Grand Canyon Western Ranch

Grand Canyon, USA

The hotel

The great ranches of the Old West are considered time capsules of the American frontier and certainly you’ll get an incredible sense of history at the Grand Canyon Western Ranch, once home to Tap Duncan, a notorious gunfighter turned reputable member of society. Today, genuine pine cabin accommodation comes complete with antique cowboy bathtub, where you can literally immerse yourself in the past! The Historic Ranch House serves up authentic western home-style cooking with live cowboy entertainment to accompany your meal. There’s also an overnight campout on offer, riding first through the Joshua Tree-lined Mormon Trail. Alternatively, join a guided horseback or wagon ride and see the buffalo, the icon of the West. There's also the option to take a 20-minute Helicopter Tour from the Ranch to and inside the Grand Canyon and back. Come sundown, join your fellow cowboys and cowgirls round the campfire, toast marshmallows and listen to the songs that helped make the West famous.

Recently I signed up for a holiday at your ranch, excited to see american history. Sadly it was a huge let down, due to the driver employed by your company. So there is no confusion - his name is KEVIN. Waiting at our hotel, we noticed just how many Grand Canyon tours were available we asked a few drivers if they were going to your ranch. Noticing your advertisement on the transport, we wave to the driver . As we approached, the driver just stared at us and didn't speak. I inquired if we had the right company, and he pointed at the graphic and said sarcastically, " What does it say right here on the van? Kinda hard to miss the big writing and picture, right?". The driver opened the sliding door and said, "Alright get in.", and slammed the door. He never told us his name or spoke pleasantly the entire 2 hour drive. At the Hoover Dam, he stopped, and told us to exit, as he pointed to where we should walk to see a bridge, and stated we had 20 minutes to get back because the van leaves at that time. After the dam we continued onward, the air vent blew floating dog hair on us and our nice clothing, because the driver brought along a shedding dog. We brought it to the drivers attention and he just said, " I always bring my dog to the ranch and no one else complains about it. There's not THAT much hair.". The ranch itself was incredible. Your drawback was KEVIN ! Full of ARROGANCE, SARCASM, CONDESCENSION, and complete lack of respect to guests.... the reason for your company success. Read less

Well organised trip from vegas, the buses were comfortable and air conditioned, stop off at the hoover dam was worth the trouble, I couldn’t believe the size of the man made structure, it was amazing and so big. Pictures were a must. Plenty of cold water was welcome free on this bus, which was a nice touch I thought. Got to the ranch in good time, bout 2 half hours. Don’t be fooled when we pulled into the ranch it was hot, checked in and sorted where we were living at a ranch style shed called Powell. It was very basic but had air con, beds were basic, wood based, toilet and shower were basic but clean. My wife was in fits if laughter as I don’t do olde e world ee places, no tele no phones and very poor reception from mobiles, I really thought we had been time warped a 100 years, but I am here and I will go with it. Oh there were no streetlights either !! So over to the ranch reception place, had a coffee, or something cold. We were advised that we needed to go on the helicopter ride that afternoon as the wind was getting up, after being weighed and paperwork signed, we were off up to the helipad. My wife was very very nervous about the ride, the pilot understood this and I must admit he was fantastic and couldn’t do enough to reassure her, we both felt very safe and a nervous kind of excitement swept over us. After a chat we were off, the pilot I think was Johnny gave us the flight of our lives. The views were breathtaking I loved every minute, it was a pleasure to fly with the guy who was very knowledgeable although been at the ranch for 5 months, a big 11 out of 10 fella. We had dinner at the ranch, although the menu was limited in choice but the food was tasty and welcomed. After dinner off for a singsong around the fire, I thought it would be something out of the cub scouts kind of thing, but I was pleasantly surprised, Kaycee was a genuine gentleman of a cowboy, plenty of tales and a demon with his 12 string, made us feel very settled and somewhat valued. I have to mention this is a working ranch, so all the smells and dust really added character and made you feel part of it. The sunsets were amazing, you could see the bright stars and was reassured to lower those stress levels, moon made a appearance too, temps dropped right off in the evening which was welcomed. Next day we waited for coffee to be brewed at 0700 which was strong and black, we had booked the horse ride at sunset, so had a pancake breakfast, played cards, whatched jerry ride horses bareback from stable to ranch and wondered how the hell he stayed on, morning was a little slow, it was hot bright and very peaceful, we ate for dinner, steak and buffalo burgers were superb, I was bloody nervous bout riding the horse, first time, I’m a big lad 6-5 20 stone, the wife mentioned I don’t suppose the horse will be that happy either 😀 well the horse and I got on ok, he had the tendency to stop and eat of which I was supposed to kick and deter him from, but he was as tall as me and just kept plodding, the trek was bout 90 mins, I won’t lie my ass did ache for 3 days after, not much padding, I can’t imagine how the real cowboys rode them for hours every day. The trip was fun, bought me back to think life’s not so bad. Two days was bout enough for me, but we both enjoyed our stay, in fact it was quite romantic, and I don’t do romance !! Not wanting To leave on a negative but the drinks for me were a little overpriced but I’m told I’m a frugal man, sell them cheaper or do specials and people will buy more. That’s the only thing that narcked me. Otherwise a big thumbs up you great people. Xx Read less

It was very cold when we visited but the landscape was memorable and the Helicopter Flight down the Grand Canyon a lifetime memory. We were made very welcome during our stay and do get involved, particularly around the campfire each night. Read less

Great get away to just unplug and take in the beauty surrounding you no matter which direction you turn. Everything about our stay was priceless and perfect! The food was great! The atmosphere was so relaxing and fun. Everyone at the ranch was so welcoming! Erica and Lisa were so kind to get us checked in, assisted us with our daily plans and answered all of our questions! We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, conversations and camp fire with Cowboy Dave! Jerry and John were so fun, knowledgeable and pleasant with our horse / wagon rides. Mr. Dave took us to the shooting range where he was so patient and shared his shooting talents with our family. Tom with the helicopter tour was absolutely amazing! The views from the copter was breathtaking! The ride was perfect! We had the best experience. Highly recommend the ranch for anyone and everyone! Read less
