Grand Canyon Western Ranch

Grand Canyon, USA

The hotel

The great ranches of the Old West are considered time capsules of the American frontier and certainly you’ll get an incredible sense of history at the Grand Canyon Western Ranch, once home to Tap Duncan, a notorious gunfighter turned reputable member of society. Today, genuine pine cabin accommodation comes complete with antique cowboy bathtub, where you can literally immerse yourself in the past! The Historic Ranch House serves up authentic western home-style cooking with live cowboy entertainment to accompany your meal. There’s also an overnight campout on offer, riding first through the Joshua Tree-lined Mormon Trail. Alternatively, join a guided horseback or wagon ride and see the buffalo, the icon of the West. There's also the option to take a 20-minute Helicopter Tour from the Ranch to and inside the Grand Canyon and back. Come sundown, join your fellow cowboys and cowgirls round the campfire, toast marshmallows and listen to the songs that helped make the West famous.

Once you figure out that the long desolate ride from Vegas' highways to the ranch is legit, you are on your way to a great trip. Our cabin was clean and cozy, and the air was on when we arrived for our late June visit. The menu is simple but yummy - it is a dude ranch! Singing with Cowboy Casey at the bonfire and roasting marshmallows was nice and he makes it fun for the whole family. Casey has also been there forever and can give great insight into excursions, stories, etc. The highlight for us was the sunset horseback ride with champagne and a cute cowboy, Wendell. My friend had never been on a horse before and they helped us saddle up and feel comfortable. If you're nervous, ask for the sweet horse, Millie. John the cowboy was great too, and you can take a wagon ride as well. There are two baby buffalo and several others that we saw on our ride. The water is pure and delicious, you can drink right from your room and they always offer ice cold water at the "mess hall". Food can get pricey if you have a large family, so bringing a few snacks may help but there is no fridge, microwave, or TV in the cabin. Easy access to the Skywalk and met lots of great people from all over the world. Read less

The cabins are quaint. They do have AC which mattered a lot in the heat! We took the sunset horseback ride which I would highly recommend and found Arizona Casey to be a highlight of our stay too! He sang to us at every meal, on the horseback ride, around the campfire and taught my son to lasso! My daughter loved petting the horses and the cats. We went to the Sky Walk one day, swam in South Cove one afternoon and just relaxed a lot! Read less

So much fun! The thing that made the trip is the cowboys! Casey, Dave, John and Wendell 100% made the trip! The campfires, mealtime and horseback rides were so relaxing and fun. There is no explaining the clear skies and the music by the campfire. We spent a week in Arizona, but the two days here were by far our favorite

Without a doubt, my family had an awesome >24 hr. stay at this place. It is the closest lodging to the Grand Canyon Skywalk, and that is how we came to make a reservation but what a treat we got. Cowboy "Arizona Casey" (he is in the restaurant photo with a guitar on their website) met us as we drove up and immediately connected with my 10 y.o. grandson. He took him nearby to teach throwing a lasso. We went on the sunset horseback ride, campfire s'more activity, and dining - all recommended. He was at each with his guitar, jokes, and stories. He was a gracious man that made our short stay very special. Read less

My wife and I spent the night here in a cabin and what a wonderful time we had. Very nice people and fun activities. Food was good. Wagon ride was fun and seeing 10 day old Buffalo was highlight. We only was at ranch for about 24 hours and wish we would of stayed 2 or 3 days. Just resting on cabin porch was sooooooo relaxing. We will go back… Read more
