As a couple who is going through postponing our wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic, we could not be more disappointed and frustrated by the customer service (or lake thereof) we have received from the Fairmont. It has now been over one month since we've began the discussions about postponing and we still do not have anything finalized. It takes a minimum of one week to hear back from our (new) contact at the Fairmont, who is very rude when she does finally reply. After selecting a new wedding date, we received a new contract with several changes that were not discussed or reviewed with us before being sent over. An industry standard is to red-line the new changes instead of making us search through a 10+ page contract for the changes that were made. Speaking with other couples who are postponing, it is clear other beautiful southern California venues are more than accommodating during this difficult time. Seeing the Fairmont take advantage of the pandemic AND treating their customers who will pay tens of thousands for an event is very sad. Absolutely do not recommend throwing any events here or working with their catering/events staff. Read less

They do a very nice job on the In-Room Dining and the bar in the lobby always has a great buzz to it. This is the perfect spot for a weekend in Santa Monica---you drop off your car at the valet and do not pick it up until you drive home---you can walk almost any place you want. Stayed here four nights following the cancellation of our cruise whilst we were in the air. The staff were all very welcoming and went the extra yard to ensure we had everything we needed. We had a premium sea view room which had a wonderful view out over the beach up to Malibu. The room was well laid out with a wall size mirror beside the doors to the balcony making the sea view look twice as big and room light and airy. The room was well presented, modern and clean. There was plenty storage space, large flat screen TV, mini-bar, coffee maker which also made decent tea - a novelty in the US! The bathroom was strange in having 2 small doors to open it, but also had a night light. The bathroom was quite small but had everything you might need. The hotel also has a very popular restaurant The Fig, named after the huge fig tree in the grounds. The Fig also offers very popular half price meals between 5-6.00, a coffee shop, a bar ( which also sells food), a spa, gym heated pool and hot tub. One of the advantages of the hotel is its location being within walking distance of the beach, Sant Monica Pier, 3rd Street Mall, many restaurants and the the hop on-hop off bus. Id be happy to go back here! Read less

You can't beat the location of this hotel. It is right across the street from the beach, walking distance to the Santa Monica pier, and nearby many shops, bars and restaurants. We booked the deluxe king ocean view room with a small balcony. The room was very small. Bathroom doors could not be opened while closet doors across the hall were open- that's how narrow the hall was. The bathroom was also very tiny- no way two people could be in the bathroom at the same time. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was quiet- no street noise which was a plus. There are complimentary novels (one was a current bestseller) that you could take home with you on the bedside table which I thought was a very nice touch. Most of the staff we encountered were very pleasant. Negatives- hotel bar was the only place to eat beside the restaurant or the small coffee bar and the service was quite slow. The food was excellent but pricey. Gave the hotel only four stars because of the service we received from the valet after we checked out. We had left the hotel and were returning to collect our bags to take an Uber to the airport. The valet told us in order to bring the car back into the hotel he was going to charge us $57. We told him the car was being picked up and would only be parked for an hour. He refused to let us back in without paying the fee. We ended up having to park the car in a parking garage down the street and walk back to the hotel to pick up our bags. Not cool. Read less

I returned to the Fairmont once again to visit my son who lives in a Santa Monica. When making my reservation I called the hotel directly. My call to the front desk was answered by Gorkem who was sweet and knowledgeable and in a few minutes booked my room for me. When I arrived at the hotel she was on shift and remembered our conversation word for word and took care of all my “needy” requests, with patience and a smile. So now I’ve been here for a few days. I have most of my meals at the Fairmont lounge, inside or by the fountain, or at the Fig. The food is great but the service is better. Everyone is happy to accommodate my son and I with all our special requests. Lupe’s happy energy is infectious, Juanita is always so gracious and Antonia is sweet and patient, especially with my son who has a Herculean breakfast/brunch, early lunch, and is always “starving”. At the Fig at 5 (Santa Monica’s best food And drink) for half the price 5-6pm I’m greeted by Emily, at the bar, who seriously, not only, remembers my name but also that I prefer the Gruner. The Fig also serves Breakfast and if you are alone you can have it at the bar with good conversation and a smile from Olya. There are many wonderful hotels all around the world but the consistent great service and kind, professional attitude that I find at the Fairmont cannot be beat. Thank you ladies for always making be happy to be here. Read less
