Paradisus Varadero

The hotel

Its Family Concierge zone has child (and parent) friendly pools, guestrooms tailored to families, and a spot near its Amigos Club to relax. Its Royal Service section is reserved for over 18s, giving you your own stretch of beach, a grown-ups-only pool, restaurant, and bars, and spacious suites and villas with Butler service.

The waiters and waitresses did not even care a bit. The tables were not set frequently and if you asked anyone to do anything, for example, clean and prepare the table for us, they would take ages and you had to ask 2 or 3 times for them to do it. And they didn't even do it properly. The pools were filthy for 1 or 2 days and when they were not filthy, they were acceptable. Not impeccable, but okay to go in. Overall, I would say it was a nice stay, but it was very bad for a 5 star resort Read less

I have been to Cuba many times...and know what to expect for the money you pay! That being said, I paid too much for a room in the Standard Suite Section. If you want to visit this resort I recommend you book the family concierge or Royal Service. Our room was dirty, found nightgown under pillow first night we were there, no hot water, mosquitoes everywhere! Food was ok...nothing to write home about, Cuba is Cuba, but they could certainly make better efforts towards offering guests more choices and better quality. Service was ok...I have to mention that the lobby bar, Kristal was the worse service we have seen at a resort in a long time...no smiles, no small talk...was a long wait getting a drink most of the time! Our shining star was Alejandro! He was the only staff who took the time to be nice to us and took care of us when he was there..so bravo to him. His customer service and no pressure for tips should be noted.. Beach was nice, lots of shade which is always a plus. Always chairs available at any time of day. Richard was great! He was always there to get you settled in for the day! Beach bar service was very good! Jaydell, not sure how to spell that, a young guy, was so kind and always checking if you needed anything...bravo to him as well...great job! The beach has a lot of coral and rocks due to hurricane few yrs ago, water shoes would not be a bad idea...water is not very deep, and water is usually calm. My thing that I enjoyed the most about this resort is the location, its situated right on the beach..so visually its stunning, everywhere you walk, you can see the ocean...at night it is beautiful, the sunsets are amazing! Having supper at the buffet with the sun setting was a highlight for sure! If you choose to stay at this resort, in the standard rooms my opinion would be to not overpay...Paradisus represents a certain image and standard, for what we paid I feel it was not met. Also this is a big property, so a lot of walking. I wish them all the best with the renovations they are saying will happen. Sure it will improve after that. Read less

This place has very outdated rooms. They smell bad and are not clean. Also good luck if you’re trying to find a place to lay on the beach or by the pool. This place has very outdated rooms. They smell bad and are not clean. Also good luck if you’re trying to find a place to lay on the beach or by the pool. People reserve the chairs by putting their towels and then they don’t come back to them for hours. We would do the same in the early morning on the beach but then wanted to stay by the pool after lunch and could not find a place and vice verse. At one point I stayed on the stone/cement ground with my baby. Not enough tanning chairs around for the amount of people there are. We also tried to reserve a Cabana one morning only to go and see our towels were removed by someone. Then complained to customer service that our towels are missing but they just told us no one returned them! So we had no beach towels to use anymore. We had to beg for extra water bottles for the baby when we were told we could have unlimited amount if needed... not true! Lots of mosquitos... we went home bitten like crazy! Sliding door to the balcony area... you need to be hulk strong to use it! So difficult to open. No screen so you can’t just open for the breeze without letting mosquitos in! We had a main floor room but it still had a couple steps to get in so it was a disaster with the stroller when I was alone coming in and out of the room. Next time will look for a newer place with better accommodations. This resort is closing for renovations for 6 months so that explains all the issues and lack of support from staff and customer service. Read less

We went to the Paradisus Varadero to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We really enjoyed our 14 days there. Our butlers Alexander and Ovasius spoiled us every day. Our suite was very clean and we were surprised with a wonderful bathroom. We really enjoyed the" outside" shower. The walls were closed but the ceiling was build with wooden beams. We looked up at the sky and shored under palm trees. We had a junior suite on the main floor with a terrace. We enjoyed the view of the Atlantic. The service at the Bellamar reastaurant and the bar was super. We got a special meal on our anniversary day with music. The table was beautiful decorated. Our driver Ahmed, who spoke a little German and a little English was always ready to drive us to the main lobby of the resort. We had a really good time and relaxed at the pool with an excellent service. The only thing which my husband missed was the sandy beach. The beach at the Royal service was with coral stones. He went the main beach at the resort were the sandy beach was, but it was a little bit crowded. Read less

I've been to Cuba, 10 times but this was the first time in 10 years, since our Cuban wedding. We went for a week with two kids aged 7 and 8. We all had a blast! What a great resort. We stayed in the Family concierge section in a one bedroom suite. The whole bathroom part of the room was bigger than some hotel rooms. The pool in the Family area was clean and beautiful and the pool bar service was incredible (Thank you to Dunier and Katier). Kids loved the adjacent splash pad and played there for hours. The beach was long and wide and you could always find shade with all the palapas and palm trees. The service at the beach bar was great thanks to Jose and a lady whose name started with a Y (sorry I forgot her name). Incredible beach mojitos! The service in the restaurants was also great,Eugenio and Sade went above and beyond for us.Food was good, for Cuba. We never left a meal hungry nor dreaded going for a meal which does happen at some Cuban resorts.Even our somewhat picky children found something too like at each meal. The service everywhere was great. Our personal concierge, Miguel, kept checking in on us, and even the bellhops/cart drivers were great, especially Eduardo. The walk from the family concierge to the beach is about 6 minutes, or 10 with children so the cart drivers come in handy. Just ask for a car at the lobby and they will take you where you need to go, ie main lobby, beach or even to your room. The staff were all friendly and cared about our happiness. We even met the director of social media,Lilier, and she was a real gem, she kept making sure our vacation was going well whenever we saw her. To the people that disparage the staff at this resort, sure, occasionally you meet a grump that doesn't smile but they are all humans with different problems in life, most problems way more pressing than your own I would assume, so cut them some slack. We definitely get worse customer service in Canada whether you go to a retail store or restaurant, no one seems to care about customer service in Canada anymore. Overall, if you treat the Cuban staff like people, and not servants, they will go above and beyond to make your stay amazing. We tipped occasionally but didn't throw money around and still got great service. In fact, a couple of the staff I mentioned above even tried to turn down tips when we got to know them better, that's a rarity anywhere! Especially in Canada, eh? ;) Thank you for an amazing vacation. We hope to come back soon. Read less
