Hotel Triton

Union Square, San Francisco

The hotel

As chic as it is bohemian, Triton is one of the trendiest hotels in San Francisco. With a style all of its own, including suites designed by celebrities and art exhibits often hosted by the artists themselves, it’s one of those hotels you’re proud to ‘drop into conversation’ when you get home. The Triton team say it’s like staying with a fashionable friend who lives right by Union Square and Chinatown. With a Bag Butler to pick up your shopping from Union Square’s boutiques, an organic snack bar in your room, in-room spa treatments, and a wine social hour each evening, we think it’s probably better.

Based directly opposite China Town it’s as close to the action as you can get. However, despite its gorgeous modern bohemian interior I found it to be lacking in a few ways: 1. Rooms are compact, bathrooms are tiny with limited space to move in 2. Depending on which room you get the windows aren’t double glazed so it can get extremely noisy in the early mornings/evenings. 3. There aren’t any coffee or tea making facilities in the rooms. This is acutely felt when waking up at 4am due to jet lag. 4. The gym is tiny which can be awkward when there’s three of you in there. Otherwise friendly staff, nice big bed, and conveniently located. Read less

I couldn't find anything for this price. So that was great for that time. Location was extremely convenient and relatively pleasant and safe location in front of the Chinatown Gate at the end of Union Square. I couldn't find anything for this price. So that was great for that time. Location was extremely convenient and relatively pleasant and safe location in front of the Chinatown Gate at the end of Union Square. The room was small and wasn't expecting that, so that was a surprise. But it was only me and I only was staying 2 nights. If I was staying any longer this hotel wouldn't of been my first choice. The bed was very comfortable and it was a full size bed. The room couldn't really fit anything else inside of it. The shower was ok, however the water pressure from the sink tap is extremely low not at all good from shaving. There isn't really any room to work on your laptop. Overall the room was clean and the staff are friendly. Not in a rush to stay there again. Read less

For the price, you can't beat the convenient and relatively pleasant and safe location in front of the Chinatown Gate at the end of Union Square. The room are small (my was so small it only fit a full size bed) the building is old, and even though the hotel was renovated a year ago, the heating & cooling system is still old. You can control the temperature in your room with the window heating/cooling unit above your bed, but it is very loud when it comes on, which would be very annoying except it doubles as a white noise machine to drown out the loud street noise and pipe banging noise in the bathroom so you can sleep. Shower only - no bathtub, and the flower of the shower had cracks in it. On the up side, my room was clean and the bed is comfortable. The location is much better than the "Union Square" area below the Tenderloin and around Market st. The $30 "urban amenity" fee is ridiculous considering the small hotel really doesn't have any amenities, but hey that's why it's not $37-$50 charged by other downtown SF hotels. Good enough for 1 person for 1 night. Read less

The Hotel Triton is my favourite hotel in the city. Great accommodation, great ambience, great location and wonderful welcoming staff. I have always felt at home here and really well looked after. My 'go to' place in SF every time

The room was very clean and comfortable. It was warm and I had a view of the street. There was never a noise issue even when rush hour started. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of room to store away your clothes and belongings. I also had the chance to check out the gym. This is a small room with only one treadmill and two elliptical machines. There were free weights and a cable machine. It was adequate but if you and another gym bunny go at the same time there could be a queue. BUT don't let this put you off this quaint hotel. Whilst this was a working visit, so no time for real sightseeing, it was conveniently situated with great bars and restaurants close by and China Town on the doorstep. I would recommend and happily stay again. Thanks for having me Triton. Read less
