Grand Canyon Western Ranch

Grand Canyon, USA

The hotel

The great ranches of the Old West are considered time capsules of the American frontier and certainly you’ll get an incredible sense of history at the Grand Canyon Western Ranch, once home to Tap Duncan, a notorious gunfighter turned reputable member of society. Today, genuine pine cabin accommodation comes complete with antique cowboy bathtub, where you can literally immerse yourself in the past! The Historic Ranch House serves up authentic western home-style cooking with live cowboy entertainment to accompany your meal. There’s also an overnight campout on offer, riding first through the Joshua Tree-lined Mormon Trail. Alternatively, join a guided horseback or wagon ride and see the buffalo, the icon of the West. There's also the option to take a 20-minute Helicopter Tour from the Ranch to and inside the Grand Canyon and back. Come sundown, join your fellow cowboys and cowgirls round the campfire, toast marshmallows and listen to the songs that helped make the West famous.

We arrived on Thursday 7/9 at 3pm, hottest part of the day in the blazing sun. I think the temp was 114 that day. We were the only people checked in, no other guests on the property. After a very bland check in experience with Reba we went to our cabin which only had one small window unit and it was struggling. The cabin was small but cute and comfortable for my family of three. All three of crowded under the window unit AC trying to get a signal on our phones, no internet, no wifi, no TV and barley any AC we debated leaving for better accommodations. We were heading to Grand Canyon West (Skyrim) first thing Friday morning so we decided to tough it out and rough it. After our previous night at the Beliago in Vegas this was ROUGH. We headed over the to main house for dinner at 7pm and were surprised to see a local couple had stopped to have dinner. Cowboy Dave sang and told stories which completely captivated my 11 year old, they were instant buddies. Reba was also the chef that night, my son ordered a grilled cheese, my husband a cheese burger and I ordered chicken tenders. Not sure if it was just me or a local thing but I was expecting breaded chicken fingers? What I got was a grilled chicken breast cut into strips with chips as a side. I also felt very much like we were bothering Reba but making her have to cook. the grilled cheese and cheeseburger were good. The campfire and Cowboy Dave WERE THE HIGHLIGHT of our 10 day trip of the Southwest, I never knew that is what stars were supposed to look like, it was AMAZING. We were pleasantly surprised to wake up freezing the next morning LOL We headed over for breakfast at 8am nervous of what would get after my chicken mix-up the night before but I was say the cowboy breakfast of a biscuit, scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns was Delicious. Maybe breakfast is Reba's thing. Overall I would say you visit for the experience not the accommodations and I hope that Cowboy Dave is there because my son is still talking about him weeks later. We were on a 3 week tour of the southwest U.S. After visiting Lake Powell and before arriving at Las Vegas we stopped at the Grand Canyon's West rim. We wanted to rest before seeing the canyon so we searched for a place as close as possible to the canyon. We are glad we found Grand Canyon West ranch. This place provided much needed for our kids to run lose, roll on the dirt, play games, see animals, rise horses after being strapped to car seats for hours. We stayed in a larger cabin perfect for my family. The outside temperature was hot but the cabin's A/C was able to keep up. They treated us like family. One of my kids remembers the horse rides as the best part of the trip. I recommend for families that are visiting the canyon and want to stay as close as possible the night before. Read less
