The hotel

This Polynesian-themed resort, Sofitel Dubai The Palm is a luxurious, sumptuous accommodation complemented by a range of world-class facilities, including first port of call, the SoSPA, to take advantage of the many treatments designed to get you in the holiday mood! There is also a great choice of fabulous swimming pools to choose from or grab a towel and claim your space on the hotel’s own private stretch of beach. At the beach, indulge in myriad water sports or simply soak up the sun whilst getting stuck into a good book – pure bliss! There are plenty of accommodation options but whatever you decide upon, all boast their own private balcony, the perfect place we think to enjoy a spot of breakfast or a cocktail at sundown. My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights on the final leg of our honeymoon in early October. We had opted to upgrade to the Luxury Room with King Bed, Private Beach access and Sea View at a cost of £298.19 per night. Initial impressions were fantastic, even just the beautifully scented hotel and excellent air conditioning on entering from the searing heat. On arrival to our room we were very disappointed with our supposed Sea View, as you can see from the attached picture, you can just about see a little bit of the sea between the trees and really the view was of the hotels front forecourt with hundreds of cars and taxis arriving throughout the day. The room also specifies private beach access as an extra selling point but this private beach is the same beach made available to all guests - because of these points we feel very short changed & paying the extra money for the upgrade was wasted...... There were a few other shortcomings with the room such as our TV not working for the first two days until fixed, the radio wouldn't tune to any stations and the scales in the bathroom also didn't work, nothing too major but very simple things to check before guests arrive. The hotel itself and the facilities are great, the beach area was perfect with the balmy waters of the Persian Gulf at 29dc during our stay. The staff throughout the hotel were brilliant, particularly at the beach. The bed and shower in the room were up there with the best we've had in a hotel room. One thing that goes against the hotel are the hyper-inflated prices of food, drink & activities. Although this is a Palm wide problem, the prices are much higher than those available around the Dubai Mall etc. For example a can of Pepsi will cost you £6.60, the cheapest bottle of wine will set you back £50 or a small tube of M&Ms will set you back £11.50! Extortionate. Jump in a well priced government taxi and eat elsewhere as dinner is another ball game all together. All in all we loved our trip to Dubai and, yes the hotel is great but it lacks any great value for money. The hotel is worthy of its 5 star rating for facilities & staff. Read less

I consider UAE my second country but I have to be honest for the reviewers & for the sake of the resort itself. We have been in n many high-end resorts in Maldives, South-East Asia & Mauritius. Let’s start with check-in which was the first disappointment as it has nothing to do with a 5 stars resort. It is very outdated process & it can be very slow & frustrating depending on your luck. In one of high end resort for example we didn’t even see the reception as we were greeted by a dedicated stuff member who offered us a welcome drink & mini tour around the resort till our room without the need to wait in a queue(sorry but we’re talking about 5 stars resort). The room ( Palm view ) was perfect & spacious with stunning view & the room service was impeccable. The breakfast had different varieties but repetitive and very very crowded and to be fair they are managing the crowd efficiently as never had to wait for a table or coffee. The facilities were very clean and well kept with very amusing swimming pool but crowded again. I recommend to book cabana at the pool to enjoy and avoid very far sun beds. Spa is perfect with professional stuff. The restaurants are very nice but pricey even for 5 stars hotel. Very good kid’s club as our daughter enjoyed her time but again we experienced different kids clubs in other resorts at the same level which have more activities for little ones like swimming lessons, crab hunting and even meals. Some mismanagement at laguna beach bar as we ordered shisha and at middle of our smoking & drinking one of the stuff told us it’s not allowed to have shisha if you have a kid( they didn’t tell us from the beginning ) and to ad insult to injury we paid for it. The last shock was during checkout when we tried to set the bill. The line for check in was intimidating which is going to take ages to set up the bill & definitely missing our flight. I talked to the concierge & other personnel and told me they don’t have any solution except for waiting the line although it was not even check in time ( 9 o’clock am). I asked for the manager and after about 10 minutes someone came took me to another disk and saved my life. Overall, I am confident anyone will have a good time as we did and some of my points would not bother other guests as this my personal preferences but for people who used to high end resorts they would easily identify some pitfalls. I recommend this resort not as 5 stars but as 4. Finally, the staff are amazing with no exception. Read less

We searched around looking carefully at the different choices and narrowed it down to Sofitel Dubai The Palm. We are so glad we picked this Hotel to stay at, it was perfect. The staff are friendly, we especially enjoyed eating in the World Eatery, the staff where so attentive. We made the most of the All Inclusive and saved a fortune on drinks, I would well recommend this option if you are staying for around a week+. We also upgraded our room to the Junior Suite, which was perfect well worth the extra money. I couldn’t fault this hotel, we will be back in the near future. Read less
