My elderly parents in law say you should never return to special holiday places. I scoffed at this old world view, surely intelligent people know the way the wind is turning and will avoid disappointment. I was wrong. I have been coming to Dubai on holiday since the Burj was a block of concrete in the sea and have marvelled at how much construction work can be squeezed into the finite space the Jumeirah group controls around the Madinat, Now, however, all pockets of tranquility have disappeared. We arrived just in time to see the wrecking ball remove the gym block at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, and the area which used to be the marina, is to become a multi storey hotel. At the other end of the beach, a smaller, unspecified construction project, is squeezing the beach area from the other end. In an attempt to drive volume the Jumeirah group has clearly sacrificed quality. Some examples might seem trivial, however if you are paying upwards of £800 a night for a room, an unpublicised switch from champagne to Cava in the winter season feels not only mean but insulting. The retail outlets in the Souk Madinat have gone down-market. What used to be fine dining restaurants now appear to be serving mass market pub food. Overall, the gloss on what was a remarkable success story has dulled. The world is a big place and if you are spending what is a considerable amount on a destination billed as a luxury brand then is should do what it says on the tin. It doesn’t. Read less

Spent a great family holiday at the Dr Al Masyaf in Villa 11. Great location . Amazing choice of places to eat. Beautiful room excellent staff. Will certainly visit again. The activities suited all ages with plenty of choice of things to do. Don't leave the property if it pours with rain. Dubai has no infrastructure to cope with heavy rainfall.
