Unfortunately I had a bad experience in this hotel, since I arrived 30 minutes late to my reservation in Havana, because they did not let pass the private car that I had reserved for my transfer, the security chief explains to our driver the only cars that are authorized to perform taxi services are those of the hotel (of course those of your convenience) ideas that do not share, in each place we visited this car was waiting at the door of each hotel without any problem, our driver pays an official government agency a considerable sum of money for providing this service, our driver came from Havana to this hotel because we asked him to, he was always punctual to each pickup and he gave us an excellent service, that's why I and my family believe that it is unfair what they are doing when they mistreat the people of their country and we the clients. We hope that they take just measures in situations like these. Read less

This truly was the worse trip we have ever been on. Other then the grounds and beach being beautiful it was Definitely not a 5*. It began upon arrival. We were told we had to wait for the bell boy to take us to the royal section for Check in- we literally waited 45 minutes for the bell boy to arrive . We finally get to the royal section lobby. Check in at royal service was quick and we were taken to our room. Upon arrival we noticed a horrible smell in the room- a moldy smell. We were tired and starving as it was now about 11:00pm so we ordered room service which only arrived at almost 1:00am. We did not unpack as we just wanted our food and thank God we didn’t unpack. Food arrived at 1:00am. I bit into my burger and it was raw and as I put the burger down my husband told me to quickly get up ; I looked back and there was a cockroach walking down the curtain. I instantly called front desk and they did nothing and said they had no other room to put me in till the next day ....we did not pack or sleep that night as we found another two cockroaches . The next day we called front desk and they told us we had to check back in the afternoon for our next room as they had to wait for people to check out ...this was definitely a lie as the resort was not busy at all! Anyways, we met with our butler (Arletty-not sure I’m spelling her name correctly ) and she was amazing and got on our room issue immediately and got us another room which unfortunately the air conditioner broke down but yet once again they had no other room for us -had to wait another day once again! Our first 3 days were wasted switching rooms!! If it wasn’t for us being royal service and having our amazing butler we wouldn’t have known that the buffet was only open on alternating days and not all a la cartes were open! This was a huge problem for us as this was not specified on their website or air Transat vacations website and air Transat vacations did not inform us of that, if they had we would’ve gone to another country! Also , the food shortage in Cuba is not a joke . No potatoes, no fries, no chicken , no veggies, no salads and barely any fruit! I am not joking when I say my husband and I had to fill up on bread with butter and pop. I was sick one of the days with nausea because of how hungry I was. Even when the buffet was open , half of it was empty! We have traveled to many countries and always at this time of year because our anniversary is In June but never and I mean never have we starved or had any issues like we did at this resort. We had a way better experience at the Barcelo solymar in Cuba and that’s a 4* and this is supposed to be a 5*? We expressed our issues with the air Transat rep at the resort who could only offer free royal service the next time I go back....we obviously told her we will never go back and we have filed a complaint with air Transat vacations but still waiting on a response on that. Let’s be honest, every good review on here is from a royal service guest which leads me to believe that they are treated very differently from the regular guests. I guess if you aren’t staying in royal service, it’s just not the same experience. It’s sad considering every guest deserves the best experience. So if you can’t afford the upgrade, I would stay elsewhere. First of all, we went into our vacation with our standards much lower then if we were going to Mexico. We know that Cuba is not known for their food but never ever expected it to be that bad, especially at a 5 star resort. My husband got VIOLENTLY ill our second day there and it was very obvious it was from the food at the buffet. The same foods were served every single day. We survived off of peanut butter on bread and lunch at the 24hour restaurant (ham and cheese sandwiches). Our stomachs are still on the mend. Our room (and other rooms as well after talking to other guests) smelled like pure mold. The best advice I have for you is 1)Go to royal service because I’m seriously hoping it’s not as bad as the regular service, which is actually sad. 2) book an a la cart restaurant for every single night of your stay because I promise you, the buffet is the last place you will want to eat. The beach is breathtaking, the staff (most of them) are very kind with the exception of a few grumpy waitresses. My husband and I have never wanted to go to Cuba but decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately after this experience we won’t be back. Read less
