Fairmont Ajman

Ajman, United Arab Emirates

Virgin rating

The hotel

Fairmont’s fabulous outpost in Ajman, this luxury beachfront retreat brings all the glamorous décor, gourmet dining, and grand amenities you’d expect from a Fairmont — in a setting you might not expect in the UAE. The next big name in the emirates, Ajman may be 30 minutes from Dubai, but it’s poles apart in its subtlety and serenity. The Fairmont’s arrival to its palm-swept beachline signals Ajman’s ready to compete with its neighbours. A grand getaway, it brings eight restaurants and lounges (taking you from Italy to the Caribbean), an infinity pool fringing a private stretch of sand, and an activity list that covers everyone in the family, from those after spa treatments to those who’d prefer splashing about on a floating off-shore water park (and even little guests who’d prefer making sandcastles at their kids’ club).

This is a nice hotel in a good location. Spacious, well equipped, clean suite with amazing sea view. Friendly, hardworking staff. We had an issue over our food allowance which was sorted quickly by Mayada who followed up with us to ensure we hadn’t had any further issues. Hotel provides a free shuttle bus which is a useful way to get out and about. The hotel doesn’t provide a true all inclusive package as drinks aren’t available in all bars (XOLO and Spectrum Lobby Lounge) and AI meals are only available in the Spectrum restaurant although you have an allowance which varies from tour operator to tour operator, which can be used unlimitedly in the other three restaurants. There is a good choice of food in all restaurants, we chose to eat in the a la carte restaurants most days as preferred them to the buffet restaurant. The only real negative about this hotel is the lack of sun-bed policy and the issuing of pool towels. There are plenty of sun-beds available, however pool towels are issued freely with no limitations on number given out which means guests reserve beds both on the beach and at the pool, sometimes reserving them in the morning but not actually using them until late afternoon thus causing a shortage of beds for other guests arriving throughout the day. Several guests told us that they’d ‘tipped’ the pool staff to reserve them a sun-bed first thing in the morning whether they were going to use it or not. We saw a number of occasions where guests had checked out but their usual sun-bed had still been reserved by pool staff. When we pointed this practice out to the management team they denied having knowledge of this but everyone else was aware of it! A few tweaks which would make this a true 5 star hotel: Replace the reusable glasses at the pool bar as the current ones have seen better days Replace the paper cups in the rooms and suites with china cups and glasses Some low key evening entertainment as there is currently none Unified/consistent dress code in the restaurants (pool shorts and flip-flops are not appropriate attire in the evening) Overall we had a lovely holiday. Would we return? Probably not. Read less

Very comfortable, great facilities and nice staff. Spacious room and very well maintained common areas. Small, but nice beach area. Many included activities like, yoga, aqua gym, etc. The half board could be better as you feel cheap when they say you can only order 1 drink…

After 6 years we have finally went on a vacation to United Arab Emirates so this was our very first experience with this country. Immediatelly after our arrival they welcomed us, unloaded our luggage. The receptionist introduced us, explained everything and was very welcoming and kind to us. They showed us where our room is, gave us a tour around our room, explained everything, answered questions. Meanwhile our luggage was delivered directly to our room. The room itself seemed to be clean. There is a coffee maker with coffee capsules, tea (resupplied every day by housekeeping), kettle, paper cups all part of all inclusive. Just the lamp on the desk, the switch was broken so it was kind of difficult to turn the lamp on but we didn't need it anyway. The water pressure in shower was nowhere near as strong as to what we are used to at home but it was still ok. The food was good. Even tho they serve a lot of spicy food. Not everything is spicy but some might not like spicy food at all. We expected richer buffet but there is still enough to choose from. The cakes and sweets are delicious tho. Best we ever had. And a lot to choose from. There were some days when we had to wait for cutlery and/or glasses/cups to be resupplied. So that was a little annoying. Also when you wanted beer or some beverage other than coffee or juice, you have to order it. And usually it took quite a while before they delivered. We ordered and before we got the beer we almost ate all of our food other than desserts. I have read some reviews stating the pool water is muggy or milky and that it is not cleaned. We can say this was not the case during our visit in september. The water was crystal clean and it was cleaned every single day once the pool is closed. We could see people cleaning the pool every day. There is no sand in the pool which just proves it is cleaned thoroughly as people usually go from beach in the pool without properly washing all the sand off their legs. The only downside about the pool is that there was some tiles missing in the pool walls and some places. It wasn't too bad but you would stumble upon some missing tile here and there. There is a bar that is partly accessible from pool and partly from the ground on the other side where you could sit at a table and have the ordered drinks/food delivered to you. The bar was usually kind of busy. Especially when it opened at 11am. So you are waiting several minutes just to order. The personnel was always working, always taking orders and pouring drinks but since there is only one bar for the pool and beach area, it was busy. Having a second bar dedicated to the beach would help. Maybe there is a lack of workforce? I don't know. The beach is very nice. They write some kind of message in the sand every day. Something like "Good morning" or "Happy sunday" and stuff. Or even wish a happy anniversary to some couple accomodated here. That is a nice little touch and makes you wonder what they wrote the next day you wake up. The beach was clean, sea was very clean with lots of sea life visible. Fishes visibly swimming in the water everywhere. They never bit us during our 14 day stay tho. There are also little crabs hidden in the stones on either sides of the beach. They don't bother you tho. If they see you, they just hide in the stones. People usually walk around the stones and try to spot one or two. Lifeguards are always present. There is a helipad on one side of the beach where people are not allowed to go to but there is no sign saying you can't go there so people go there and either enjoy the view or take pictures and the lifeguard makes them go away from there, blowing whistle to get their attention. I get that but why is there no sign saying you can't go there? Every single day several people go there and the lifeguard has to make them go away from there. Please, put a sign there. Twice a day they have some kind of workout there. They play some music and one or two ladies are dancing and people in the pool dance along with them. Also later in the day (around 4pm) they have some yoga on said helipad and you can also join them for free. Other that that, there is no more entertainment happening. During our first week, there were no water sports and nothing else. The second week, water sports were available. Mainly water skis tho. Also they have some kind of inflatable obstacle course floaitng on the sea and you can go on that for free. You just have to get a lifejacket from the lifeguard and write your room number and sign a paper. If you enjoy long walks along the beach, this would disappoint you. You can take a walk along this hotel's beach and the neighboring hotel beach. No further as there is construction happening on one side and blocked on the other side. The hotel offers a free of charge shuttle bus to Dubai mall, Ajman mall and Abu Dhabi. In summary, we enjoyed our vacation. The hotel is very big, beautiful and personnel was very friendly and kind. I'd like to mention miss Ramna that showed us our table during breakfast and lunch and she was always very kind with a beautiful smile. On my last day there I had a massage in the wellbeing wellness. The masseuse Anik (I didn't write the name down so hopefully I remember it right) was also very kind and friendly and explained all she could. Thank you. If you don't require huge resort with a ton of activities, several pools and bars and evening musical entertainment, I'd recommend this hotel. Read less
