Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort

Abu Dhabi, Middle East

The hotel

Fresh on the Abu Dhabi hotel circuit, this sparkling new Jumeirah outpost sits on arguably the best stretch of sand on Saadiyat Island, a unique eco-destination which balances luxury with sustainability. It’s easy to see why they’re keen to preserve this beautiful patch of the UAE, with its nesting turtles, visiting dolphins, and twisting mangroves creating a refreshingly unspoilt holiday setting for thoughtful travellers. But, being in tune with initiatives like using reusable water bottles, doesn’t equal missing out on today’s luxuries – and Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort comes with an over-the-top menu of infinity pools (we count three), spa treatments (which are taken in a space with a sumptuous Moroccan hammam twist), and plentiful bars and restaurants (with eight venues created to let you wine and dine your nights away together).

Room is a little bit too simple and there are still construction going on. I can hear the noise every day... Food in Tean is very tasty, staff are nice and welcoming. I want to give my special thanks to Lee at the lobby! She speaks also Italian which made my wife feeling like home...

Checking in- (we are a family of 3 with a baby). We were given a warm welcome upon arrival. Checking in was not seamless. There were three ladies handling our check in. We were told to wait a while as our room wasn't ready, bare in mind we were there with our 6 month old baby. No hot/cold towels offered. No beverage offered either. First impression, there's alot, alot of room for improvement to bring it to the jumeirah standard we know. As they have started the month of Ramadan, we were informed that we can not eat, drink, smoke or breastfeed outside. Any food needs to be consumed in either the restaurant or our room. Which means I will have to go to the room everytime I need to feed my baby throughout the day. Room- The room was lovely and spacious with an amazing view, it's big enough to put a very old cot in, which I did, which I had to wait at least 3-4 hours to arrive after ringing them for a reminder. The bathroom was nice and it had everything in it, . One of the reviews I read said that the hot water was a constant problem. I completely agree. You never know if you're getting hot or cold water. It's a guessing game, which was dangerous when it came to bathing my baby, can you imagine? You need to seriously put this correct Jumeirah. The iron didn't work the first day but it was replaced quickly. The bed was very comfortable. The balcony was nice and comfortable to sit on the big sofa chair. There was plenty of storage room and there was enough wardrobe space. MTV worked as well as one or two English movie channels. Food- Cannot fault food at all. Not only there was a huge variety of it but dinner in particular had many delicious dishes. The hotel is a less than a year old, so this could change drastically, but for now, it's fantastic. That being said, when we went down to dinner, we were told they were full on 3 occasions. We ended up going for a walk and coming back for a table inside. This is because it's the month of Ramadan. So it should be different after. My daughter fell asleep a few times during dinner and was woken up by the icecream man's noise. Annoying but guess he was doing his job. The hotel didn't change their food at all during our stay. As nice it was, it gets sickly after 5 days. They need to have theme nights. Pizza, burgers etc ... nowhere to be seen. 50% of the dishes did not have food labels and when they did, they were often placed the wrong way round. Helena, Max were very nice to us and were very helpful. Pool and the beach - out of 5 pools, there were only 2 in operation and they were both very shallow kids pool. I could not swim properly at all. They were both full of kids and very noisy. They were both shared by everyone. We had specifically asked if there were any constructions, noise, dust etc way before we got there , I was reassured that their construction will not affect us, I feel lied to as there was heavy constructions taking place around the pool and in a few areas in general. We cancelled zabeel zaray in Dubai because their pool was closed. Although the beach was beautiful, there were dead jellyfish everywhere and there wasn't any warnings, flags or anything in place to warn guests, which was poor. I've noticed that the construction work piled up by the day. On our last day, the drilling was so bad that it woke my baby up around the pool area. Maybe next time, instead of having the hotel open, just close it for a month and reopen once everything is done, we paid alot of money to go away for our holiday as do other guests and we certainly did not want to listen any drilling whatsoever. Overall hotel impression - the doors can do with some wd40, as they are very stiff. The lobby is beautifully designed. They need outside toilets. As I had to keep going into the tean or the white restaurant everytime I needed the toilet. Pool staff were nice and friendly. Some more than others. Look out for Johnson, who was very friendly and professional as was Vitali. Spa- the hotel had a promotion whilst we were there, so I thought I'd treat myself, it was amazing so I went twice. The spa is new and very tranquil. Aprilla who did my first treatment was lovely, professional and had the best hands. She managed to get rid of all my knots that had built up over the last 6 months. As lovely as Dewi was, who was my second therapist, she was 10 mins late and I was not offered the same welcome as I did the first time. Nevertheless, the treatments were very good. Overall, I would not come back to this hotel as I feel I have been lied to regarding the amount of construcrion work they had going on. The front desk staff needs serious training who I'm sure will get there with time. Read less
