Unfortunately worst hotel we’ve stayed in Dubai over 15 years. It opened in 1981 and it shows. Not to Dubai standards and made worse by all inclusive clientele. Hygiene also a problem in room and restaurants. If you want a 1980s package holiday experience…

I booked a room at the Beach Hotel for myself and my mum who was over to visit me after 15 months apart to celebrate my 30th Birthday. The hotel is in a lovely location with beautiful grounds! We were welcomed into the hotel very nicely by the staff on reception. On reaching our room one of the pictures above the bed was hanging off the wall which we readjusted and the balcony wasn’t clean, we had to wipe down the table/chairs and top of the glass barrier. As a UAE resident I do recognise that you can clean a balcony and the next minute it’s covered in sand again but this included bird droppings. We enjoyed spending the afternoon on the beach where we tried to book a table in one of the restaurant, the QR code that we were given to book through only came up with a room service menu, we tried to book them through the website, but it didn’t work, and through calling nobody answered. We thought we would stop by reception on the way back to the room to make a reservation instead. When we did it was unfortunate to hear the restaurant we would have like to eat at was fully booked. When we returned to the room our key wouldn’t work. We came back down to reception and the lady behind the desk apologised and did something to the key and handed it back. When we reached our room the door again would not unlock. We returned to reception a second time where we were told that our key must have been close to my phone and deactivated it. I reassured the man that this was not true and the key had been nowhere near my phone. He said he would use a master key to check. We went back to the room, again, and the master key didn’t work either. The man asked us to return to reception so we could wait for an engineer. We returned to reception for a 3rd time where we waited in our beach wear for over 20 minutes when people were dressed in their evening attire heading to their dinner reservations. When the engineer arrived we headed back to the room, I was told a second time that I shouldn’t put my key card next to my phone! Shocked I said that this wasn’t true, not only did my key not work but neither did the master key. The engineer also couldn’t get the key cards to work. He used a different key to open the door and let us in but he asked us to wait in our room till he could fix it as he needed to go and get something. When he returned, after a few more failed attempts one of the key cards started to work. The other one still didn’t so we were asked to just use this one. We were finally able to get showered from the beach at 7:45pm after first of all heading to the room from the beach at 6:30pm. We then felt very rushed to get ready in time to make it to a restaurant that still had space before it became too late for us to eat. Again, whilst I appreciate things go wrong, like a key not working, I don’t think it was handled in a great way, we could have been offered a room to stay in to shower whilst we wait rather than sitting in reception after spending a day on the beach, we could have had more support finding a restaurant with availability after waiting so long to get into our room, we could have not been accused twice of keeping the key with the phone which was untrue or we could have been offered something to compensate for the situation that was out of our control. The only thing we got was a ‘I’m very sorry about your wait’ from the receptionist. In the end we went to the pub on the marina, which wasn’t our first choice as it had the football on but allowed us to sit down and have a meal. The food and the cocktails were lovely, in particular the Love Story. The breakfast in the morning was really nice and we spent the morning by the pool before checking out at 12. My intention was to speak to the receptionist about what had happened the night before but we were not even asked if we had enjoyed our stay, or how was our stay?. We just had to pay the bill and that was that. This was my second time at JA the resort and I didn’t think it would be our last but I do not think that the situations we unfortunately found ourselves in were handled in the correct manner.
