The hotel

This elegant hotel lies in its own beautiful well-tended gardens. The ambience created in the hotel attracts a high rate of repeat visitors and the level of service here is top notch — you'll be impressed by the little touches, like speedy check-in, nightly turn-down service and Champagne cocktails at the intimate Bobster's Champagne Bar. During the day, you can choose from a range of non-motorised water sports and treatments at the tranquil spa, or simply relax by the pool or in the gallery lounge with afternoon tea overlooking the ocean. The private white sand beach is one of the best on the island with a specially built lagoon to create a calm swimming area for kids. You will find superb cuisine in two restaurants for both buffet dining and à la carte dining.

As you drive through the landscaped and manicured grounds, enter the open, airy reception area, you are greeted by the pristine waters of the Caribbean Sea and it is evident that this property was once majestic. The location cannot be beat, you can walk from the airport. The private beach is stunning, calm, clear and there are many tropical fish to see near the rocks. This is the only thing that draws me here. The bones of the property are quite beautiful and the attention to detail is admired but it is past the point of having old Caribbean charm. It is so dated it feels like a museum and has a signature old musty smell. It is relatively clean but the age cannot be hidden especially in the bathrooms which are unpleasant. The room was poorly lit with a shaky bed, warped mattress and two worn out pillows. The ceilings on the second floor are very low compared to the ground floor rooms. The foul smell in the corridor by the shops need to be addressed. Hotel staff customer service is average, not at international standard. Tamara’s servers are unprofessional and appear irritated. Food was subpar. Sad to see what was a glorious hotel fall into disrepair. Not sure if I would spend another night there or if it’s worth the price. There’s an eerie feeling as there’s hardly any guests and you can see and feel the hotel withering away. Would be delighted to return if it was renovated. Read less

The private bay is an amazing part of this resort. The water is warm and clear and the beach has clean, white sand. It appears the hotel (and the island in general) is getting back on its feet following the pandemic, but the food is amazing and the cocktail menu is vast. Yes the rooms are basic, but they have everything you need. You need to request housekeeping, but there were enough essentials, including many towels. The staff are amazing, helpful and caring. They provided a special meal for my husband and I as we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We did not want to leave the resort and for those who just want to lay back and enjoy the view, this is the resort for you. It was the best place to unwind and relax. Read less

One of the big pulls of going to Coco Reef was it's spectacular location. It is only a short walk into the local town and it also has a beautiful beach. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we felt at ease at the hotel and also to roam the island. For anyone looking to use the hotel as a base to explore Tobago, I would highly recommend.

Absolutely great to be back at Coco Reef after so long. The private beach is still the best on island and the waters are so warm. As always the food hit the mark. We will be back again next year for sure now travel is open!

I am a regular guest at this hotel , living in trinidad we visit at least twice a year. I know COVID times have been hard given all of our restrictions in place My first issue was there was no designated area for kids to eat (they can’t dine in the Resturant due to restrictions) , we asked if we could eat on the terrace we were told no. There is no service what so ever , usually there is someone to offer drinks etc on the beach and pool , we are aware alcohol isn’t allowed at the beach but I’m not sure why we can’t have service for non alcoholic beverages or service by the pool. There is also no house keeping service , which I was okay with especially with Covid The second night we were there we had drinks on the terrace , at around 9pm the staff came to tell us the bar was closing but we could stay if we wish , which we did for a bit then retired to our rooms as all the staff was gone by 9:30 and the bar was closed. I know times are hard , and I know we are in this pandemic , but my main issue is their rates are significantly higher now … so why is that so given all of these cut backs? Read less
