Let me start by saying I’ve stayed at many resorts in the past, and have been to Cuba. My expectations weren’t very high to begin with! I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Let me start by saying I’ve stayed at many resorts in the past, and have been to Cuba. My expectations weren’t very high to begin with! I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. My husband and I were celebrating his 40th bday, and we have not been on a vacation alone without kids in 9 years. We were looking forward to this trip for a long time! It was definitely a waste of $2300 I wish I had spent it somewhere else. The food is horrible, the Buffett has 7 different kinds of beans, and they he same thing every night! I’ve been to other resorts, where that have a theme dinner every night at their buffet and they switch up the options. The wait staff are rude and no one seems to want to work there. Another couple we went with was told in an abrupt manner to wait their turn, even though they were not asking for help. This hotel runs out of everything, they don’t have mint for their mojitos, they don’t t have Cuban sandwiches, hotdogs or French fries. Their coffee machines were always down. The pool bar has no cups, so you have to bring your own. The lobby bar doesn’t even have a drink menu(how hard is it to cone up with that) The food selection at the Buffett have no labels. The pizzeria was out of pizza, even though we waited in line for 45 minutes only to be told “just because you waited, doesn’t mean we will have it” We went to book at the a la carte, the man we were booking with was so angry, my friend couldn’t believe the way he was speaking to me because he asked me how many people am I reserving for, when I answered “4” he started yelling at me and saying “ do you think I’m a magician, you need to tell me” which I didn’t understand because I did tell him when he asked. I just walked away. We didn’t end up experiencing that part of the resort. I just didn’t want to deal with that behaviour. Overall I am very upset, when I looked up this resort it said it was a 5 star. It’s a 2 star at best! Clearly they don’t know how to count! People spend your money elsewhere, go to Jamaica or Mexico or anything other than this resort! It will cost you a little more, but it’s worth it! For a 4 star in Jamaica you will have someone serving you drinks by the pool or beach! Read less

When we requested at check-in they gave us rooms facing each other in the same building in a matter of minutes. We were told that the dining hall was closed and were advised of the options we had. We were taken to the room and had a smooth ride all the way! Overall, we had a great service from all locations. The staff were very helpful and did everything we asked for. Reading various reviews did have me cautious, but everything was put to rest from the very first experience at check in and for every day to follow. Food could do with a bit of an upgrade. Food in the resort was ordinary but if you venture into Varadero, its excellent and a great value for money too. Teppanyaki was awesome and the others were okay. Entertainment was excellent and so were the beach and pool. Cuba is an awesome place with awesome, kind and helpful people. Would go back again for sure! Thank you guys very much, for giving us a great time and a memorable vacation!! Read less

Just returned from five day stay. This is a tricky one. The physical layout of the resort is superb. The wait staff very good, efficient, friendly. Just returned from five day stay. This is a tricky one. The physical layout of the resort is superb. The wait staff very good, efficient, friendly. No one goes to an all inclusive expecting great food in Cuba, no exception here. As well, the al a carte restos are quite mixed, Japanese not bad. My daughter is lactose intolerant--absolutely no soy or almond milk alternative! But good news is the arrival of new food and beverages manager, Aitor. Spent some time talking with him, watching him and I suspect both quality and variety of food will rise. Might return next year to see. Other things? WiFi both free but unreliable. My daughter needed a bandaid and not a single one available, no first aid kit available anywhere in this large resorts. Bathrooms outside of rooms often without soap for several days. Wonderful pool areas but best you are a polar bear club member, the ocean much warmer with fabulous beach. The evening entertainment, typically cheesy and wonderful but needs more variety night to night. We might return next year to see if food improves. Read less

Request rooms on east side, (even numbered rooms) you will get afternoon sun on balcony. Otherwise other side you will not get any sun at all, but will have small view line of ocean. You are near everything you will need. Plus away from late noise if you aren’t all nighters. Make sure to go to the Rock House snack bar which is 1 minute walk from 4 block. They are only open 12pm-3pm but have good food. Pizza is great. Buffet is mostly seafood choices. Go to the snack bars to get better choices. Anyone who knows Cuba, knows the food situation. Bring spices. Chairs are plentiful, but definitely towel and clip your chairs to get good spot. We did this every morning by 7:30am. Because it is an adults only resort there isn’t much poolside entertainment in day but there is at the beach. Internet is free for 10 hours TOTAL only duration of stay. You receive password and username after check in. If you are in royal service it is available everywhere. If not royal service only in lobby and as far as poolside. Lobby seating is extremely limited. Especially 6:30pm-9:30pm. We only went to Hill Top a la carte which is premium only available for royal service guests but it was a birthday reservation given to us by resort as a gift. Major plus and unexpected. We mentioned celebrating a 50th and they did this for us. We did have an issue at store buying can of lays stax. Brought can back to room to notice it was already opened and half eaten. Took back to store next day and lady replaced without question. So make sure you check the can 1st before buying. Make sure you bring ziplocks of wipes if you go out of resort. You will not find toilet paper in washrooms. We did an old car rental with driver. It was great. Loved seeing the city and the car was excellent. Make sure to negotiate price BEFORE trip. Find out hourly rate as apposed to amount for suggested hours of trip. They will drive extremely fast. If your trip is 5 hours and they get back in 3 you are still charged for the 5 hours. Cannot stress MAKING SURE to negotiate the rate 1st!!!! Definitely get out of the resort to downtown Varadero. Visit the Beatles bar 100%. Bring shirts with old band pictures on them for the singers. They love that. Bug Spray 100% must!!!!!!!! Read less
