Riu Plaza Fishermans Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

The hotel

Just a pleasant stroll from the shops and entertainment at Pier 39, and the ferry to Alcatraz, the Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf makes a stellar base to explore from. Recently modernised, the hotel’s relaxed and friendly vibe is ideal after a day’s dim sum dining, cable car riding and selfie snapping. Your room is suitably airy and comfortable, you can kick back on the sun terrace by the outdoor heated pool, and, perhaps our favourite part, you can hangout by a crackling fire pit in the outdoor living area.

Room recently remodeled and nice compared to other similar hotels. But the price was incredibly high for the value received. I paid over $450.00 per night. The breakfast included was nice. Additionally upon check in I was hit with another $50.00 "fee". Check in was very slow. There were only two people in front of me and two representatives on… Read more

Pros: 1. Great Location 2. Comfy beds / room. Great light-blocking blings. 3. Excellent water pressure in shower Cons: 1. Check-in is a mess. We waited in line for 20 min, then had to give ID’s for all adults and names and birthdates for all children to get everyone “registered”. The whole process for two rooms took another 10 min. The receptionist sympathized about the time it took (they don’t like it either) but apparently it’s the process they adopted from the parent company in Spain. It’s a pain. My advice: grab a drink from the bar first if the line is long and your nerves are short. 2. Street noise. Door to the hallway in our 3rd-story room was well insulated, but I woke to music and lots of drunken jabber around the 2am bar-time, and again to a street fight between two men at 6:30 (one had it coming, apparently, shouldn’t have used the “n-word”.) Advice: white noise machine? Nothing but prayers will save you from a street fight though, should you be so lucky as to witness one during your stay. Read less

Our flight got in 6 in the morning and we got to the hotel by 8, and our check-in time was not until 3 in the afternoon. The receptionist was so understanding, before we even asked if it was a possibility, she already looked up rooms available for us, and even upgraded it from a queen to a king bed! The place was nice, clean and comfortable. It… Read more

We stayed here on New Year’s Eve with another family. The hotel is going through a transition from Sheraton to Riu so staff is getting used to new systems. Check was a bit long but luckily we arrived around 3pm and line wasn’t too bad. The hotel is just a block from Fisherman’s Wharf and a 9 min walk to Pier 39. It was such a great deal. We… Read more
We stayed here on New Year’s Eve with another family. We paid $209 on Nee Years Eve and it included a full hot breakfast buffet. Don’t know where you can find a better deal than that. The staff is all very helpful especially Bash at check-in and the Hotel Manager who was working hard thanking people for their patience and handing out waters to those in line. We will definitely come back for another stay. Read less
