The hotel

Where is it

On the Cambridge banks of the Charles River and across from the 100 shops at CambridgeSide Galleria. Within easy walking distance also of the Lechmere Metro for venturing the short distance to downtown. Transfer time from Boston Logan International Airport: 10 minutes.

City Explorer rooms are 170 sq ft and are ideal for the solo traveller, featuring partial river views and 1 queen-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 people. 

City View rooms are 250-275 sq ft, with either 1 king-size bed, 2 queen-size beds, or 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 people. 

Partial River View rooms are 250-275 sq ft, with either 1 king-size bed, 2 queen-size beds, or 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 people.

River View rooms are 250-275 sq ft, with either 1 king-size bed, 2 queen-size beds, or 2 double beds, sleeping maximum 4 people.

River View balcony rooms are the same as above, with the addition of a private Juliet balcony.

Executive Studio Suites feaure a separate lounge and dining area, some with a pull-out queen-size sofa bed, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 4 people. 

Panorama Corner rooms offer sweeping views of the Charles river and the Boston skyline from the two sides of windows, and 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 people.

One Bedroom Suites feature a separate living room with dining table and a pull out sofa bed, and bedroom with 1 king-size bed, sleeping maximum 4 people. 

Royal Two Bedroom Suites are located on premium floors with the best views of the river and the Boston skyline, featuring a separate living room with dining table and a pull out sofa bed, master bedroom with 1 king-size bed, and second bedroom with two queen-size beds, sleeping maximum 8 people. Both bedrooms have their own bathroom. 

ArtBar (restaurant serving seasonal American fare, with riverside seating and art-lined interior, as well as heated private igloos during the winter, open for dinner daily and all-day dining at weekends). 

Indoor swimming pool with seasonal sun deck. 24-hour fitness centre. Jogging trail.

Hotel is in a great location, especially if you like to walk or run, as it is right on the pathway along the Charles River. Staff was super friendly and the hotel was very clean and well maintained. I have recommended the hotel to other people since I stayed there. If in the area again, I would definitely stay at the hotel.

The Royal Sonesta in Boston is nestled between downtown Boston and Cambridge, so its location is hard to beat, especially if your trip involves visiting both locations. However, there are several areas of opportunity. Housekeeping took a while to make the room. I had to request this three times in order to get it done. Wi-Fi was very deficient. I was in the West tower, third floor, and I never got decent signal. The lobby had decent signal, and I had to work there. The room itself looks rather old for the price I paid, I would expect a newer and nicer room for the same rate. Read less

This is absolutely the worst stay I have ever had. I have been an international traveler for more than 15 years and never had I had to through what happened at this hotel. We booked a stay through Expedia and when we arrived, the extremely rude front desk employees told us there weren’t any room available for us and because we booked through Expedia they weren’t going to accommodate us. Because they never sent us notification that no room were available, it was too late for us to find another hotel. We ended up spending a night in a roller bed, the bed was probably not washed since it was dirty and had a horrible smell, not to mention the quality of the bed. No top of that, this hotel refused to apologize for their action. Don’t ever book a stay here, for someone in the hospitality business, they sure were doing a horrible job. Read less

The bathroom was just meh similar to what a regular motel offers with poor water pressure, the hallways are desperately in need of a facelift, the safe looked like it lost a fight with a spring-breaker, yet y’all have the gall to charge $5 for water? Absolutely frustrating experience. Ruined our day with multiple issues, including parking misguidance, no wifi connection in room, and outdated room reservation system. Profit blinded hotel that rents out monthly parking spots inside hotel externally while having shortage of spots for hotel guests. Had us park at a mall parking lot across a 4+ lane freeway with very confusing directions making us pay unnecessarily. Booked two rooms but gave us rooms at opposite building towers. Unhelpful front desk staff telling us each and everything is above their level and beyond their control. No efforts to resolve or help guests. Vacation and cost better spent elsewhere… Read less
