We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel for our 50th birthdays, two hour private transfer following on from a stay in Havana. Its a pretty spacious and well set out hotel with four restaurants, buffet area and various bars, including a swim up pool bar, beach bar snack areas. Entertainment day and night was quite good, our stay was early season and less guests so there was always room to sit of an evening and plenty of room around the pool. There is a nightclub at the harbour (10min walk) and the hotels arrange a night out there by bus on Tuesdays, nothing spectacular but worth going for the band and a dance. We arrived at the hotel early afternoon and after a short sales pitch to upgrade (we didn't) we were shown to our room. Cuba itself often has shortages of items we take for granted, we knew this before our trip but the staff and locals adapt well to this, so some of the complaints on here can be a little petty, all things considered. That being said, i had read about some thefts of flip flops etc from the beach areas, we left our hotel towels on the beach beds in front of the security guard and walked the 15m to the sea only for one of the towels to be taken, the hotel charge 15CUC per towel and there is now way around this charge. We didn't see the upgraded rooms/areas but there are no complaints about the area we stayed. Read less

So disappointed as we upgraded to Royal Service. Talked our friends into joining us. We were embarrassed as they also splurged expecting something different from regular service. So disappointed as we upgraded to Royal Service. Talked our friends into joining us. We were embarrassed as they also splurged expecting something different from regular service. It started with our room, wasn’t ready upon our arrival at 1:00pm. Ok. We understand. But soooooo many 20 minutes later (repeatedly) as we waited in our travel clothes and by 5:00 we were finally placed in a non Royal Service room where the door lock didn’t work. So after losing one day we spent the next morning trying to sort out the room situation. By 5:00 the next day we were moved to the royal service area (thank you broken door lock). Our friends next room flooded so they had to spend more time packing up again and moving. This is Royal Service???? We had a butler.....sounds important right? Well we hardly saw here. Yes she was lovely. However the only help she provided was making dinner reservations which I believe isn’t really a luxury. I hate to be a whiner......look at my reviews. I travel a great deal, and I know what to expect....and what not to expect. Royal service at the beach was non existent.....no service unless you walked to the bar, they were very friendly, but again, likely the same in the regular service area. We wanted service!!! That’s what we paid for :( We had zero royal treatment and truly regret not booking in the regular rooms, the only difference on this side is that is a quiet area. The resort is very big so to go to the regular area which is beautiful as well but much more lively....and a bit of a walk. If you are going with friends you will lose time looking for them.. The resort is gorgeous I have to say, as well as the beach, but again, as I travel the Caribbean few times a year, I will NOT come back to this one....I felt so bad convincing our friends to join us and spend the extra money. We were in Paradisus Holguín in March where it was much more enjoyable, quaint and treated like we mattered (in non Royal Service room). We will definitely NOT be back. I tried to ignore the negative reviews but sadly have to join them. Also, please note this resort is at the end of the line so your shuttle will stop at many resorts along the way before you get to yours....not to mention you wait for them all to board the bus...just saying. Ok done with this one. Planning our January trip, and it sure won’t be here!!! Read less

I see all the beautiful pics and the nice review but that was not our experience. We were booked for a seven day stay and I was sick in bed for five of the seven. My husband was a bit more fortunate, he only got sick on day five. This sounds horrible but is true, I could not get off the toilet for five days. I tried to make it out for a walk and something to eat as there was a small restaurant just outside our villa but could not go any further due to my unexpected condition. I was only able to stay outside for fresh air for maybe 10 minutes and could barely make it back to my room up the stairs as I was very weak from not eating and sitting on the toilet for five days. I drank water and back on the toilet almost immediately. It started up again on the day to leave and was afraid to let loose in the airport waiting in line. This time my husband was in the same condition. This trip cost us over $3500.00 and it was a bonus from work and that is how it was spent. We have stayed at the Melia Las Americas and had a fantastic time so we thought this resort being a Melia chain as well would be great also but it wasn't. It was a holiday I needed badly because my Dad was not doing well at home and he finally stabilized when we left, otherwise we would have had to cancel. Being able to get away was a dream for me as he'd been sick for seven years in and out of hospital. We knew this would be one of our last trips for a long time due top his condition. We made it thru the trip home without incident but barely. The buffet is the only thing I can think if ass the even the cheese was sweating and starting to curl. I could hardly eat from there as it looked like it had been sitting out for hours. You know, I hate writing reviews like this but I had to. I thought I was near death. Sorry that scared us enough that we don't want to go back to Cuba all together again, even to stay at another resort. This saddens me as I loved Cuba. I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Read less

Wow where do I start.... We had the Royal service and boy oh boy it was definitely the Royal service... From the moment we arrived we were treated like rock stars. Our room was on the second floor facing the ocean and at 2pm when we checked in we were brought up to our room by our fabulous butlers Yan and Roger who did an amazing job setting up all our dinners and my wife's 50th party at the Hilltop restaurant, cake and great music by 2 of the best guitarist we have ever heard. The front office was always there to help and always said it's my pleasure. All the staff and entertainment crew were simply amazing every moment. The food was like a 5 star resort in Mexico or Dominica Rep. The beach was fantastic everyday with lots of chairs and palapas and you didn't have to go and drop the trowels on the chairs at 6am always plenty of lounges. The gang at the beach bar was unbelievable every morning they would come and say hi with a hug and every time you left the beach they would say have a great night and would see you in the morning. Now for the management WOW!!!! not sure I can even give them enough credit by writing so a HUGE THUMBS UP to all of them, Marines and her colleagues are truly awesome. The lobby is a great atmosphere every night, the two gentleman that played guitar nightly in the lobby were excellent along with the gentlemen on the saxophone. Special thanks to Dr.Fidal for helping me with my lower back I am feeling much much better thanks. Well I could go on and on and on, all I say is go to Paradisus Princess Del Mar and live it like we did. We didn't want to leave...... miss them and we feel we now have a very largefamily in Varadaro Cuba. Enjoy the pictures Read less
