We went to the Playacar Palace with another couple. Here is my honest review of the experience we had: 1). Transfer. The complimentary airport hotel shuttle transfer was 90 min late. We were told “20 more minutes” multiple times. In the end, we got a private taxi. The hotel refused to reimburse us unless we went to the 90 minute presentation. No thanks. 0/5 for the shuttle service and 0/5 for the hotels response to being late. 2) Beach: loaded with seaweed and only saw the staff removing it once in 7 days. Nature is killing the beached with this stuff in Playa. It’s hard for the hotel to fix this. 1/5 for the beach. 3). Hotel appearance. Very clean. Very well kept. Rooms were amazing. Single sink bathroom was a pain. 5/5 for appearance. 4.0 / 5.0 for the room (single sink) 4). Food. Breakfast buffet was pretty good. Lots of choice. Lunch: buffet was good. I loved the taco station. Snack bar burgers were great! Dinner: excellent. Really enjoyed the Asian restaurant. Did the hibachi and the sit down. Great food. The Mexican was unique and came with tequila tasting. The Italian was great but a little noisy. Overall, 4.5 / 5 for the food. Entertainment: Very basic but we are not big show people. Good quality from the staff given the fact it’s a small property. 3.0 / 5. Pool: great vibe. Lounges can be a little hard to come by unless you get out before 830 or so. Pool staff made a loud group turn off a speaker. I liked that. Pool gets a 4/5. Staff Wait staff, pool staff and housekeeping were Amazing. The time share people were too pushy. It gets annoying. Would rather be left alone. Overall Very clean property Crappy seaweed situation but we had a great time; we had full drinks, full bellies and enjoyed the food. There were a lot of kids the first few days that were quite unruly but that can’t be controlled. Would we go back? Depends on the seaweed and the price we can get. There are so many other properties in Cancun and Playa that we really need to be incentivized to go back to the same place. Read less

We were excited to see Alexander who use to be at Sun Palace and also had a good welcome from Jesus. Our concierge staff Eder, Marianna, Veronica, and Egnacio were really great and attended to all of our spa appointments and dinner reservations! We had several messages, mani and pedis, and facial - Margarita, Luna and Mario were great. The food didn’t disappoint - Jesus at the Italian restaurant Belatoria was great, Antonio at Momo made sure we had a fun time with special appetizers and shots, and Salvador at Lahna gave a great Tequila tasting and saw to an awesome 10 course dinner! The pool time was great with Basilio and Ingrid serving drinks and food all week and Volleyball with the entertainment staff Jorge and Ricardo was really fun! We spent a day at Cozumel Palace as well as did a Sunset Sailing adventure one night which was really fun! Would recommend this resort to adults or families that plan to do a lot of excursions (as there isn’t a lot for younger kids to do). We will be back! Read less

We were greeted with a dink and great smelling towel, The bell hop delivered our luggage to our room that was ready upon our arrival (early check in) The staff went WAY above and beyond in every way, every day. The restaurants were very accommodating and the food was delicious, Isreal in the buffet restaurant had the cook make us a special breakfast and a special lunch and special coffees each day, we were completely amazed!!! The pool staff was so so much fun, Jorge the pool entertainer taught us pool aerobics and how to use the pool bicycles SO much fun, he was fun and very entertaining!!!! Perla and Carlos keep out drinks and belly full while we lounged by the pool, GREAT service! Isabelle made sure all our guest services were taken care of and with a great personality and smile! Susan and Paulina were both amazing in the spa, massage and chocolate wraps. The room service was delicious and hot when it arrived. I can not say enough about the warm welcoming feeling we felt the entire trip, the entire staff and resort felt like home away from home! This was my 4th visit and hope for many many more!!! We are avid all- inclusive Mexico resort travelers and visit every 6 months, this was our first time staying at a Palace resort. This was definitely the least- nice place that we have stayed, but we still had a nice vacation. But, it was definitely a good reminder of why we usually choose to stay at more upscale, adults-only resorts. Check-in: 8/10 We were greeted by friendly staff, a nice, cold towel, and a refreshing drink. The ladies are also greeted with a long-stemmed flower. Once we were all checked in, we were