Kimpton Hotel Palomar Los Angeles

Beverly Hills, Los Angeles

The hotel

With an A-list address in Westwood, bordering Beverly Hills, the Palomar’s a microcosm of all that’s great in LA: the laid-back poolside living; the celeb-worthy design details; the new trend of sustainable cooking. Here you don’t just visit LA, you live it. Its sense of style infuses every space, but nowhere more so than at the pool, where an al fresco lounge features comfy cushioned seating and a fireplace. Double Take serves up unfussy, market-inspired snacks, salads and entrées that shine with Southern California ingredients. Bookending each day, the complimentary morning refreshments and evening wine hour remind you this is the land of indulgence; while the free 24-hour gym’s wall of windows looks out onto Wilshire Boulevard, so you don’t miss any sightseeing.

I am a fan of the Kimpton Brand and choose this hotel for that reason, hoping for the wonderful service, playful sometimes quirky style, and comfortable stay. And it was not awful just not up to visits at other Kimpton properties. First off, the restaurant was closed the day we arrived, tired and hungry. The complimentary happy hour was just that 5-6 pm, leaving me to purchase some very expensive canned cocktails and snacks from the bodega while we tried to work out what to do for dinner. A suggestion from the desk was to try Westwood Village - a 10 minute walk. After 20 minutes walking we didn't find anything open that interested us so we returned and tried Door Dash. We were were shorted one dinner so not enough food to go around. So what else was missing at the Palomar - in room coffee or tea. Had to schlep down to the lobby for a cup of tea and wait for the kettle to boil. All in all, not horrible just I've had better. Kudos to our car valet who helped us load the SUV and got me a lid for my tea. Read less

Kimpton Hotel Palomar is a great base to explore LA although it is not really located next to Beverly Hills but it is still located at a very convenient location within a walking distance to some nice cafes, In-n-Out burger, and a Wholefood supermarket. Staff here were friendly and efficient. They were happy to help you with everything and quick to recognise you (no need to confirm multiple times for a quick grab-and-go section which room I stayed in). The lobby was tastefully decorated and in fact more usable as a place where you sit and get serious work done for a few hours. Facilities: the business centre is definitely outdated but I mean, it wasn't really a big issue when most of us here have our own device and can work either in-room or the lobby. The gym was small but standard for hotels. Having access to a Peloton bike was a big plus. The internet was not amazing but fast enough for daily entertainment or catching up on work. Now, my biggest concern with the hotel even though it doesn't play a big part in my consideration of a great stay was the fact that the room feels very outdated when compared to the newer Kimptons I've been to. I stayed in the Spa Suite and could feel that I was transported a few decades back. Also COVID protocol did significantly impact my overall feelings and experience for this hotel: especially the lack of coffee machine in the room. The replacement of free communal coffee corner in the lobby is definitely not a good substitute in my opinion. Cleaning is also no longer daily but not unique to this hotel. Given the situation, I do not think the hotel should be penalised for this. Overall, a great stay. Would defiintely come back if rooms were refreshed and when COVID is over. Read less

The room is clean and modern. Stay on a higher floor and you have a sweeping view of the city. The bed and linens are so comfortable. The walls provide good sound insulation. Because of COVID, the mini bar is emptied and you have a mini fridge. Personally I hope it stays that way. There’s no coffee maker but you can request one. There’s coffee in the mornings in the lobby and wine reception in the evening. Room service is back for dinner. I wish they did a breakfast service. The staff are always so nice and professional. Michael at the front desk is very helpful. There is valet parking or self parking. You save around 10 bucks a night if you self park. Love the atmosphere here and will keep coming back. Read less

The hotel is more suited for business travelers but its location is great. You are close to the beach and Beverly Hills. Nice gym with all you need for a good workout. No more valet parking which is a positive for me. Food choices are limited and no close options to walk for food. The pool is lacking but is constrained the physical layout… Read more

I've needed a base in Los Angeles since business has started to open back up and I found the Palomar, thankfully. It is perfectly located, the rooms are great, the AC (one of my most important markers for a hotel) is excellent and the public spaces are really nicely done. It is a boutique hotel, but not one of those tiny cloying ones. The Palomar has heft to it. But it is the warm greeting I get every time I return that is the best part of the experience, because the staff truly makes me feel at home. In particular at the front desk is Claudia and Jennifer. They're just super on it and really fun conversation. There's an overall thoughtfulness to the hotel, both in design, amenities and staffing that goes above and beyond. Love it here! So does my dog!
