Blau Varadero Hotel

Varadero, Cuba

The hotel

As if taking inspiration from the great pyramids, the designers of Blau Varadero cannily created a reclining hotel that captures as many ocean views as possible, and ensures everyone has a spacious balcony looking out over the water or gardens. By Varadero Beach, the atmosphere’s as laid back as the building, with oodles of space dedicated to relaxation and a huge lagoon pool centrepiece, with Jacuzzis, a pool bar, and a lounger and hammock-strung deck and garden. Only open to adults, all inclusive indulgence is the order of the day.

Virgin call this a luxury hotel. It is NOT. It is shabby, with terribly damaged, dirty and basic rooms. The local rep was completely useless and uninterested in sorting any problems. Complaining to Virgin whilst there and when we got home got a stonewall of "very sorry but we're not going to do anything about it". Last Virgin holiday I ever take… Read more

Complaining to Virgin whilst there and when we got home got a stonewall of "very sorry but we're not going to do anything about it". Last Virgin holiday I ever take - just appalling. Compared to the brochure description and images, it's borderline misrepresentation in my opinion... you have been warned! Read less

I rated this a 5/5 so that everyone that only looks at the positive reviews would see this! This was the WORST resort I have ever been to! I rated this a 5/5 so that everyone that only looks at the positive reviews would see this! This was the WORST resort I have ever been to! This was definitely NOT a 4.5 star hotel, I would give this hotel a solid 2 stars! Please do not waste your money here! The majority of the staff had horrible attitudes! The rooms were dirty and unkept. The night time manager David had absolutely no idea what he was doing and offered little to no resolution for the issues we had. The two women at the public relations desk were terrible and it was funny to hear one of them call herself a Christian when she was nothing but satanic. The room we got came with two beds, two beers, two colas but only one water bottle and when I asked for an additional water, they told us no “only one water per day” even though this is an “all-inclusive” resort. The food wasn’t the best, the rice was uncooked everyday I was there and the vegetables were over cooked. The desserts were disgusting and aside from the eggs and bacon the breakfast was seriously lacking. The servers were friendly and made the place a little more bearable but this resort is extremely outdated and is in serious need of a full body makeover, especially considering what they charge. I was bored to tears as there was nothing going on and little to no entertainment being offered. The only good thing about this place was the beach! Please do not waste your hard earned money here, you all deserve better! & to the management please do not respond to my review with fake apologies and lies to do better, actions speak louder than words! We chose a room with sea view and the all-inclusive option. The beach was the highlight. Other facilities included swimming pool, restaurants, bars and shows. There were also the gym room (free) and massage room (extra pay required). It isn’t the most modern hotel, but good value for money.