immediately prompted to sit at another desk.. where you can probably guess, we were told all about their timeshare promotions. We were told that we had over $1500 in resort credit, but in order to activate $1100 of it, we had to attend a presentation about the timeshare. So, that was annoying. But, they didn’t really push any more after we told them we weren’t interested, which was greatly appreciated. Room: 5/10 We had a nice ocean-view honeymoon suite on the 5th floor. Our view was beautiful, one that was hard to beat. Otherwise, there was nothing special about our room. The room service was hit or miss, our order was often wrong or missing something. We did leave the sign on our door on a few occasions, requesting for our room to be tidied; new sheets/towels, etc. But, a couple of times, we would get back to our room at the end of the day to find it just how we left it and had to call the desk and request new towels. Our room was VERY noisy, the noise from the pool was inescapable. During the day, there is loud music. At night, you hear the loud music from the poolside shows. There is also a small airport nearby for the sky divers, so all day long you hear the loud planes rushing overhead. Grounds: 3/10 The grounds and landscape were pretty disappointing. Almost no vibrant flowers. Some palm trees around the pool. The fake grass was coming up and tattered in almost all places. The paint on the building was chipped in many places. There are only 3 elevators and they were pretty slow. The etching detail on the glass was coming off on a lot of windows. The whole place was really dated and could desperately use some TLC. Food: 6/10 I will be the first to admit that I know that the food at an all inclusive resort is usually nothing to write home about. But, the food at Playacar Palace was pretty good! I was pleasantly surprised. The Asian restaurant, Momo’s, was surprisingly our favorite restaurant. The buffet does not have a lot of variety at all. You must have reservations to the restaurants on the weekend days, minus the buffet. The Italian restaurant was just okay, my carbonara was very salty and bland. Each restaurant had a large selection of plates and drinks. The dessert at each restaurant was very disappointing, I think Americans are used to very sweet, indulgent desserts, and these were quite the opposite. The Mayan restaurant was a very neat experience. This is for couples only, and you must have a reservation for this restaurant. It starts with a tequila tasting and is followed by 10 courses of authentic Mayan plates. The portions are small, but since there are 10 of them, you leave full and satisfied. The wait staff at this restaurant are all very knowledgeable and attentive. Drinks: 6/10 Great selection of mixed drinks! But, if you enjoy a nice, boozy drink, these will disappoint. We even asked for “doubles” on some occasions and even then, we had a hard time believing there was any alcohol in them. But all in all, they were pretty delicious. Some tasted watered down and weren’t very flavorful, but again, I think that’s just the American expectation in me. Pool: 3/10 It was very loud. The wait staff was just okay. At every other resort that we have been to, there has been a few stand out staff members who go above and beyond, remember our names, and make the trip special and memorable. That was not the case here. The pool staff were all nice, but I don’t remember a single person’s name. They seemed like they were there to do their job and that was it. They did all seem annoyed when we would ask for water bottles and always told us that we had to go to the lobby for water bottles. What pool service doesn’t offer water bottles to people who are basking in the sun all day?? Weird. They had a good amount of chairs, and almost every chair seemed to be poolside or had an ocean view, mostly both. But, there did seem to be a lot of chair-saving, which was annoying. Every morning when we woke up, we’d go straight to the pool and almost every single chair had a towel on it, but nobody on it, or even in sight. There were also some inconsiderate guests who brought small speakers, like we all wanted to listen to their music. So rude and honestly, so tacky. Spa: 10/10 The highlight of our trip! We opted for the 80 minute aromatherapy massage. It started with some stretching done by the masseuse, followed by an excellent medium pressure massage by Lucielle. One of the best massages I have ever had! We were then led to a room with very comfortable chairs and warm neck pillows to relax in afterward. Overall, we did have a nice vacation and enjoyed our time away. But, we will likely not be back to a Palace resort. Read less
