One morning there was no coffee in the dining room. The food is absolutely terrible even in the specialty restaurants. At lunch and dinner, there was an assortment of mystery stuff on the steam tables and the cooks prepare meat to a leather quality. The only meal they do not ruin is breakfast and even then you have to cook the bacon some more. The whole resort needs maintenance and an uplift. There were a lot of amenities which which were not working such as the hot tub. They have done some repairs on the cheap such as patching a roof with two different shingles. On the beach, the lifeguards spend their time in a shack by the bar and pay no attention to people in the water. This is, at best, a three star resort. We will never return and we will actively deter anyone from going there. Read less

Arriving at the hotel we were not greeted by anyone and when I got to the desk to check in the worker complained he was the only one working the desk and that he is always overworked.Instead of checking us in he asked to hold onto our passports until he had time to get out our rooms sorted. Not a good feeling to hand off your passport to someone you don’t know in another country. After checking in we found out there was no hot water or warm for that matter and that lasted for 4 days after numerous complaints. No wine at dinner and was shocked we had to pay for any premium alcohol. First resort in Cuba that when it says it is all- inclusive it’s NOT. Most staff members seemed like they didn’t want to be working there. Evening entertainment lacked. Not enough seating area in the lobby bar. Beach was NEVER groomed in the week I was there so to get into the ocean you had to step over mounds and mounds of seaweed. Food was sub par. I’ve had better at 4 other resorts I have stayed at in Cuba. I will never be returning to this hotel in Cuba. Huge disappointment over all. Read less

So we are planning our yearly trip to Cuba to see our grandmother and we have always stayed at the Paradisus. BUT... Our last visit was not very good and very disappointing. Things were not as they have always have been. The hotel is starting to get very run down and it appears that they are giving it a fresh coat of paint. Sevice was terrible in all areas this time, more so at the pool bar where I had a hard time getting a drink all the time as the bar tender was more interested in other thing going on in the back room. I was kind of grossed out to see them washing the disposable plastic glasses and they were out of mint so forget mojitos for our entire stay. The food was just average, but the specialty restaurants were above and beyond terrible, except for the Hilltop which is always great. But the saving grace was that this is an adult only hotel which made the beach and pool area wonderful at all times. Like I said, we have stayed here several times, but this stay left a bad taste in my mouth and am unsure if I would ever return. I also felt from the moment we arrived that the manager was trying to scam us. While I am American, my husband and grandmother are cuban so not sure what that was about. As a Melia rewards member, we were never given to chance to upgrade or use the coupons given to us and just threw them away when we left for the airport. In the end, Cuba is a wonderful place with beautiful people and Varadero beach is a small slice of heaven that I will always return to year after year after year. Read less

My stay at the hotel was amazing. The beach was clean and the room was confortable. The clientele was mostly Canadian and friendly. What really made the difference is the staff. By the pool, Oreste and Yolexis were providing an outstanding service. I took a canchanchara cocktail lesson with Isela and Nayvi which was very fun.

We've been returning to this resort now for the 7 years in a row. We were there in early March. I've written multiple reviews. We prefer the non Royal Service side of the resort. Although this is not a big resort, the regular side is closer to the restaurants and bars. The staff is very friendly and customer service continues to improve. Improvements are made to the infrastructure as well. We especially like having lunch at the beach restaurant, evenings at the Lobby, Cigar and Piano Bar (the latter for quiet and smoke free). Shout out goes out to Richard and Ciro at the beach. At the Cigar Bar, we find the service from Liuben, Victor, Pedro, Yvan, Jean and the rest of the crew behind the bar (and in the back) especially good. We go to fewer A la Carte restaurants each year but I'd recommend the Hiltop (in Royal Service) and the Oriental Bamboo Restaurants. Don't have the soup at the Oriental Restaurant, not a good choice. The one thing that we've noticed over the years is the decline in the quality of the entertainment. Too many 'dancer' and 'fashion' shows. This year they had a couple of nights when the guests were the entertainment. That was quite boring. There is not enough quality live cuban music. They once had more live entertainment. They do have two wonderful guys who have been there for years and play most nights either in the lobby or cigar bar, they are Albert and Fundy! Really talented guys. That's it for now, if you want specific info, you can message me. Read less
