No sooner have you stepped foot inside the Casa Madrona than you'll be embraced by the beauty and style of Sausalito with views across Richardson Bay and beyond always complimenting the refined sophistication of the hotel's intimate hillside setting. Breathtaking scenery aside, Sausalito is well-known as being a vibrant hub for artists and like-minded travellers with an abundance of stores, galleries and workshops adding to a charming seaside village atmosphere. The views are stunning. My husband and I came to escape the too hot weather in Sacramento area, and were not disappointed. Sausalito was in the high 60's low 70's with blue skies. The room overlooked the Yacht Harbor and having morning coffees in the plush terrycloth bathrobes was heaven. Shout out to the porter who works the day shift: very kind… Read more

We came to the Bay Area to visit our daughter and honestly ended up Sausilito and Casa Madrona rather randomly, but boy, were we pleasantly surprised. Everything about our stay there exceeded our expectations.

I was traveling with our 9 month old, clearly carrying a rolling suitcase and his stroller. Our room was located up a small staircase that required me to leave my baby in my room while I carried his stroller up and down. The front desk did not inform me of this obstacle upon arrival so I did not preemptively ask for help and to traverse down to the first floor from the fourth floor with everything in tow to ask for help was too much. There was no elevator to this room, as pictured below. Then, later that evening, the elevator broke down and I had to carry my baby down to the first floor from the fourth floor to get my food order. While I was waiting for the order, another couple came in with a baby. They asked if their room would have a separate seating area with a wall for their infant so they could allow the baby to sleep. Kaylee (not sure of the spelling) at the front desk was unable to fully answer this and just said “I think so.” She was clearly overwhelmed with other things, so I understand her response that brushed the couple off, but the couple also deserved her time and attention. I share this because this is the second family with a baby who stayed the same time I did. We were not accommodated at all and were not given complete information at the front desk about our room situations. We ended up changing hotels for our second night. We were not refunded for this second night (we were only requesting second night refund). Very disappointed with the way the hotel did not take ownership for this. They advised I leave a review. So here I am. I highly recommend staying elsewhere if you are traveling with family or if you need specific accommodations. They do not personalize anyone’s experience and there are too many idiosyncrasies in the hotel to overcome. Read less

My husband and I, both originally from the Bay Area, moved to Grass Valley a few years ago. As some of you may know, the summers in Grass Valley are hot as the Devil's armpit. We actually use a more colorful term - you can use your imagination. So we booked a long weekend at Casa Madrona in the Hillside Guest House (lower level). Worth every penny, and we made use of the full kitchen. Although it does not have a deck, the living room overlooks the marina and the windows open wide to let in the cool ocean breeze and calls of the seagulls. We spent more than a Happy Hour sipping our wine and just watching all of the activity down below. Sausalito gets pretty crowded on the weekends so it was our little oasis on the hill, far removed from the bustle below. Plus waking distance to many great restaurants. But the elevator ride then three flights of stairs is not for the weak of heart, though you could drive to the top of the hotel where the parking is and drop someone off if you had to. And yes, have to agree with some other reviewers that the bed was like a rock. A classy hotel such as this one should surely be able to invest in some good beds. Regardless, we enjoyed ourselves immensely and will be back. The hotel and room were beautiful and clean, loved the friendly valet employees, and sitting outside for a meal down below the hotel at Poggio was a delight. And the weather - divine. Usually the bay is foggy in the summer (the City was fogged in) and sunny in the fall, but Sausalito is on the edge of the fog line. When they get it, it usually burns off and has the added benefit of keeping it cooler than, say, nearby Marin. Just a beautiful spot to spend time in, perfectly removed from the craziness of the city. Read less

We have stayed at Casa Madrona a number of times and love the uniqueness of the hotel and rooms.
