The good - The property is beautiful. The rooms are large. The rug added an elegance to the room. Most of the staff working there are lovely. The bad - The service is really bad. We asked for housekeeping the second day. No response. We asked for extra towels, toothbrush, and pillows the next day. Got a “right away!” response. 6 hours later - nothing. The light bulb blew out in the bathroom. Asked that it be replaced. Got a “on our way!”reply. 5 hours later - nothing. Called the front desk manager. She was apologetic and said they would bring the things to the room “right away!” 2 hours later they arrived by being placed in a pile in the corner of the room. As we were leaving around noon we saw piles and piles of room service trays full of old food stacked up in a corner on the floor by the elevator. It looked like they were from many rooms and had been left by the entry for a while. Yuck. You can get better food at IHOP. We ate at the Bistro for breakfast. The jam jars were used and half empty. The glasses had gross creamy substances smeared on them. The coffee was cold and tasted burnt. The smells from the kitchen smelled like old grease. The staff were arguing with one another and seems like they wanted to be anywhere but there. I asked to speak with the manager. I was told “right away!” Nothing for 48 hours. Note - the manager called me after I left the resort. He was friendly and service oriented. I very much appreciated the follow up. I usually love staying a the Ritz. Such a huge disappointment. Moved to a different hotel for the remainder of my stay. It’s been a much nicer experience now that I’m not there. Read less

When we initially walked into the lobby to register, it was crowded with people standing in line. No one to greet us, and no logical direction as to where to go to check in. (this is a Ritz Carlton?) The person checking us in directed us to our room which was downhill from the lobby: through 2 other buildings where we negotiated elevators or stairs - there was inferior signage. There was a simpler and faster way around the property which we used for the rest of our stay. (This property is huge- over 1/4 mile to our room from the entry) The room was attractive at first glance: ocean view and waves rolling in, but (1) the shutters on the windows made the room dark. They were operable, but when opened, they ran into the desk making the desk unusable, or ran into the corner grouping of furniture making that area unusable. (2) Overall the lighting was substandard: the corner lounge grouping had no table lamp BECAUSE there was no way to plug it in-no duplex outlet. There was a stone counter niche with no light and no duplex, so you could use the counter but good luck seeing your things; (3) the headboard had a tear in the fake leather, and there was no room for a bedside table on one side. The bedside "reading lights" were tiny spots in the ceiling, casting shadows on your reading material. The window in the bathroom was in the toilet compartment - great view from there, but when the door was closed there was no natural light in the shower/sink area. And if you opened the toilet compartment door to get natural light, the door ran into the counter making the counter unaccessible. The posted rate was $1,400/night-thankfully we did not pay that. This was our 35th wedding anniversary....what a monumental disappointment. On top of that, our car was repeatedly hit by we believe suitcases in the parking lot - it is so bad we have to get it fixed. Read less

The friendly and attentive service made our stay truly special. Quality of our service really stood out compared to other hotels during our stay, no small feat given the general labor of shortage. While a 20min drive from Santa Barbara, the resort offers many different complementary activities and various restaurants. We participated in the succulent potting activity where we were able to paint our pots while looking at the sea - a very peaceful and fun activity fir the whole family! We also participated in the complementary yoga classes - all with great instructors. Was also happy that The gym also has Pelotons. The landscaping and architecture are gorgeous in a Santa Barbara style. The sushi restaurant, Angel Oak and Latin O are all great restaurants and we appreciated the variety of options, For breakfast, there is either a buffet which is good but not extensive or there is a coffee shop with great simple options. We were also able to make s’mores using one of the hotel’s fire pits! Please be aware that the beach is not made for swimming due to to tar but there is a gorgeous view. Overall a great resort for the whole family with many things to do! Read less

This is the best Ritz that I have ever stayed as far as service and ambience are concerned. Lots of choices for dining! I had a regular room with a garden view.. very private and quiet. Zac at the front desk was especially helpful upon checking out. I would not hesitate to stay here again and cannot wait to book a return trip.. Read less
