with fine dining. The food was surprisingly tasty in all the places we ate (note: we didn’t try any buffets). The food trucks were fun and the prices were higher than usual but so were the sizes. Consider a hot dog was 2-3x the size of a normal ballpark dog and the bag of chips included 2-3 servings. We don’t gamble. The casino smelled of smoke and was unavoidable if you stayed in the Grand Hyatt. Would’ve liked to avoid it but had to walk through it for the easiest path to the pools, restaurants and the beach. The kids club was tiny and $60 flat rate for 1-4 hours, per child, no discounts for multiples. No food served except for a snack during the visit so plan on sending your child with snacks and beverages. Definitely book Baha Mar. Great service, location, food, and enjoyment. Read less

Great location very close to the airport. We used the hotel transportation for an added cost and didn't have to wait on arrival. Both drivers were super friendly! This service was well worth it. You just can't beat a white sandy beach and clear blue water when traveling to the GH Baha Mar. The beach is very well maintained and the pools are immaculate. The casino is large with a good variety of both table games and machines. The casino staff was friendly. We were warned that food and beverage can be expensive so we knew what to expect. The buffet in the East Tower for breakfast even for it's cost was very good. The service staff was very accommodating and friendly and there were tons of choices. You should note that every food and beverage purchase is subject to VAT and a service charge (still not sure if this was an additional fee or the added tip). Our room was a 12th Floor balcony facing the ocean. Word of warning, the ocean isn't that close to the hotel and you are looking over buildings and then the pools before you see the ocean. Our room was clean and sufficiently sized. I used the fitness facility for most of my trip. It was well equipped with weight machines, free weights, spin bikes, rowers, yoga mats etal. The space is clean and well stocked with towels and water. Beautiful view overlooking the pools and beach from the gym. The common areas were for most part very nice. However, some areas look like they could use some paint and carpet cleaning. The carpet in the hallway leading to our room was clearly dirty. Overall we were very happy with our experience at GH Baha Mar. One word of warning. Check you bill before you leave!!! Our complete deposit was not credited to either room that we had booked and paid in advance for. Fortunately I had a copy of my payment receipt for reference and the issue was corrected. Read less

This resort was awesome, the rooms were very nice and clean, I lost count on how many pools we visited, the casino was way more than I expected and the staff was amazing! Only issue we had was we couldn't seem to access the mini bar. However there were plenty of bars on the property.
