NH Capri

Havana, Cuba

The hotel

Designed by Cuban architect Jose Canaves in 1956, the NH Capri embodies all that was glorious about the decade whilst still offering the ultimate in contemporary comfort. Once the playground of the famous and the hedonistic, including the very dashing Errol Flynn, it is still considered to be one of Havana’s three most important buildings. The location is pretty good too — just a short walk from the seafront as well as shops, bars and restaurants galore. For great views, head on up to the 18th floor, not only will you be rewarded with panoramic city vistas, you’ll be able to splash about in the rooftop pool too! Azul Bar is also on high, located on the 17th floor, so again feast your eyes whilst sipping on a mojito, one time city resident Ernest Hemingway’s favourite tipple! Guest rooms are a delight, offering a good range of mod cons whilst still retaining that all-important fifties feel. For sumptuous dining, AnaCapri offers buffet delights on book a table at La Florentina for authentic Italian cuisine, fine wines and an atmosphere that’s electric.

Room was spacious and clean. Couple of small issues with the shower head attachment being broken and the TV screen just about to go on the blink however we didn’t report these as we were only there the night so would be unfair of me to mark the hotel down for this. Loved the rooftop pool, especially after a long, hot day walking round Havana. The views across the Malecon were fabulous. Dinner was a buffet style and was ok, breakfast was buffet style again and we really enjoyed it. We had drinks at the rooftop bar after dinner and enjoyed the band who were playing. Would definitely stay here again if we visited Havana again. Read less

There could be some small improvements such as having WIFI free 24 hours instead of buying WIFI vouchers all the time which cost 1.50 CUC that only last for an hour. The carpet in the corridor on the 10th floor need some improvement. Overall we had a good stay. Read less

We hope you have as much fun in Havana as we all did. Vedado is a great neighborhood; the business center of La Habana, and a great (and comfortable) home base for all the sights and sounds of this wonderful city. The hotel staff goes out of its way to help everyone. When you are here we hope you get to meet Suni, who went out of her way to… Read more

My husband and I stayed at the NH Capri for three nights a couple of weeks ago. The hotel staff were professional and polite, the cleaning staff do a thorough job. It seems as though the 14th floor is a bit tired and could do with re-carpeting. There is also a bit of damp here and there but the cleaning staff seem to be keeping on top of it so… Read more

It seems as though the 14th floor is a bit tired and could do with re-carpeting. There is also a bit of damp here and there but the cleaning staff seem to be keeping on top of it so that guests can have a great stay. The rooftop pool is quite small but in the evening it is pleasant to have a drink at and listen to the entertainment. We enjoyed the location of the hotel and were able to find the old town with ease by walking and getting a taxi back. Be careful of people hanging around outside offering to show you around. One guy was showing us round and we ended up in a cooperative which turned out to be someone’s house, trying to sell us cigars. Only go with your registered tour operator of choice. There is a stand in the hotel with plenty of information on tours and activities. Buffet breakfast was great and the welcome we received in the restaurant was lovely. A good stay and we’d certainly come back. Read less
