NH Capri

Havana, Cuba

The hotel

Designed by Cuban architect Jose Canaves in 1956, the NH Capri embodies all that was glorious about the decade whilst still offering the ultimate in contemporary comfort. Once the playground of the famous and the hedonistic, including the very dashing Errol Flynn, it is still considered to be one of Havana’s three most important buildings. The location is pretty good too — just a short walk from the seafront as well as shops, bars and restaurants galore. For great views, head on up to the 18th floor, not only will you be rewarded with panoramic city vistas, you’ll be able to splash about in the rooftop pool too! Azul Bar is also on high, located on the 17th floor, so again feast your eyes whilst sipping on a mojito, one time city resident Ernest Hemingway’s favourite tipple! Guest rooms are a delight, offering a good range of mod cons whilst still retaining that all-important fifties feel. For sumptuous dining, AnaCapri offers buffet delights on book a table at La Florentina for authentic Italian cuisine, fine wines and an atmosphere that’s electric.

This is my second stay at the NH Capri. Great location in proximity to Hotel National, Malacon Blvd, a short ride in a classic car to old town Havana and close to several restaurants and bars. The higher floors 12 and up have better views. Room 907 is right next to the elevators so one can hear them glide up and down. Breakfast has a good variety of food both hot n cold, pastries, fresh pressed juices. The rooftop bar has tasty snacks and drinks, the pool is refreshing, and great views too. A shout out for Julio, massage therapist. He gave a great professional relaxing massage, good pressure, worked all areas, a great way to get the travel kinks out and adjust to jet lag. A lot of massage therapists back home focus on the back for most of the hour then rush the rest of the body, whereas Julio gave equal focus to the whole body which made it balanced. Hugo in the lobby was helpful in providing directions to a nearby rum shop and souvenir shop, and provided an umbrella as I ventured out into the rain to get to said rum shop. Success! Read less

Just got back from our Honeymoon in Cuba. When we were in Havana we stayed in the NH Capri. From beginning to end the team at the hotel couldn't do enough for us and was the perfect start to our honeymoon. We stayed 4 nights and were extremely pleased that Virgin had recommended this hotel to us. From the moment we arrived we knew it was the right choice. On arrival you are greeted by two very helpful members of the team at the bottom of the steps leading up to the hotel. They took our bags into the lobby and prepared to take them upstairs whilst you check in. The lobby is impressive and has aircon which is very important when you have been walking arround in the heat. The team on the desk are very welcoming, informative and acknowledged we were on our honeymoon as soon as they knew our names. We were handed a refreshing drink before being taken up to our room. On the door was a lovely banner saying happy honeymoon and in the room was a bottle of Cava and some sweet treats waiting for us. The room was nicely decorated, clean, large, bright and well made up if a little dated but this didn't matter tbh. It had a fantastic view of the sea and the Hotel National where we could see the sun set. We had breakfast every morning at the hotel. Each time we were greeted by Suny who made the biggest impression on us. She was very smiley and happy but not in an annoying way. She was very personable. It was a buffet breakfast with lots of choice, there were lots of team members and had quite a few stations. Including fresh, omelette, smoothie and coffee where you could ask for what you wanted. You could also have pastries, pancakes, cheese, meats, fruit, cereals, Cava and selection of breads. Everything was very fresh and really tasty. We did come across some strange juices but I think that's just because we aren't used to them. I am a vegetarian and was well catered for. I don't drink cows milk so alternatives would of been good but to he honest I didn't ask if anything else was available and overall it's usually not something that is widely available. On the last day we had Salsa lessons led by Suny. This was lots of fun and we would definitely recommend having a lesson or two when you visit. Although we had never done salsa before by the end of the hour lesson my husband and I managed to dance along, together, using the steps that Suny had taught us. Also during our stay we met Avianna, who welcomed us in the lobby when we passed each other and asked us if we needed anything. She also booked us in for a cocktail making session at the bar which is a must do activity! The rest of the team along with the bar manager Julio all came together in the bar to help us make a cocktail for one another. A great way to start the evening. During our stay we also met Adrian, Javier and Yudi. Thank you to the whole team you made our stay extremely special and would highly recommend. Read less
