Large hotel with multiple restaurants, but cleanliness is poor, service levels across is poor, it’s a typical government style management, very casual and don’t care attitude. I also stayed later at Gran hotel Mandanna kempenski, which has a perfect location and a new modern classic building, but in Cuba don’t expect high levels of service or too friendly staff. Read less

We stayed with a group of 30 at the Melia Cohiba for 5 nights in December 2019. The staff was friendly and attentive. The lobby was beautiful and the breakfast buffet was excellent. I hope the travel Jan is removed so more Americans can visit Cuba giving them more business so they can make the needed improvements to this property. Read less

I stayed in the Melia Cohiba with my girlfriend for two nights: 27th-29Nov 2019. Although the room was impressive for the price, the service was so terrible we were constantly wondering if we had done anything wrong. Being no stranger to hotels of four stars and above, I kept second guessing myself and looking up whether our reservation was indeed in that hotel. I had chosen the last two days there because it was the end of our trip and we were tired, hoping for some comfort. On the first day, we found the bathtub was dirty, with hair. We wanted to make our way to Old Havana using their bus. We found the bus travelled to and from old havana maybe 5 time a day, which for a 15 min ride you'd figure a 5 star hotel would have more frequent buses. We asked the person in charge for the schedule and information, and headed to the bus stop, where we were told that the person we just talked to was supposed to give us a ticket for the bus, but he hadn't. I was first confused, then irritated. Why would he not have mentioned anything about the tickets when we were clearly going to get on the bus? The second day we had lunch by the pool. When the waitress brought our beers, she spilled some of it in our plates after opening them, clearly saw this happen and didn't even bother to clean it. Just walked off. We had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for our food and bill, when we looked at the bar all the staff was just standing around chatting and laughing. We asked for an ashtray and they said they had 'ran out'. There couldn't be more than a dozen people in this entire area of the hotel, which was clearly made for at least 200. We saw this type of behaviour in several areas of the hotel, where staff would just be standing around, randomly setting up tables instead of serving clients, or straight up saying 'right away' and never coming back. On the last day, I got really bad food poisoning and my girlfriend got shouted at in the cadecas when trying to get money out. The woman in the cadecas THREW THE PASSPORT AT HER. They would not let me come in and translate because there could only be one person at a time, and the man guarding the door was clearly implying he will use physical force to remove us from the area. Thank god we were taking our flight that day. Long story short, this "5 star" hotel is worse than any hotel, hostel, casa particular or air bnb I have ever stayed in my life, at 29 years of age. It seemed everyone was trying to upset us for no reason. Avoid it at all costs. Read less

We stayed for three nights. Our room was clean, spacious, bright, and came with with a magnificent ocean view. The bed was comfortable and the a/c worked very well. The staff were friendly and helpful, including with regard to obtaining taxis. We felt safe. A currency exchange at the front desk offered reasonable rates and convenience. The pool deck is sunny and large and well-maintained. There are relaxing lounges around the lobby with drinks available for reasonable prices. The concierge service assisted with the arrangement of a worthwhile day trip to Vinales. The Malecon is directly across the street to the north, and there is a nice little vegetarian restaurant across the street to the south. This is one of the better hotels in Havana. However, it is not perfect. It is away from the city centre (although only a short taxi ride away) and there seemed to be not much to do directly around the hotel. Our large bathtub was equipped with jacuzzi jets that unfortunately did not work and permitted water to leak out. There seemed to be very little in the way of vegan food available in the hotel, including at breakfast. Although imperfect, we enjoyed our visit and would certainly return to this hotel. Read less
