Gran Hotel Manzana Kempinski

Havana, Cuba

Virgin rating

The hotel

Part of the fabric of hypnotically beautiful Old Havana, this Grande Dame of the city sits among its champagne-coloured buildings and World Heritage sites. Virtually at its feet you’ll find iconic El Floridita, where Hemingway used to hang out – but reach its rooftop and you’re rewarded with city views, with El Capitolio and Central Park two of your closest neighbours. You’ll have infinite opportunities to soak up those city scenes while you’re up there, with an al fresco sitting room, poolside cocktail bar, panoramic restaurant, and urban-chic pool, whose glazed screen separates you from the sky beyond. There’s no mistaking your setting downstairs either – with the elegant rooms’ French windows framing the city, and the light-flooded cigar lounge fringed with eight balconies, so you can gaze out over Central Park as you sip Cuban rum, while the Cigar Sommelier hand-rolls cigars.

Fantastic look on the Capitol and all Havana. Good for sunset, romantic. Coctals are more expansive than usually but worth to be here. Also music is in the evening. It is not good when it is windy. During our visit was some party and it was more exciting.

Ok so we didnt stay at this hotel but visited as we were close by in another hotel so this review is based on drinks and food. You can only pay with credit card at this hotel if you are a tourist which means they carge you nearly double the price on every item as they give the same exchange rate as the banks, 30 pesos per 1 pound ,( very bad if you order alot) We went to the roof terece and had drinks and food and was serve by a lovely cuban lady who was very helpful and the barstaff were excellent. We decided to revisit the hotel a day later to have another drink at level 2 in the hotel and the barstaff tried ripping me off as we oredered 2 beers each costing 8 dollars but when he gave me the bill which was 27 dollars so i asked why he charged me alot extra and he never had a answer , basically tried ripping me off so i declined the drinks and left. Very bad for tourists, will not recommend going to level 2 bar. The roof bar was nice and drinks were good but this needs to change if they want tourists to revisit. Read less

Location is ideal, right next to the Capitolo. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the pool and bar are very nice with a stunning view. The only negative was the food was fairly basic and the pool was often noisy during the day which occasionally spolied the overall relaxed atmosphere.
