This hotel trades on its name ONLY - to create a reputation for being a LUXURY hotel. Both DH and I were VERY disappointed in our recent stay at Herods Tel Aviv. When we arrived, I had to ask the hotel personnel, who were standing at the door, right in front of our car, which we were very obviously unloading, to please bring us a cart for the luggage. Then, after we checked in, we had to bring the cart ourselves up to the room - and it was a struggle to get the cart into the small elevators. When we arrived at our room, the door was very difficult to open due to how HEAVY it was, and then we discovered that we could not bring the cart into the room as it was SMALL. The bed was nicely made and the sheets and covers were clean. The room was clean. The AC works but only if the doors (to the hallway and to the terrace) are CLOSED. Otherwise it shuts off. There was a luggage rack tucked into the closet but nowhere practical to put it, opened in the room. The closet was difficult to open and close as the sliding doors were extremely "sticky" inside the slide rail. For some reason the hangrail for hanging clothing had been removed and rehung, a such a low level that I could not hang any dresses on it - they would drag on the floor. And the safe, was installed on the FLOOR of the closet, necessitating getting down on one's hands and knees in order to use it. There was an iron and board in the closet - nice to have, but in the way of hanging clothing, so I had to remove it and stick it into a corner of the room to get it out of the way. The bathroom was well appointed and clean but not well thought out. The door constantly pushed the floor towel out of place. The walk in shower with rainfall showerhead was nice but there were no safety grab bars in place. There was also no place to hang clothes, swimsuits, towels to dry. One light in the bathroom was out. The electric outlet in the bathroom was nonfunctioning (no reset button either). There is a TINY fridge - but it doesn't keep anything cold! We went down to the pool - the pool area is small and narrow. It was FILTHY! We found broken glass all over the floor in one area and soggy disgusing cigarette butts on the floor as well. The pool is salt water rather than chlorine and when one emerges from the pool one's body is STICKY. The floor of the pool could use a good scrubbing. The pool is scheduled to open at 8 am but the workers first arrive at 8 am and begin the prep work of making the pool ready for swimmers. So, even though I arrived at the scheduled opening time, I could not enter the pool for nearly an HOUR! Breakfast was awful but I guess I cannot blame them - it is the fault of the Covid-19 pandemic. The staff was very rude, did not cooperate, did not provide any answers to simple question as like when the room is expected to be ready. The reception staff were helding private phone conversations and let us wait for them. Malfunctioning remote were fixed after hours of calls to the recpetionist. Our room keys were coded wrong and did not allow our return from the sea via the back gate. We had to walk 400 meters to main entry. The suite was dirty, pillows disgusting, carpets and sofa disgusting and the sofa broken. The bed was broken and made sleep challenging. The coffe machine was so dirty and unusable. Disgusting. The towels of the lowest quality as well as the toiletery. Breakfast was horible and of the lowest quality we have seen in the simplest guest houses. We regret we choose that hotel. We noted that the reviews in Fattal site are all dated same date, and look fictious and unrelated. The customer relations did not responded only until I sent via post an urgent telegram to the hotel manager. For almost 500$ for a single night - it is a crime. Read less

I stayed at this discount property for one night. Prior to my arrival I wanted to make a special request, so I reached out to this 3-star beachfront hotel well in advance through the booking app. No response. A few days before my stay I reached out again. No response. I figured I'd try to call the day of my arrival. The front desk didn't answer my first call. On my second, third, fourth, and fifth attempts, the person at the phone simply picked up the receiver and hung up again, as the ringing phone must have been bothersome to them. I then tried the only other option on the voice menu - reservations, where a representative proceeded to yell at me for not realizing that it was up to me to find a way to reach the hotel, and that it wasn't the job of the reservations center. He then hung up on me. Things weren't any better while I was in my room. There was a minor problem with my room so I tried to phone the front desk (there was no phone directory in the room so I just assumed that if I dialed 0 I would get somewhere, and since there was no directory I couldn't phone maintenance directly). After trying for 20 minutes without success I took the elevator down and saw that there was a line. I gave up and took a bath instead. Later at night I stopped by at the front desk (there was no line) to make a request and was told, in passing, that another guest had made a scene because they couldn't get any service from the front desk by phone. The receptionist then said that since the management of the hotel wouldn't listen to her requests for additional staff, she doesn't see how a complaint made by the guest would make a difference. And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. A hotel employee saying clearly what I have been experiencing: the hotel is understaffed. As far as management is concerned, they would rather not provide any service to guests. Let them stay at the hotel, visit the pool, dine at the restaurant - as long as they don't speak to us, as long as we don't have to offer service or assistance. Don't answer the phone, have a perpetual line at the front desk, surely some guests would simply give up. I can only imagine what it must be like to order room service here. You still have to go through the front desk, right? There was no other number to call. Nor was there a menu anywhere to be found in the room. Can you imagine waiting for 20 minutes to be answered when you're hungry, asking an overworked receptionist to read out the menu options for you to choose from? I should point out that whenever I did manage to speak to a human being at the front desk, I was given friendly, professional, and prompt assistance. So it's not a problem with training or skills or attitude, and employees did seem focused and dedicated to their work. It was management's decision to have too few of them. I bet they are underpaid, too. Here is some free business advice for management: designate Herods as a 3-star self-service hotel. Have guests check themselves in, set up an app for communicating with housekeeping, maintenance, and room service. Once guests have lower expectations, they will surely appreciate what the hotel has to offer - adequate (albeit dated and not entirely clean) rooms and great views of the Mediterranean. What an embarrassment. Read less

Mattress wasnt very comfortable - a bit too soft for my liking. Bathroom s very small but has everything needed, and the towels and robes are very soft and delicate. we were in a north facing room so it could become a bit noisy from the swimming pool and the Atarim square below. Non-Smoking policy is not enforced so there is a strong smell of cigarettes in the hallway. when i requested to check our in the evening before departure as we needed t leave quickly in the morning, the front desk told me that they do not do early checkouts....it was a bit surprising as in all hotels I've been to they do this whithout a problem Parking is a nightmare !!!
