TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We chose Secrets Maroma for our honeymoon for 9 days and couldn't have been happier. Everything was amazing. We stayed in the preferred club (building 26). The room was very nice. Our concierge... Read more , Roberto, was AWESOME. He helped us book everything we needed on the resort and was always friendly. Preferred club is nice, but not necessary as the only benefit we really saw was the view closer to the beach. Would probably do it again though. We read about the sales pitch, and luckily we didn't receive one nor did anyone come up to us trying to sell it the entire trip. This is how it should be. The food was excellent. The breakfast buffet is a must every morning. So much food and delicious. We loved the restaurant by the pool for lunch. Forgot the name but we loved the food...and THANK YOU to Ana, the hostess at the restaurant. You were the best! We tried every restaurant for dinner and enjoyed every meal. We waited some nights for dinner, but no big deal, it wasn't outrageous. Pool/Beach - both very nice. We spent more time by the pool because more goes on there, but the beach was beautiful as well. Entertainment staff was a lot of fun. We loved Big Willy, Johan and Gabby. The nighttime shows were really good. We weren't expecting them to be that good and were pleasantly surprised. The Cirque, Rock Show, and Beatles show are a must (not sure how long they are at the resort though). Overall, it was a perfect trip. Anyone who complains about anything either had an isolated situation or is way too picky. We would recommend to anyone and would love to go back. Read less
Adults who want an all inclusive resort with excellent service, top shelf liquor, dining choices in a luxurious tropical setting on the beach will want to go back to this resort over again. It’s an... Read more ideal location for total relaxation. There are all of the typical beach and water activities available at the resort. Many half and full day excursions are also available. I went with a group of 12 celebrating a birthday. I had a partial ocean view room. Several friends stayed in the preferred building. Building 24 worked out well for me. All of the rooms are junior suites with large four poster beds, his and hers closets, mini bar and jetted tub. Each building has a personal concierge. The preferred club has jetted tubs on the balconies, an exclusive lounge and other perks such as unlimited use of the aqua treatment pools in the spa. The Barefoot grill by the pool had a good variety and was open long enough to get a late afternoon snack by the pool. The grill buffets were very good. There were two, a South American night and a Mexican Barbeque. The Mexican, Italian and French restaurants were all excellent. My only complaint about the food is that the fish was over cooked for my taste. If you go snorkeling, the reef is a federal park. One must use natural biodegradable sun screen which the tour operators sell. I recomend taking off your anklet before you snorkel. Otherwise you will end up decorating the reef. water was a little cloudy due to a seasonal influx of seaweed and over cast skies. The was beyond anyone's control, just something to keep in mind if you are paying for a snorkeling excursion. Seaweed washes in during April and May, not all the time but it did when we were there. The resort put up a valiant effort to clear the seaweed from the beach. There was only one day that the seaweed won the battle for the beach making it unpleasant to swim in the ocean. I just moved to the infinity pool with a view of the beach and Caribbean sea. Perfect! Read less
My husband and I visited Secrets Maroma Beach from May 2-May 9 2015 and loved every minute of it! The resort was intimate yet large enough that it did not feel like a boutique hotel. For us, what... Read more made our time so great here was the staff! The entertainment staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having a good time - blackjack in the pool, tug of war in the pool, the club at night, beach sports and activities, the nightly shows, etc. Thanks Alberto and Rene!! Everyone you walked by had a huge smile and wanted to make sure we were having a good time. Ross at the VIP services even went out of his way to get my husband Horchata from a local store because that's his favorite Mexican drink - he even got us 2 bottles to take home. It's the little things that sets this staff apart from any others. My husband scraped his knee pretty badly in the ocean one day and the staff immediately made sure to clean his cut. Being the great staff they are they called us each day and came to our room to clean it and put a gauze on it. Just some examples of the service here! ROOM-We had an oceanview room located in the lobby building. We loved it because we had a view of the entire resort and had a huge terrace with a bed and a tub. FOOD-Overall I thought the food was great. Our favorite being Portofino and one night they had a Mexican theme night dinner buffet which was excellent. Our least favorite was Himitsu. The shrimp tacos at the Barefoot Grill were great and make sure to stop at CoCo Cafe and get a Glace drink - maybe add a little Baileys! We loved the breakfast buffet - great variety of foods. Make sure to try the buffet for lunch as well - a lot to choose from and it gives you a break from the heat. BARS-Sugar Reef bar was cool place to hang with swings around the bar, a pool table, ping pong, table, and tvs. We usually stopped in after dinner to grab a drink before the nightly shows. The swim-up bar was were we spent most of our time - Wilbert and Pedro were fantastic! They suggested new drinks and made sure everyone enjoyed their drinks. Pedro even created a drink for my husband - he called it the Pedro Special! POOL-We spent most of our time in the pool having some drinks and making friends while floating on a pool float. There were always chairs available and the staff was really good about clearing towels from chairs that were not being occupied. My only complaint about the pool would be the music - it was very mellow and low. I wish it was a bit louder and more fun music. If you're there on Saturday, make sure to be at the pool - this is when the chefs from every restaurant come around with food - I wish they did this more than just once it week! BEACH-The Beach is beautiful!!! The sand is so soft and doesn't get hot. The staff at the beach was very attentive and we loved the swing bar here too. We did rent a cabana for a day and we totally thought it was worth it. We needed a break from the sun and the breeze in the cabanas was awesome. The service was excellent and we ordered lunch from the Barefoot Grill that was brought over to us. I would definitely recommend getting a cabana for a day! There was some seaweed a few days but the staff is constantly working on removing it. We just stepped right over it and went in the water! ROOM SERVICE-Room service was made to order so everything was fresh. I really liked that when you called to place an order the person would suggest some items to add instead of just taking your order and rushing you off the phone. We went on an excursion one day and had to get breakfast delivered early - it was on time and in our box! TIPS-Although tipping is not required, my husband and I made sure to tip waiters, bartenders, housekeeping, and even the entertainment staff. I felt that tipping the bartenders did get you a little bit better service. SHOWS-The staff really puts on some great shows. We LOVED the Rock show and the aerial show - we caught the end of the Beatles show and that was great as well. After the show, make sure to head to Desires - karaoke night was the best. As you can see, I can go on and on about Secrets Maroma Beach. You really can't go wrong with this resort! Just book it already!!!!! Haha. Read less
We visited Secrets Maroma last October for 10 days with my parents who are in their early 70's.We had an amazing time! The resort has everything, plenty of space to relax, especially on the wonderful... Read more beach or there's more going on by the pool. From the minute we arrived we knew we'd return! The staff were, without exception, excellent. We booked partial ocean view rooms,it was a very partial view,....if you can afford it,ocean view is amazing. We ate in all of the restaurants, all v good but we loved the Italian and the Japenese the most-book a private room in the Japenese,it was brilliant!!! Not usually a fan of buffets, but the World Cafe was so good,so much choice. I am lucky enough to travel worldwide with my job, staying at top hotels and Secrets Maroma is right up there with the best. We have just booked to return in August with our adult children, can't wait. If you haven't booked yet, just do it,such good value!! Read less
